Strength:

Japanese built solid machine, well shielded, well featured, excellent display with peak hold, recordings sound very near to source on any tape type, capable of producing uncoloured faithful recordings. Good headphone output stage, twin record input selector, direct drive, 3 head

Weakness:

On aged decks the calibration selector button needs treatment with Deoxit after which calibration works perfectly again, glossy casing is a finger print magnet.

Weakness:

No Dolby S, but that's not important

I have this machine for five years and had no problems whatsoever, I simply love it still.

Strength:

very good sound with almost every kind of tape, high quality built, remote control, well thought trough deck

Weakness:

The cassettedoor didn't always shut totally when a tape is put in. So you had to give it a little push to close it right. No Dolby S and just one direct driven motor for both capstans instead of two

I sold it because I could sell a new Pioneer CT-93. Looks similar, but has better features except for the remote control

Strength:

10 years to prove it's durability! No complain even compare with Philps LHH-800R CD player.

Weakness:

The LED display is not that clear.

Over 10 years be my best partner, it is never let me down when I make the recordings. I'm the first and the only owner of this unit, and I bought it 10 year ago in Hong Kong at around USD500. Although, tape recorder seems like fade-out from the audio world, if you don't want to invest on a DAT recorder GX-95 MKII is a best buy. Of cause, if you can find one at the used market. As I mention before, the source to the GX-95II is LHH-800R, the signal is passing through the McIntosh C37 pre-amp; difference can be hear the CDs and the tapes, but you cannot tell which one is better. Sometime I even prefer the sound come from the Gx-95II, it is more musical and live! One more thing need to be mentioned, the cables. I use two pair of Cello AS One to be the I/O connection, please using some high quality cables. This tape deck is cable sensitive.

I've bought this deck half year ago as a second hand. The first surprise was that it was absolutely new ( it's a very good deal for this price). But the second was grave. Deck was complitely untuned. But due to my high education in radioelectronics it takes 3 days and 10$ ( industrial AMPEX tape with recorded signal, as a rule this tape is used by manufacturas to tune tape deck of HI-FI class) to harmonize it. The result was very impressible. I could hardly differ it's sound from my CD ( KENWOOD DP7090 4X2 Burr-Brown PCM1702). Using HI-class tapes suck as TDK MA-XG or TDK MA-X i could differ CD players used as source. After listening this deck i've decided never to buy MD.

Strength:

livetime gurantee, best hifi qualities in this category

Weakness:

-

I bought this deck in the early 90, because of the good sound and remote control features. All my old tapes , recorded on Alpine AL 75, can be played without any azimuth correction.
Best deck I ever have, hope to have it many years.
