Strength:

this is the most crystal clear sound system you can buy at this price period. for clear accurate sound there is no equal, and i know because i have an excellent ear for fine music.

Weakness:

none really, because for the size and price there is nothing equal in sound quality period.

i basically want to tell people who want the absolute best quality sound for their money , to buy the bose acoustic wave system, the reason is simple , for the size and money, nothing comes close to reproducing clear realistic sound period. a person can spend thousands and thousands of dollars thats a given, but if you can only spend 1000 dollars and not a penny more, then nothing can touch this system, period.

Strength:

Very natural sound, easy to setup

Weakness:

Lacking in the deepest bass, below 50hz or so.

First off I must say I am rather amused at the Bose bashers. I can only assume they have never heard live instrumental music, or, just can't afford a Bose so they bash the entire line. I would even go so far as to say that some of these negative and profane comments are from people that don't even have one or even heard one. Frankly, I pay them "no mind". That being said...

I started off with both an 88 and a Wave Radio CD. Yes, both. I just had to try them both and since I could return either I had nothing to lose. Well, I returned the 88 CD. I found it very good but too boomy and mushy in the mid to low end. Male voices were heavy and un-natural. The Wave Radio CD was clean, clear and most importantly - musical. I relegated it to my den/computer room when my AcousticWave arrived.

The AcousticWave ($899 for a factory renewed unit) is simply a delight. I am both amazed and amused at those folks who say it is boomy. Nothing could be farther from the truth. The sound on classical, orchestral and pipe organ music is stunning. Both male and female vocals are smooth yet crisp and natural. Male voices, both singing and spoken, are very natural without the heaviness found on the 88 CD and typical compact boom-box systems. Imaging and clarity are very good to excellent. Acoustic guitar solo's are stunning and "oh-so real sounding"!!!

If you want a "musical experience" at a reasonable price, look no further. The AcousticWave CD represents outstanding musical performance at a fair price, as does its smaller sibling.

Strength:

Extraordinary acoustic responsiveness in every range

Weakness:

Exaggerates the cacaphonous elments of "cretin music" -- rock, hip hop, etc. Should only be used for jazz and classical.

The Bose really is an amazing accomplishment in audio engineering. I play violin in a string quartet and have owned high-end audio equipment since the old (original) KLH days 40 year ago. The Bose is the best small system I could imagine -- the equal of many larger separate-component systems that cost 4-5 times as much. I've been consistently bemused by the "Bose bashers" who seem driven by some mysterious animus towards the system. My guess is that they are mainly people who have grown up listening to "cretin music" -- rock, hip hop, etc -- the studio values of which are determined by "car radio playability." They have, in effect, never heard real music. But for their sort of music any Walmart-purchased boombox is just as good, and a high-end system, no matter how expensive, will only be functioning -- in relation to the "music" played on it -- as a larger boombox. I would imagine that for people used to listening to rock and hip hop the Bose DOES lack what they've grown used to thinking of as sound fidelity -- the ability to reproduce a moronic "bass thump," the mindlessness of incorporated feedback, etc. But for real music, the Bose is unmatchable. For the last two hours I've been playing the Duo Gemniani set of Bach sonatas for Violin and Harpsichord (Musical Heritage Society)on my Bose, and the superb quality of the sound here in my study has never once made me want to go upstairs to the "good" component system in my upstairs library -- which does have far better acoustic values, but which also cost $7000 -- to "really" hear something I've been listening to on the Bose. For the quality, the Bose does not strike me as being in the least overpriced. It is a wonderful system for young people and for any serious music listener who wants superb sound quality in a room-size space.

Strength:

none

Weakness:

everything, its sounds like crap, looks like crap, cd player sucks, no power at all.

what a joke, $1200 big ones, for somthing that a $150 shelf system would blow away. only people who don't no what sound is would buy a bose product, they suck without a doubt.
I recently put a system together for around $1300, and it blows bose away, more bass, more sound clarity, VERY MUCH LOUDER, i can turn my technics reciever (SA-AX7) up to about 10 o'clock or less(into cheap 15inch Jensen's), and its much louder and much clearer, then the bose "Wavecrap"

Strength:

Small, good for baseball games on the radio

Weakness:

grossly overpriced

My Sister bought one of these little radios the other day. She begged me to come over to hear it. I would have to say that the Bose Acoustic wave system is on par with other mini systems costing about three times less. The sound was clear, yet it lacked the highest of highs and the lowest of lows. This system will not crank out the music like Bose says it will. For the price you can do a lot better. It puts out a fair amount of bass, I liken it to a average 6x9" speaker in your car in terms of frequency response. It will fill a room with sound, so long as the room is the size of a small bathroom. My brother in law thinks that the sound is good, but he said that my system blows everything away except this new Bose system. I find it laughable that for the price of a decent set up, Bose sells you this tiny peice of junk. I have a Harman Kardon amp/pre amp set up, with a Rotel Cd player and Polk Rt600's and it does cost ,more than the Bose set up, but the sound is on an another level. They seem to be taken in by the Lure of Bose and their false promises. I told my sister to take it back to the outlet store and then go out and buy a real set up. I hope she listens to me....

Strength:

Sounds great consisering it's a clock radio...

Weakness:

Sounds horrible considering it's $1000...

Finally got a chance to hear this plastic-not-so-fantastic. Well, like I said, it's good for a clock radio, but the price is obcene. One would be MUCH better off buying the Mission/Denon mini-system at half the price (circa $500). Real wood finish on the speakers, real binding posts and can be seperated. Reviewed by Stereophile about a year ago.Check the "archives" section. Bose has always had good ideas and chooses to employ cheap materials. (Check out the actual drivers within the speaker cabinets! LOL!)
