Strength:
Triple head, durable, crsip sound (even for tape!).
Weakness:
Large size makes it a difficult fit for some rack systems. I bought this used over the internet back 1995, although I don't use it often but I

Bought this machine 11 years ago. In my humble opinion it was Akai's best. Not a single problem over the years. Even the motorized door works! This was what I thought would be the 1st part to break. Good sound. DBX seldom if ever used because of the slight "breathing" it creates. Here's a tip to preserve the rubber capstan: Obtain Teac's/Tascam's rubber cleaner/restorer. This product is applied to the rubber roller with a cotton swab, allowed to remain for a minute and then removed with a clean swab. Available from Teac/Tascam and well worth the extra care. An excellent piece of equipment. |

Strength:
Has an authentic sound with and has 'real'space around instrumets.
Weakness:
Do not get it serviced by authorised dealers, trust me they'll ruin it ! I have owned one since new (1988,i know i put 1995 up at the top but theirs no way off put the real year in ) and did enjoy recording off it until i decided to get it serviced and know is next to useless so have decided to send it back to Japan. |
