This product was a complete waste of money. Less than a year after my purchase, the CD player started skipping. It was repaired under warranty, but six months later it started skipping again. This time the repair cost me over $100. Six months later same problem, except that when I took it in for repair, it wouldn't skip. Soon as I brought it home, however, same thing. Right now the player is worthless, and I'm in the market for a new system. Needless to say, it won't be an AIWA.

Strength:

Besides the obvious (the CD player) the thing has taken a beating but still works

Weakness:

Cd player sucks

Well, its lasted me a good 4 years now and for a small system it worked great in the dorm and apartments. The problem as others have said, is the cd player. It lasted longer than most here, about 2.5 years from '97 to '00. The cd player stopped playing then after a sporadic 9-12 months of skipping/not playing certain tracks on a disc etc. Its just not worth the repair bill. Which is a shame as the tape deck and tuner still run great and its decent when running tv audio through it. Just buyer beware with Aiwa products. So much for their reputation.

Strength:

Good power, stylish look.

Weakness:

The product broke down very easily.
Very limited equalizer.

I bought this product thinking it was about as high end as i needed to go at the time. The remote worked everything, and I was very happy only having a 3-disk tray.

The part that annoyed me the most about the system was the fact the headphone jack wore out. I listen to headphones a lot, and after a while the hookup loosened to the point where the system couldn't differentiate between speakers and headphones, and thus no sound came out. It had to be adjusted to work again.

The cd player started to have problems after about a year. Initially it couldn't read the cd's for a second or two... then a few seconds... later it took a short while to start a song, if it started at all.

A strength would be the fact that once a cd was playing, the sound was very clear, and in times when the cd was working efficiently, it was very easy to use.

I must say my tape deck did have problems. I was forced to destroy one of the tape decks in an effort to recover a tape it decided to chew... therefore, down to tapedeck 2 only. good thing i only listen to cd's. wait, it's not reading cd's today...

and to be honest, the radio didn't pick up some stations very well. it was a quick search, and the presets were easy to make, and easy to use.

I have owned this radio for almost 5 years, and when the system was in working condition, it was great. however, i've had to fix the cd player and headphone jack. and in fact, the problem did return.

finally, i think the equalizer was weak. compared to a good jvc model, the JVC MX-D602T, the jvc had much better controls for sound quality. the aiwa did not have a good variety of options. i can say i know first hand about both models mentioned, becaue my current roommate has one, and he's had it for years.

anyways, i would have preferred the jvc.

Strength:

1)It breaks very easily when hit with a 16 ounce framing hammer.
2)It doesn't take up much room in the trash can.

Weakness:

CD player and tape decks along with whoever designed, assembled and did the quality control for these units.

I purchased this piece of s*** thinkingthat AIWA was a leader in the consumer electronics field. The CD player stopped working shortly after purchasing it. Several trips back and forth to my local *authorized* repair service only helped the problem for short intervals. The cassette tape deck went out shortly after the CD player did, leaving me only with a AM/FM radio. I was tempted to donate it to the Salavation Army but figured that those people had suffered enough, so I simply threw it away. No more AIWA products for me......ever.

Nothing can compare to the NSX-V9000, simply the worst!

Weakness:

CD player is horrible!

Same problem as other reviewers with the CD player - the unit began malfunctioing within 6 months. It either skipped, failed to recognize CD, shut down. I have brought it for service twice - each time it worked for one to two weeks, then back to the same malfunction. Tis system was a total and complete waste of money!

I bought my system on july 1997. At firts it sounded great, I mean great. It has surround system and worked liked a home theater. It also recorded pretty good, AT FIRST. Months later, the sound specially when I recorded wasn´t as good as before. Also a few months ago some part of tape deck A broke suddenly, I was playing a tape and it got stuck, I tried to take it out and I did but that deck is no longer working. I´ve been trying to find out what to do, trying to get technical info or service manual directly from AIWA customer service dept. and I´ve had no luck at all. I´ve called several times with different reps and no one´s been able to help me so far. If any of you have any information on this product or knows how to get it, please let me know by mailing me at:lurdesg@yahoo.com

Holy volume Batman! The knob goes from 7 o'clock to 5 o'clock. I've never had it past 12, and at that level I thought my ears would start to bleed. Invest in a subwoofer and you've got a SOLID system for an apartment dweller (enough to get evicted if you don't know your neighbors). I won't try to tell you how wonderful it sounds, because it doesn't. It plays the music though, and would be a great dorm system for any college.
My main complaint is with the 3 Disc changer. It frequently has problems reading one or more of the discs, forcing you to jiggle the platter and/or relocate the disc.

One feature that I would not do without in a low end system such as this is the BBE circuitry. It clarifies the high and low end and is adjustable to different levels. I have BBE on my Alpine CD player in my car, and it is truly wonderful, especially for FM radio. Makes it sound more like a CD!

All in all, an excellent value for the college-bound set.

Hello mini-system fans. I have been interested in home theater since 1992, when I hooked my hi-fi vcr up to a portable boom box(this thing barely cranked out 2 watts per channel. Fast forward to fall October of 1997, when I purchased a refurbished Aiwa NSX-V9000. I had seen this unit going for 399.99 brand new. So, when I encountered it on sale for 249.99, I could not pass it up. By it being a refurbished unit, I figured I would protect my investment, by purchasing an extended warrenty. I wound up returning and exhanging the model 3 times that day. Eventually, I found an acceptable unit. I have since upgraded by replacing the stock main speakers with high power KLH bookshelf speakers and by adding a 120 watt powered sub-woofer. Now I receive respectable sound reproduction from all sources. The surround sound is near Pro-logic quality and I experience virtual movie theater sensations when watching television. COMPLAINTS: significant background hissing, inferior dubbing capabilities, and CD player occasionally does not recognize when a CD is present. For the budget minded, this model is good as a home theater starter, but expect the sound distortion to increase as the volume increases.

i bought my stereo almost 2 years ago. works great except for one thing. the cd's tend to skip. have had it serviced twice to repair. i was told it was due to dust. well, it still skips but since 2nd service i have been using a plastic cover that came with my monitor. i think i'm getting taken on the service end.

I received it as a gift, and it's been a great system for my dorm room. I added a subwoofer from my friend's system, and it made the sound so much better. I have had problems with the CD player - it won't play certain brands of CD's, and at one point it decided not to recognize that any CD's were present and remain shut. That was fixed by a reset, after I got in touch with the AIWA Customer Service, who were very helpful. There does seem to be some distortion when I crank the T-Bass, which gets pretty bad at high volumes. I can turn it off with the sub, though. The BBE totally kicks ass, clarifying the upper range beautifully.
