Strength:

easy to use, a lot power.

Weakness:

no surround sound, so can not make a real home theater system.

very good receiver with excellent speakers, great and pure sound, good for a mid-size room. I plan to put a subwoofer with the system, could you give some suggestions about it.

Strength:

nice small footing,

Weakness:

none detected

this is the system to get if looking for a mini system,
excellent mission speakers...
did not order the tape deck, since i discarded all of my tape and replaced it with CD's...
the mechanics of the CD changer is a bit loud,
take too long for my distance to power ON but nanosecond to power OFF.

Strength:

Small size and good looks

Weakness:

On the large side for a mini system, I am concerned about the noise made by the CD changer when it shuttles the CDs between drawers.

I have this system connected to Paradigm Mini Monitors and the sound is superb. I had listened to systems up to approx $3000 (Cdn) and this system is comparable. I paid $996 (Cdn) for the amp/tuner, CD player and speakers.

The remote for the unit is well laid out and functions well. The "two tier" system on the remote I find works well, with the commonly used functions readily accessible and full functions accessible when needed.

Overall I am very impressed with this system, although I do find that the speakers need to be placed away from the wall for maximum benefit (see reviews on the Paradigm Mini Monitor). I am using this system in my home office that is approx 10' x 14' and I find that there is ample power to fill the space.

I would recommend this system to anyone who is looking for a mid-priced higher end two channel audio system.

Strength:

Excellent sound for the price. I could not find anything comparable for under $1000 with the same size and style.

Weakness:

The CD player is loud when shuffling... and I have had to return 2 CD players due to malfunction. Even with the problems I am having, I am not going to switch.

For a small/medium apartment or a bedroom/office system, this is perfect. The sound quality is excellent to my ears with the Mission speakers. It is easy to operate and program. My only complaint is the quality issue... make sure to buy it from someone who is close and can take care of you if you have a problem (I didn't... bought over the net... bad choice).

Strength:

clear, distinct and solid sound in all frequencies, low price for the quality of construction, plenty of features, room for expansion, lots of power available

Weakness:

no pause on the remote, cd changer is a bit loud, ho hum cd-tuner/amp cables, but thats about it

I would have to say that this has been the best 1600 dollers (cnd) I have ever spent. I, however, didnt get quite the same system as is usually packaged. I opted for just the tuner/amp and the CD changer, no tapedeck or mission speakers. (I never use tapes anyways, and I found speakers which I consider to be of higher quality and sound.)

The speakers I purchased were Paradigm Titans and I matched them with a PDR-8 sub, this setup is ample for any bedroom. However, I intend to upgrade to the Paradigm Monitor 3 and PDR-12 to satisfy my love for Hard Rock and Electronica. But for my Jazz and classical, the Titans and PDR-8 are superb. The D-M10 provides more than enough power and signal quality to make the most of these speakers, provided they are connected with high quality cables. This brings me to one of the only faults in the stereo, it is shipped with "plain-jane" stainless RCA cables. I HIGHLY recommend for the audio enthusiast to replace these with cables matching or surpassing the Monster 400MKII cables I purchased (99 CDN + tax). It is quite obvious (to myself at least) how much better the system sounds with these cables, the bass is noticably tighter, the treble is matched to the mid/bass almost perfectly (instead of slightly ahead), and the overall sound is clearer and more defined. (note: it is also very important to have high quality, shielded speaker cables, as this greatly effects sound quality)

One of my favourite things about this stereo is that the sound reproduction of what the masters (original copy of any CD) were mixed to sound like. This means that after initially matching the sub to the speakers (volume and cutoff frequency), I simply leave the treble and bass knobs on equal. Neither requires additional or less amplification, ever. The sound is always balanced as it should be.

All in all, I am very pleased with this system, its minor faults are more than made up for with its high quality (components and sound) and ample power, as well as the number of features and upgrades available. I would highly recommend this to any aspiring audiophile on a budget who wants to fill his/her small to medium sized room with surprisingly full stereo sound.

Strength:

Brand, clear sound, rigid design

Weakness:

It has preset eqs only!

Hey guys, will anyone explain me why this toy has preset eqs only??? I was about to buy it from The Wiz today and they already were ready to give me a pritty good deal because I was planning to by a TV and a VCR too... But just before I was ready to give them money I realized that it has preset "Classic", " Rock" and "Pop" only! I left the store in a terrible mood and the rest of the day was spoiled. Hey, a $999 for a system which has only three eqs?! I admit that I most likely would be fine with those, but... Still!
Bummer!

A great system. I have it paired with the mission 731i speakers that it came with. These speakers are a great match. See my XLO er-11 speaker cables review for more details.

Strength:

Cheap, finish is extremely good, more than enough features to satisfy me like VCD, Karaoke, Tuner with Sleep function

Weakness:

The 3 CD changer can jam pretty easily.

If you are the casual listener, this is one to avoid!
You are probably more happy with Sony, Aiwa, Pioneer stuff.
Denon is *tuned differently*. Don't expect big bassy like
what you hear in the competition.

If you enjoy the mid and high and a more complete range of sound, this is one hi-fi system you will enjoy.
The bass is there but is really very faint.

I have pair it with KEF Cresta 2 and Mercury M2 and found only marginal improvement. The Mercury IMO is a better match compared to the Cresta 2. Cresta 2 tends to sound a bit sharp. Not that Mercury is perfect as Mercury M2's already loose bass isn't very well control by the Denon, despite being rated at 40W.

Strength:

Mission speakers, design, clean power, upgradeable, subwoofer output.

Weakness:

No pause on remote, not a surround sound receiver.

Let me start off by saying, YOU WILL NOT FIND A BETTER PACKAGED SYSTEM FOR UNDER 1K, not even close!! There seems to be two models out there one which has the pre-set equilizer on the receiver and one which has a seperate control nob for tremble and one for bass- no presets, of which is the one that I own! The pre-set EQ model I believe is the model which was being sold over seas in Japen and branching out from there. This system is also sold WITHOUT the Mission speakers in some parts of the world which may explain for some of the lower rated reviews on this site.

Now, that being said, what makes this system absolutely incredible is the Mission speakers which deliver high resolution throughout the frequency scale. They get down to 70hz, which for bookshelf speakers is a bonus- giving a solid, "full" sounding lower end. As far as the system itself, Denon is very high quality. The receiver, although small in size, gives out plenty of power filling my 25' x 15' room easily! They 3 tray cd player gives you all the play back options that are available or you need and the tape deck is easy to operate, although I rarely do. Spending time on speaker placement will bring you a true 3d quality to the soundstage so time spent in this area will reward you.

*If you're interested in this system, I want to emphasize how important it is to have the Mission 731i's paired along-it will make all the difference in the world! For those of you reading this who may happen to already own the D-M10 do not count out the importance of good quality interconnects that will make you realize the full potential out of any quality system. I have listened to many stereo's out there, tied in component systems costing double and even triple that of this sytem and the D-M10's flame burns as bright if not brighter because this system was engineered as a truely cohesive unit. To audiophiles one thing that may be lacking with this unit is the speakers inability to reach the "frequency extremes". But to 99.9% of the public this is a none issue! The sound I have achieved with the D-M10 is breathtaking!!! (If your wondering, I have absolutely no affiliation with Denon or any other audio co. I just thought it was time I share my complete satisfaction w/the masses)

Strength:

Great Sound and clarity one of the best sounding stereos on the market.

Weakness:

none

This is a system for someone who demands sound quality. The denon system is very well laid out and is compact. The system has great mission spakers which can get as loud and clear as any speaker out there. The mission speakers are the best speakers out there on the market today. This is the best sound you can get on the market it is even beter than custom systems which are big and ugly. Buy this system and you will be the king of all audio equipment.
