Would have loved to have the KX-W950 but Yamaha discontinued it. Like so many audio companies quality tape decks are dissapearing. Just a matter of consumer demand I guess. It seems quality tape decks are getting harder and harder to find. Thats why I'm glad I got this one when I did. In fact I don't see it in the latest Yamaha Catologue. It was being cleared out for just over half price too! Enough about economics I agree with the the review below; the DSP makes re-discovering older tapes a lot of fun.I use it as well with the tape-monitor on my EQ to give the same treatment to records that need it. On newer well recorded cassettes the sound can aproach CD Quality. With the HX-pro and Dolby C no tape hiss is apparent. The thing I like the best about it though is the play trim knob which replaces the highs that the dolby noise reduction system takes out.In other words the "hiss" is gone but the highs are not. All 'n' all it's a fine machine that hopefully will last me a while. When I see what's available now, I realize it's the last of a dying breed. Similar Products Used: Yamaha KX-W332 & KX-W492 |

After considerable "homework", I selected the KX-W592 to replace an aging Aiawa single transport deck. I have been delighted with the purchase. One of the features, Digital Super Surround (DSS) gives new life to tapes destined for use in the car. The performance location and degree of surround effects is extensive and easy to use. Dynamic Bias Servo permits recording at levels 10-20% greater than one might be used to with absolutely no distrotion, creating a tape with superior headroom. |
