This system has lasted me a very long time. It has been my main stereo through junior college and music college. Oftentimes it would be used as the main entertainment stereo for either myself or for my apartment with roommates. It has endured an apartment fire, several moves to different apartments and is STILL my main stereo. After about 13 years, the main cones in the speakers tore due to dry rot which comes off as normal. They were replaced for about 50-100 dollars a piece. Now, I recently added a subwoofer to the system and it fills my room with bass and shakes the couch. It's a great stereo for someone that can't afford ultra high end audio and wants the basic entertainment audio setup. The surround sound isn't as great as you'd think it would be as the surround speakers offer more ambient room sound and reverb and do not act as separate surround speakers. When listening with headphones, the headphone jack does not support high quality headphones as the sound cuts out every two seconds, but these are the only things that aren't good with the system. Treat it right and it will serve you well. Bass is good, sound EQ variety is good, auto dubbing is good, and sound is decent. Alarm timer and all other options available for this stereo make it a quality garage setup or a good basic setup for a playroom or something that is not a legitimate home entertainment audio package. For now I am using it to hold me over until I can buy the super expensive equipment that really shines. I play Wii U and watch Netflix through it almost daily. All the lights work and tape decks still function. Hopefully it will last me forever. Three stars due to the headphone and surround issues, 4 stars for the durability and now sentimental value. |

Strength:
price
Weakness:
quality is lacking in all areas except construction This is not a stand out product. It fails as a surround sound system. While other speakers are playing the rear speakers are far too quiet to hear when placed further than 3 inches from ear. Ok maybe not 3 inches. 10 inches I guess... It also fails as a 2 speaker system. The sound is a bit harsh at all sound levels and sound settings. The system has very little bass. It was exciting to see the additional wOOx woofer (it looks very cool if you take off the protective cloth covering), but unfortunately the bass enhancement it provides is negligible even on its max setting. It's not a horrible system, but I'm sure much better systems are out there for a lower price. This is my first and last purchase of a 5 speaker stereo system. I don't understand how you can get a true surround sound experience with 2 regular sized speakers and 3 tiny ones. It seems to me that you'd need 5 of the same sized speakers for even sound. One more thing. The sound quality coming from all of the speakers is not very good. I'm not sure how to describe it, but take this analogy... good stereo's sound:hdtv :: this stereo's sound:tv with antenna. Similar Products Used: Sony 3-way 2speaker 150watts |
