Strength:
Well balanced sound; Compact; Good remote range; MD is great for recording radio/tape; clock and alarm.
Weakness:
At high levels speakers can vibrate; CD to MD not great; Split level on-board controls (Note: this review is for JVC UD-V9MD, Aust version) This is a great little system. If you want something compact (it's not wide, nor deep), and sounds okay with a good set ot features, this system is perfect. Speakers are a nice size, with well rounded style. Not too boomy, and not to bright. It can go fairly loud, but and cabinets start to vibrate a little, so mild levels are what it handles best. The mid-driver is only 8cm so don't expect earth moving bass, but being a proper bass reflex design, it makes low enough sounds without sounding like there is something missing. Imaging is okay, but nothing audiophile. Display is extremely bright, but luckly it has two brightness settings. Remote is not well laid out, but main controls can be done by feel. Remote has very good range. In my 3m x 4m room, I can aim the remote anywhere and the system responds. MD is great, but format works best when coming up from a lower quality source than it. In those cases it perfectly captures the sound. From CD to MD you can hear the algorithms clipping, and while being okay, it can be tiring for decernable listening.
