Strength:

Much cleaner sound, deeper bass, more transparent highs. Very small for the class.

Weakness:

None that I can think of.

Well - to be completely honest - I did not believe in PLC's. Until yesterday.
I was searching for some rare capacitors on the Web (tweaking my amp) and ran across the review of the RGPC - by Richard Hardesty of "Widescreen Review".
I was so surprised by the tone of the review that I decided that I simply HAVE to try this thing.
Power in my house is nothing to write home about and I was using few PLC's in the last few years - not a single one with any result other that "zero difference".
Enter the RGPC.
I did everything by the book.
I disconnected all my audio equipment from the current PLC (some box by Monster - worst 500 bucks I've ever spent) and from each other.
I connected my pre-, power-, and CD-player to each other - nothing more.
I connected them to the wall directly.
I put in one of my favorite CD's.
I listened to one of my favorite songs.
Then I turned everything off, connected to the RGPC and turned on again. Then I pressed the # 6 button on my CD player's remote (the song I was referring to).
I was so shocked by the difference that I had hard time rearranging my mind.
And then my wife - which happened to take part in the experiment - found the right words for me.
"Did you turn up the volume?" - she asked. - No I did not.

Try it. It is well worth the money and you will hear the difference immediately.

Now to the equipment.
The units that took part in the experiment.
Yamaha CX-1
Yamaha MX-1
Pioneer PD-S06

As you can understand from the equipment list - I am not a high-end person - I simply cannot afford high-end gear. But this PLC does make a difference worth investment.

Richard Gray's Power Company(s) {x2}

Since Richard Gray operates his business not far from me here in New Orleans, LA, he gets around to doing plenty of seminars at some of the local audio/video retailers here in New Orleans. I went to a Martin Logan seminar at my choice of retailer, "Audio Resource", where Richard Gray also demonstrated his new product at that time. He A/B'd his power companys vs. raw power to several systems that were set up. Results; "STELLAR"!

In my situation I had just purchased a Tice PowerBlock III HP to clean up some of the crappy noise coming through the sockets in the wall. The Tice definitely alleviated that issue. Richard Gray told me that I should connect everything directly into the PCs if I purchased one or more that night. I was skeptical about letting go of $1,400 on two of them, so I did not purchase any that night.

As the Tice PBIII-HP was breaking in, something was still missing. I have always been a fan of large and full sounding headroom.
So, I went to Audio Resource trying to figure out what it was that I should do to liven up my system; Jay Valentino gave me two Power Companys to try out. I got them home and connected my system to them after they had been plugged in the wall for about 20 minutes .

WHOLLY S*#T! You would have thought that I just purchased an entirely new system. Then that is not all, The Tice PBIII-HP has two electrical cords attached to it; one for source components and one for high powered components. Each line of the Tice got its own connection to a Power Company. The power guage on the front of the Tice usually sagged and fluctuated; showing the kind of crappy power entering the house. That B*#TCH stood straight up! It has not deviated or shown fluctuation movements since.

My system is now so enjoyable to listen to! It does take time to get things just the way you want them to be. The Power Companys have BIG BALLS! The PowerCompanys are designed to prevent your system from the limitations of crappy line current. They are like having the power company right next door to your home. You get the fresh power before the rest of the neighborhood. Clean, Limitless, Power on demand!

I can't emphasize the word CLEAN enough! You haven't heard the potential of your system yet. I'm telling you; you haven't heard your system yet. You don't have to buy them; just try em'. They came home with me, I called Jay at Audio Resource an hour later and told him that the Power Companys weren't coming back to his store, only a check to pay for them. They are expensive, but to me an extremely valuable investment incorporated into my system.

Having bought the Monster Cable HTS-5000 to power my rather large audio/video system (see http://home.ix.netcom.com/~philox/_wsn/page2.html), the first unit turned off my pre-amp when I turned on the amp, replacement unit worked fine, then bought HTS-2000 which buzzed when the Proscan HDTV had a white screen, replacement unit worked fine. Okay Monster Cable is out even if the 2nd units worked, sold the HTS-5000 but I am tired of going back to the store for replacement units, time for a new company & philosophy...I am part of an unoffical Martin Logan speaker club, a friend is running the same SL3/Logos combo as my audio/video system but with a PS Audio P600 which rans cool (the P300 rans hot & has an upgrade fan) with the cleanest & quietest sound I ever heard for a Martin Logan speaker system. My friend is also using top of the line Synergistic Research Reference Active Sheild interconnects WOW!!! Amnother friend tried the PS Audio P300 with NHT 3.3 speakers & Classe 150 watt amp, but returned the unit to PS Audio because of heat problems. The PS Audio P600 however is a great unit, but rather large & there is no place to put it in my small frontroom. Therefore I needed something to power my Audio Research tubed LS16 pre-amp, Theta Casa Nova processor, Sony XA7ES CD transport, & Pioneer DVL-919 CD/LD/DVD transport while the Aragon 8008BB & 8008-X3 amps are pluged direct into a 20 amp curcuit. With the amps far away & the HDTV with other small audio units in the Monster Cable HTS-2000, the Richard Gray 400 holds the charge for my pre-amps & transports to make the sound stable with more presence. I am pleased with the Richard Gray's small size, it fits behind my left Martin Logan SL3, & for my purposes fit the bill, even if the product is over priced...it went up to $750 this year. Try the PS Audio P600, it gives the best sound, but is too large & has 1/2 ratio of recharge. JD3

Strength:

Improved detail and soundstage

Weakness:

High price

This product seems overpriced for such a simple device. It is hard to argue with the results, though. I would suggest getting this device only after everything else in your system is carefully selected and you have the speakers and electronics that you want. Adding the Richard Gray's Power Company will help to bring out more detail and realism to the music. It won't fix a poor sounding system.

A few cautionary words:
-The explanation for how this device works given by the company is totally bogus. I don't think that these guys know how their own device really works. Their explanation borders on ludicrous.

-The instructions says that just plugging the unit into the wall, with no equipment directly plugged into it, will demonstrate an improvement in audio quality. Not true in my case. It wasn't until I plugged in my preamp and source components that any difference was detected.

Use this device on your transports and preamp. As the instructions say, plug your amps into the wall directly and plug your CD player and DAC into the Power Company. Use some really good power cords (e.g. ElectraGlide) with this device and you're in business!

Strength:

Simplicity, compact size, removes glare and improves dynamics

Weakness:

none

Contrary to the views of that "elitist windbag" in Stereophile, I have had very positive results with my ARC PH2/LS25/VT100 mkII plugged into the RGPC. My enjoyment of music was greatly enhanced: all musical parameters were inproved with no noticeable downside.

It is unfortunate that "other" considerations, apart from its ability to improve the performance of a system, were used to carry out a "hatchet job" on this very promising product.
