Strength:
The specs speak for themselves, and Accuphase garantees that each unit meets the published specs!'Nuff said.Visit the website and read all about it.It doesn't get much better than this.As far as I am concerned this tuner is about as transparent as they come.IM and THD are as low as is possible to engineer in the here and now.Ease of use could not be much better-the remote makes it a snap to use:unlike the "remote system"for the Magnum MD 102 which works like an after thought to say the least!!!!Fit and finish akin to a Patek-Phillpe watch.
Weakness:
Not quite as sensitive in stereo as my old Mac MR 80.As I live 60 miles north of NYC I need all the gain I can get.If you are into DXing this tuner may not suit your needs.I am currently using an old Channel Master 4409(the little brother of the 4408)for an antenna.I suspect fitting an APS 9 or APS 13 in the future will overcome the slight lack of front end sensitivity of this unit.Expensive!!!! One of the most refined products of any kind that I have had the pleasure of owning. With possibly one exception, the best sounding tuner I have ever heard. That one exception being a Naim NAT-01,which sadly has been discontinued.Broadcasters with the resources to afford this unit would be well served to use this as a monitoring tool. This tuner will let you know exactly what is being broadcast;and at times you wish you didn't know!I've heard poorly gronded control boards ,HVAC systems run amok, mikes wired out of phase etc, etc. However I had the pleasure of listening to a "New Sounds" live broadcast on WNYC a few nights ago and it was stunning!!!!If any of you out there are considering buying your last FM tuner,by all means check this one out.
