Strength:

It really works!!

Weakness:

Style

It took over two weeks to break this in but prior to break in I admit I had my skepticals. Bottomline: This beats any other line or power conditioner I'd ever tried or used in my gear. I do not need to say more because my other fellow reviewers have said it all. For those still tempting. Do yourself a favor, go get one yourself and you have 30 days to decide. As for mine you have to break into my house to get it back. Please hand over the wine.

Strength:

Improves the sound of DAC's greatly, also improves the sound Pre Amp and power amps

Weakness:

Runs very hot

The effect of the P 300 is most dramatic on the sound of Strings on CD's processed by a TPC DAC 2.5 with upgraded op amps. Muddyness disappears bringing a level of clarity and resolution I have never heard before on discs which I have played on many hi fi systems. The improvement is as great as HDCD compared to regular CD

The effect of the P300 also quite noticeable on Adcom GFP750 pre amp and Ayre V-3 power amp. With all this equipment plugged in and at moderate power levels, the power reading is 180.

Varying the frequency changes the flavour of the sound subtly. For me, on my system, it is hard to decide which frequency is better. For anyone with a good Hi Fi system this is a must try device.

Note - I live in a pre war apartment building where the AC power is pretty polluted and distorted with old wiring, numerous dimmers and refridgerators

Strength:

Everything everyone else said.

Weakness:

None.

This is not a review, so much as a word about a possible tweak that will bring your system that much closer to nirvana. If you have a P300 with your front end plugged into it, AND you have a P600 and you are not pushing it too much, plug the P300 INTO the P600. Believe it or not, you will gain just a bit more. Not like when you first started out without a Power Plant, but the noise will drop just a bit more, the treble will be a bit cleaner, and the bass just a bit more extended. This was a hint from Johnathan at PS Audio. I have the preamp and amp plugged into one isolated side, and the P300 plugged into the second isolated side with a AudioPrism Quietline plugged into the other socket in the duplex. The P300 has the turntable, Cd player, tuner, and tape deck plugged into it. This is so awesome, when I am playing a CD it is isolated from the amp/preamp on the P600 not only through the isolated circuits of the P600, but also the P300 and the Quietline. You can use a separate multiwave from the P300 for just the CD, and use another setting for the amp/preamp from the P600. When you are playing a record, you can have the LP on sin on the P300, but the P600 can be doing multiwaves for the amp/preamp. Just make sure to turn off the CD player when you are playing lps. The P300 does not care that it is being fed multiwaves, it just regenerates clean(er) power. This is an expensive setup, but it really should be tried.

I just wanted to add my say here after purchasing the power
plant. I'm still in the 30 day grace period but I'll not
be sending it back. Its probably the best bang for buck upgrade I've ever done. It runs my CD/DVD player, jitter reducer, and pre/pro. The sonic improvements aren't subtle
at all. They send it with a fan now which I didn't want but
its easy to unhook. No other complaints. People say it runs hot but it doesn't get too hot to comfortably put you hand on the top so I don't really see the concern others seem to have. My amp runs alot hotter. 5 stars.

Strength:

Solid construction, easy to upgrade, improves multiple components at once

Weakness:

Runs Hot!!!, poor power efficiency, odd shape

Just thought i would add my .02 to all the praise this unit has been receiving.

BACKGROUND

I bought mine used for $800 and immediately ordered the multiwave upgrade kit. When I received the unit, it was TRIPLE boxed. Wow! As I quickly removed it from the box, I admired its sleek look and very sturdy construction. (Boy this thing is heavy!) I was concerned about the length of the unit and whether it would fit on my rack or not. Fortunately, the Lovan rack accomodated it but I can see how some people with more traditional (enclosed) racks might have some problems.

SETUP

I plugged in four devices into the unit: CD transport, DVD player, tube DAC, and preamp/processor. With all the units turned on the unit showed 120W of power used.

LISTENING

I used the unit for several weeks before the Multiwave upgrade arrived and was pleased at the overall improvement over my entire system. Trebles and Midrange had become clearer with more detail becoming apparent. Also, i noticed less "grunge" in my CD collection. It was something that I simply dismissed as part of the recording but didn't notice the difference until it was gone. Perhaps the most notable difference was the tightness in the bass that I was getting. The muddiness that I had grown accustomed to simply vanished! With movies, I used to feel that I had to have the remote close at hand to turn down the movie during action scenes or when the soundtrack simply became to bright to tolerate. Lately, even my fiancee has started to watch many of my action flicks with me stating that "they no longer make my head hurt". Now that is an endorsement!

MULTIWAVE IMPRESSIONS

When the multiwave arrived, I spent only a few minutes installing it and was ready to go. I have found that SS5 is my favorite setting. The Multiwave did not bring the night and day difference that adding the Powerplant did to my system but it improved the overall balance and tonality of my system nonetheless. One drawback for my system (and I hear this differs from system to system) is that the Powerplant runs even hotter now. Too hot to touch when components are on.

OTHER PRODUCTS

When compared to my previous line conditioners, there simply is no comparison. The Panamax 1000 and Monstercable HTS3500 simply could not match the benefits of the Powerplant. This is because those units try to "filter" out noise while the Power Plant simply prevents any noise by generating its own clean power.

RECOMMENDATION

Even with the minor flaws stated above, I still rate this product a five star in both value and overall rating. Why? Because you simply can't get a similar product in the same price range that provides these kinds of benefits while offering it at an exceptional value.

With a 30 day money-back guarantee; you really can't lose. If you have been contemplating about this unit, get it now! I was skeptical too and am now a believer.

Kudos to Paul and his team at PS Audio.

Strength:

Increased dynamics, depth, coherence and dimensionality. Seems to improve the performance of every component plugged to it.

Weakness:

None that I can hear. Runs hot and produces slight hum or whistling above 70 hz on my pre-amp power supply.

Got intrigued by the concept of power regeneration for better sound, so I ordered the unit for audition. Benefits I heard were immediate. Improved pace, rhythm, impact and clarity were the first things that jumped out of the woodwork. Detail without etch, soaring highs and tighter, lower lows, the sense of hearing more of my music, nuances, inflections and subtle spatial cues I have not heard before startling and thrilling me. There is a joy of rediscovering my favorites and hearing, no, feeling them in a whole new way. A bit pricey, but for my ears, money well spent indeed.

My system: Bryston 7B-ST monoblocks, Rega Planar 25 with Super Elys/P600 arm, Theta Miles CD Player, Bryston BP-25P Pre-Amp, ARC PH-3 Phono Pre-Amp, Thiel CS 2.3 speakers, REL Strata III Subwoofer, BEL 'The Wire', Kimber KCAG interconnects, Analysis Plus Silver Oval speaker cables, Shunyata Research Mamba, Black Mamba and Cobra PowerSnakes,

Strength:

Takes everything about a system and makes it better. And then some. Excellent Price:Performance. Improves anything you plug into it. The overall effect is impossible to explain, like the matrix except you have to hear as WELL as see it for yourself ;-)

Weakness:

Isn't free or extremely cheap. Uses a lot of power. Errrrm........

It's all true, I'm afraid you'll have to buy one ;-)

I got my export PS300 a couple of weeks ago, and it gets better and better. If you already own the PS300 then you can get the fan kit as Jeff mentioned from May 15th for about $100. The kit comes with nice new "feet" to support the unit which are available free to all existing owners whether you buy the fan kit or not. I support the unit w/ 2 CFI's so there is maximum airflow around the unit which is too hot to touch, but does that really matter? The heat doesn't seem to affect the sound, so so long as you position it carefully I doubt you'll have a problem.

Frankly this could be the only "must-have" component across all systems and price ranges. It seems expensive but when you consider that you can radically improve up to 4 components it really isn't.

Also the PS Audio staff are great, especially PaulMc who has put up with months of questions and whining ;-)

Strength:

Enhancement of clarity, depth, and bass. Lives up to all manufacturer claims

Weakness:

Awkward chassis design - will not fit on shelf

After some time with the PS Audio Powerplant (ordered from Audionut), I have the following observations:

1) Initial Audition (cold out of the box): Greater clarity and depth were immediately apparent.

2) As the unit broke in, clarity and depth continued to improve, with an increase in the music's impact, dynamism, and presence, as well as a very noticeable improvement in bass extension.

3) After one week of use, things just keep on getting better.

Frankly, I was somewhat skeptical about the claims for this product. After auditioning it, it is my opinon that this is a landmark product that definitely lives up to the rave reviews it has received. It definitely belongs on anyone's short list for "product of the year."
