Too expensive

I wanted to leave a comment for the previous review but alas I failed...

So...I looked at getting this for the HD radio but the price was WAY too much for my blood. Don't get me wrong, I have high quality tube compoents but could not justify spending $900 for a radio. I opted for the Sangean HDT-1 instead. For $200 (at Crutchfield), it's a bargain. I didn't need/want the satalite radio so that was something I didn't want to pay extra for.

Upgrades can be downloaded from your computer. Rotel provides a cable, but you need to buy a serial to USB converter.
Updates are available, but Rotel warns you if the upgrade fails,
you might need to send the unit in for servicing.

Purchased July 2008....

I just bought the 1084 after considering xm satellite, squeezebox duet,
sonus and the sangean HDT1x. Got pissed at xm after they wouldn't allow one license to access both my car and home (car has xm built in). Told me i would need to buy a receiver and move back and forth, bypassing my built in car receiver. Ruled out the squeezebox and sonus since
i don't particularly want to burn my CDs to the computer and internet
radio sound quality is poor. Listened to the 1084 and the Sangean and
both are very good with an edge to the Rotel. Main reason i chose the Rotel is because it matches the looks of my Musical Fidelity A5 amp and CD player. Gotta say, HD radio was a great choice. I live in Denver and most stations have an HD signal, but best of all they broadcast 2 stations...the regular commercial BS and a non commercial simulcast. We have couple of really good commercial free stations and the sound quality is excellent. If i had known about the commercial free stations i would have bought one much earlier. I have no use for the Sirius though. Rotel says they will soon come out with an HD radio without the Sirius. It'll probably be about $600 ish
