just like what the other review said, this stereo system is great!! you just need to clean the laser (lens) in the cds with a can of compressed air. the sound quality is beyond excellent, full of clarity and super heavy bass if you turn on the t-bass to max. all of you people who rated this product as bad, you should just shut up and ACTUALLY LISTEN TO THE SOUND before you say anything.

i bought this stereo second-handed from an unknown discounted dealer, and it's still working great.

Yard sale find. CD didn't work. Apparently it gets dirty, 5 screws, can of compressed air, and in less than 5 minutes it worked. Spray the laser w/ compressed air. Us anony types always have plenty of cans of air laying around. Come on people. Didn't any of you ever fix a PS2? Seriously? Are people really that stupid? This thing sounds amazing. One guy based the sound of tapes. You use tapes??? And your complaining about sound? sheesh. Its not a bose. But honestly, Ive heard Bose systems that didn't sound this good. I was testing it with a Reba CD that I found, and I don't even like Reba! I don't like Country at all! I bet it sounds mean w/some Tool.
Ive sold full sized Onkyo units that didn't sound this good.

Strength:

You can't beat the price of my unit. And it's easy to repair if you have an idea what's wrong with it.

I see people are having trouble with the cd player. This might help.

Last weekend I found my nsx-v9000 unit and all the speakers in the neighbor's trash can. I decided to take it out and give it a try. The am/fm tuner works fine. One of the cassette doors won't close and I don't care. The cd player was the problem. It wouldn't play. But it would accept discs, change them, and spin them. If yours will do at least this much, it's a good sign. Here's what I did to fix my cd unit. It might be all that's wrong with yours if you have the same symptoms.

1. Open the cd tray so that it's in the out position that would allow you to place discs in the tray.

2. UNPLUG THE POWER CORD. REPEAT. UNPLUG THE POWER CORD.

3. Take the cover off of the unit. All it takes is a phillips screwdriver. There are two small screws in each side of the unit and about five or 6 small screws on the back. This is all it takes to slide the metal cover off of the unit.

4. Take off the clear plastic light diffuser. On the top of the cd player there is a clear plastic light diffuser. All it does is reflect light from the little lights inside the unit to make it look pretty. There are two screws that hold it in place.

5. Clean the lens on the cd player. Under the light diffuser you just removed you should see what looks like it might be a small lens. It is looking in the "up" direction. It is about the same diameter as a typical button that might be on your shirt. This is the lens for the light beam that gets shined onto the disc to reflect the information on the disc back into the internal electronics. I simply used my pinky finger to GENTLY wipe the dust off of the lens. But some people will tell you to use lens paper or a q-tip and some alcohol. My pinky finger worked just fine.

6. Put the light diffuser and the cover back on and give it a try. Hopefully it will work for you.

What happens is that dust collects on the lens because it's looking up and is horizontal. When enough dust gets on the lens, it interferes with the cd player's ability to "see" the information coming off of the disc. Good Luck. DON'T FORGET STEP 2.

Strength:

Power, clarity.

Weakness:

cd player, which at the time of purchase was a pretty big deal

Like the other reviews, my cd player quit working after a year or two. Other than that, I love the unit. Plenty of power and clarity for a small system. I use the unit now strictly for my computer

Strength:

The sound is pretty good but that is about it

Weakness:

Everything but the sound!!

I too have an Aiwa NSX-V9000, and I was basically shocked when I read the reviews about it. I have had the system for awhile because I have been too lazy to buy another one. But soon after I got it the CD player stopped recoginizing and playing my cd's. Then like a month later the darn thing ate a tape as well and now neither tape deck will work and it makes a funny clicking sound when I turn it on. The only reason I still have it is because the radio still works!!

none, I buy other brands now

Strength:

-Great amount of power for a mini system -Lots of inputs and outputs for option

Weakness:

CD Player

The Aiwa NSX-V9000 was the best cd player i had ever had for about a year and a half until the cd player stopped working...We took it to a "Authorized Repair Center" and they fixed it. The problem was the laser lense's orientation or something like that...About a month later it stopped working again...So i bought a cd player unit and plugged it up to it cuz the tuner and tape player still worked...But then after i bumped into it really hard the volume knob doesn't light up and no sound comes out...So i bought a Aiwa NSX-D22 Digital audio system, and it works fine...HOPEFULLY

Strength:

Good and powerful sound.

Weakness:

CD player is AWFUL. Poor customer service when I inquired about replacement or refund. Wasted time and effort getting the thing repaired.

Worked well for a while. Cd player then stopped working. Took it for repair, worked for a while....then did not. Had it repaired no less than 5 times under my extended warranty. Stopped trying to get it fixed. Bought separate CD player to use with system. I still use it because the sound is good and powerful. Both the place of purchase and the company, AIWA were very neglect on even offering a replacement or compensation. I received a letter from AIWA stating there is a problem with this model....REALLY???? And they would send out a free repair note. Why would I want to repair again? Besides...that was more than a year ago, and I haven't heard a thing! I will never buy an AIWA product again! Why I bought this when everything else I own is JVC, I dunno. Besides, the tape deck lasted a bit longer before it didn't work. My new system will NOT be AIWA for sure! I would have been happy with 5 years of use. The CD player got me about 6 months if that.
