I have purchased this unit less than a year ago from Cructhfield, for $299 on the final sale. The unit has black finish and good construction. The speakers that came with it are quite good in size, BUT they are not based on a true 3-way system (as I thought originally before buying)- no midrage, just 2 tweeters and one woofer.
The CD capacity at first seems to be a lot, but now I like to have more room. The CD does offer Text/Title functionality but it does not offer grouping and PC keyboard input - a great help if you are trying to label all of them. A very good feature of this section is the optical digital output.

Tape section is just OK as far as sound quality goes, I have not tried recording/dubbing any stuff yet. The tape does not have AMS - what a BUMMER!!!

Tuner section is quite good for my needs - I do not care for it in a bookshelf system anyway. The remote is very useless, it has nothing on it!!!

The overall sound quality of the system is just *** average ***

Here's what I did to the unit:

I got myself some better speakers from KLH 912b they have much much much better eff. 90 db with 12 inch woofer 5 1/4 midrange and 1 inch tweeter. I have connected them with 14 gauge wire. There is a GREAT improvement in the sound quality.

I am now trying to use this system as a Tape/CD player only, using its AUX/Digital output into a real receiver - which I am still evaluating (like Yamaha 5150/5140 or Sony STR-DB930) For the price that I have paid for it justifies to not use its amp section.

Summary:
For those who are not as picky as me, should be able to find this unit to be quite OK. Although I would recommend getting some good speaker to enhance the performance for few extra dollars.

I will give 1 speaker for remote, 3 speakers for sound quality, 4 speaker for constuction. Overall 4 speakers because you can do stuff to enhance performance out of this unit.
