Strength:

Visually stunning, compact size.

Weakness:

Distortion at higher volumes.

My reason for purchasing the SS 8 was simple. I have a nice apartment, and I don't need a stereo system that will rattle my neighbors windows. I wanted a nice, compact mini-system. The SS 8 is perfect for someone who wants a little stereo that sounds good, and looks great. There is some distortion in the bass when music is played at high levels, but like I said, I don't need an extremely loud stereo with earth shaking bass. The SS8 still sounds wonderful at somewhat high levels, and I can turn it up plenty loud enough for a party, without reaching the level where it distorts. I am more than happy with this system, and it looks amazing hanging on my wall. It might seem crazy to pay a lot for a stereo that looks good, but hey, it's my money, and I'd do it again.

Strength:

Excellent sound stage with rich deep bass

Weakness:

The mid-range can be a little bit muddy with certain types of music

I bought this system for my apartment a few months ago.Having been lured
by Nakamichi's excellent reputation for quality tape decks I have not been
disappointed by this system one bit. It's elegant looks and compact size
dovetail nicely with its fine sound.I did however buy some better speaker
cables as I did notice when playing certain types of music a small amount
of distortion in the mid-range,and it seems to have done the trick.I've also noticed that for my ears it is usually necesary to tweek the dials to get the right balance for that particular
cd.I would recommend this system to anyone who lives in an apartment or small space
as it's ideal.

Strength:

Being on the process to buy an entire sound system intended for music listening only i decided to give a try to the Nakamichi SoundSpace 8 at a hifi store near me. The fact that this high end shop was selling this system somehow impressed me; I thought that it would be superior to what one usually expect from a mini system. Beside, the system look very good (at least compared to an average mini-system).

Weakness:

However, listening to this thing wasn't a good experience at all. First of all, this system is way too boomy, the sub deliver bass were there should not have some! I always use the very sames cd's when testing a new system and I listened to a variety of different setup (some very high end, some affordables) I thing that I know how my cd's should sound! Also, the sub isn't very refined and seem to induce some distorsion. As for the high, they aren't espcially clear, nor impressive.

Listening to this system just convinced me that I should stick to separates. One can get so much more music from a system on the same price range by buying separates; there is simply no comparison.

This Nakamichi may be a valuable buy if you really care about look and features. That being said, I feel that i am way more serious about music than that. I prefer to go with true quality rather than superficials features.

Giving a really bad rating to this system wouldn't be fair considering that this system is certainly better than average mini systems. However, i don't wan't to give a good rating to this system since it doesn't sound any hifi. This thing totaly overpriced comparatively to separates.

Strength:

imaging is very good, for the tiny size is incredible

Weakness:

clarity could be better

I am amazed at the soundstage these speakers give for the size. However, Radio could be better and the speakers have slight distortion. Also, the subwoofer is very different, not bad but different. Overall, a great system.

I am hearing a lot of air from the speakers. I have to turn the volume up a lot, but it doesn't sound clear. Any ideas to what might be causing this? Anyone else with a Soundspace 8 experienceing this? Please e-mail me at johnblaze77@hotmail.com. Thanks

Upon entering my usual stereo haunt, I found some of the technicians setting up one of the listening rooms. Normally, these rooms are filled to the brim with NAD and McIntosh equipment, so I wasn't surprised by the overwhelming clarity and force of the Buddy Guy cd playing.
I was shocked to find them all sitting on the floor, listening to the Nakamichi SoundSpace 8. No set up time here, just hang on the wall and play with the (admittedly small) satelites. Visually, this piece is a knockout!

Soundwise, the clarity and soundstage were very good, with some slight distortion during fast upper transitions and high guitar work, but the spatial imaging of the set up was indeed remarkable.

Cons would only include the price/value ratio - You are paying for the gizmos and high style too. Also, I have no information about the longevity of the MusicBank cd mechanism, and the transport seems to be the cause of some sonic distortion.

Strength:

Great separates. Awesome sound, quite diffrent from my Yamaha Mini System. Not as eye catching as the sound space 5. Sub is very unique, not capable of playing 2 pac, Snopp Dogg, or any other rap. But by the time I bought it, I wasn't listening to any of those songs :).

Weakness:

Distortion, might be the cause of cheap wires that came with the bundle. Distortion comes in at any (+) (-) levels in: base, mid, treb.

Great system. After 5 years with your Yamaha/Aiwa min- systems, the sound space 8 takes some getting use to. All my cd's sound diffrent. Some distortion can be fixed by higher quality wires. Burn CD-R's would cause some distortion at Volumes lower that 3; to solve this: Buy real CD's! :)
