Strength:

Everything!!!

Weakness:

Power consumption

The virtues of this product have already been well documented on this site. I'll add my voice to the chorus, and say that this product has done wonders toward improving the sound of my system. Sure, it has peeled away more glare, reduced the electronic "edge," lowered the noise floor, increased the dynamics, and improved the bass definition. But beyond these piecemeal descriptions, it has given the system a liquidity and realism that is entirely new and unexpected. Diana Krall's voice sounds more real and fluid than ever before. The presence of her voice and the instruments on her jazz sets is just astonishing, even as I write this review in the next room!

Best of luck!

Strength:

I no longer have to worry about the mains.

Weakness:

Runs very hot.

I agree with everything below. Make sure to allow at least three weeks break in time before forming a final judgement. Leave the unit at 60Hz during this time, after which you should try other settings. I have found that sonic differences occur at 70, 80 and 90Hz. The final choice is yours, but once you've found it, leave it alone. I would also advise not to allow the unit to rise above 150W consumption, as it then becomes almost intolerably hot. Anyone interested in mid to high end Hifi must pay this some attention.

Strength:

Wonderful improvement in sound

Weakness:

Odd shape..but very cool looking! Fan noise somewhat noticeable.

I've had this since Christmas and just love it. I won't echo all the previous comments except to say this: since getting the P300, it has been hard to tear myself away from my system! Music is so much more involving, it just forces you to stay glued to the chair, track after track.

A few other comments: my preamp and CD player only draw about 40W...at that load, heat is not an issue at all. All factory units now come with both multiwave and the fan installed. I've been tempted to disconnect the fan in order to elimnate the noise, as it is audible during quiet passages.

Overall, an upgrade worth every penny!

During my "audio-lifetime" I tried a lot of -let's say - tweaks. As life is, some of the goodies were really good some more or less obsolet. Now - for the very first time - I bought a component without having heard anything before, it was just the trust in the work of the McGowan-Clan. That was one of my best ideas. My system is now singing the song of perfection and emotion in a way I allways looked for. And that because of the Power Plant.
Mr. McGowan - you did a great job !

This product is nothing short of TREMENDOUS! Any music lover who has any semblance of a musically satisfying high-fidelity system NEEDS one of these bad boys! Where else can you SIGNIFICANTLY upgrade up to four components for under $1000. Best thing since sliced bread.

An ABSOLUTE MUST BUY!!!

All I can say is that this is the most revolutionary product that I have encountered in 20+ years in this crazy hobby. This is not some subtle, strain to discern a difference item, it is the real deal!! Sell your SCE or TDS plus the associated cable and buy one of these. Also look into the Chang 9900 for your power amp (or spring for the PS P600 if you can afford). Even my wife was blown away by this (she does have better hearing). We have found that the 85 hz setting gives the best results. The higher you go the more dimensional it gets, but you begin to get thinning or less body as the hz is increased. This is as big an improvement as going from a $2000 amp to a $7000 amp. I am not kidding and I am not in any way related to PS AUDIO (as a matter of fact, I have never been very impressed with their stuff until now). Mcgowan got this one right--good job!! I would recommend it as the product of the decade!! This will improve any system, at any price. Run, don't walk to buy one of these. Don't even consider the other conditioners--Ive tried them all. Nothing comes close.

Weakness:

none

The most revolutionary product of it's kind. It's amazing that no one else thought of this before.

Strength:

Improved imaging, greater separation of instruments, crisper sound without harshness or edge, greater detail.

Weakness:

Runs extremely hot, large unit, high frequency settings (> 75 hertz) can cause mild mechanical humming in some equipment.

This is one of the best pieces of audio equipment I have ever purchased. I did a direct trial from PS Audio with the addition of their Extension Link (another good product) and this puppy is staying with me. I was surprised how many pieces of equipment I could plug into the P300 without overloading it's rated 300 watt draw. Following is a list of the equipment I have running off the Power Plant:

VPI Jr. turntable
Lehmann Black Cube phono stage
Sonic Frontier's Anthem Pre 1L preamp
2 Cary CAD-300SE Signature monoblock amps
REL Strata II sub woofer
Denon DCD-1500 cd player

These pieces make the Power Plant register 200 watts or less when cranked and rolling.

Strength:

Provides clean power in a new and modern way

Weakness:

some say the shape i like it, does get hot

Well im not here to say how good this product is, for that just read the rest of the reviews on the power plant 300. I read those reviews and went i bought one from ps audio direct. First off ps audio is a well run company, im only 25
but i know nice people from people who just want to sell you stuff and the ps audio staff rocks. They stayed on the phone for a hour just totally explaining the power plant in plain english.

here are some tips:

1) people complain about how hot the unit gets, ps audio is comming out with a new base plate with fans to fix the problem but for now they recomended putting it up on bricks or stone to let air surround it. Of course this is not nesessary if the wattage meter is bellow 200. because the unit should stay fairly cool.

2) the manuel says not to used power amps on the unit but i was told that go ahead and try them make sure the power meter stays below 260 for optimum usage. some power amps draw in less power than they give out. My amps give out 200wts per channel and i only register 120 on the meter scale on the unit.

well above else just enjoy like i am. Ps Audio has won me over and im sure they will win you over too.

and no i dont work for them!!!!!

set up:

sony dvp s7700 (weighted down with Audionut.com powerslab)
sony tae 9000es pre-amp
2 sony tan 9000es amps btl setup for 200watts per channel
Monter cable m2.2s speaker cable
an old pair of JBl l300s (older than me but still the best)
PS Audio power plant 300 (wish i could afford the 600)
energy 15 sub woofer
Skyline rear diffusers (make a huge difference)

feel free to email with any question or ideas or thoughts on systems.

Strength:

Improves tone, contrasts and presence of sound

Weakness:

Size and shape

I've been using a PS300 for about six months. The improvement it makes in my system was apparent from the day I first installed it. I was sceptical that something so relatively inexpensive could help improve the sound of my system. I was wrong!

The unit does generate a lot of heat even though I only run the front end (transport, D/A and Pre-amp) through it. I had to put it on cones to get more air circulation. This is a minor complaint compared to what you gain from this device. I just installed the Multi-Wave upgrade available from PS Audio for $250.00. On my better disks (Chesky,Mapleshade) there is an additional improvement in soundstage depth and vocal/instrumental tone that is not a bid subtle. Other disks display some improvement but not as noticeable. I think the recommended mult-wave form SS1 does provide the greatest effect. Anyone who is pleased with the PS300 performance will enjoy the added benefit from the new upgrade.
