Strength:

MP3 Playback. Slim casing. Attractive silver casing. Lightweight. Very readable display. Multiple search options. Decent battery life.

Weakness:

It won't wash my car.

I have truly enjoyed my Philips EXP201. I am truly sorry that other people have thrashed it in negative reviews. The sound quality has been very clear and resonant (as is the norm for Philips products), and I have had no trouble getting the volume to levels that I like. What most people don't understand is that it is not the player that determines the overall volume, but the file. If the file is bad, so shall the playback be. I love this unit. I give it 2 thumbs up and 5 out of 5 stars.

Strength:

Has MP3 playback capabillity.

Weakness:

Just about everything else. It skips, the sound quality sucks, and it takes FOREVER for it to read and recognize CD's. Also, the player is a real power consumer, it averages a 3-hour battery life.

When I first saw the CD player in the case, I thought it looked pretty cool. I'd never had anything that could playback MP3 cd's before, so I went on and bought it. That was the biggest mistake I'd ever made. Immediately, I went to take it back, only to realize that I'd lost my receipt. I told them it was defective (because it skipped so much - much more than one with 45-second antiskip should do). I really brought it back to pick out a different player, but instead they took it and told me to get ANOTHER ONE that was EXACTLY THE SAME!!! That made me mad. I went ahead and got the other one. When I got it home and popped in the same CD, it still skipped. I tried it with other CD's. No improvement. I then realized that I had wasted my money and should me more wise in picking out future products. I went ahead and decided to use it for about a year. As the time went on, I discovered more and more flaws within the product. One of the major things was the amount of power that it required. The case said that it had about a 10-hour battery life. Yeah right! The most I've ever had on battery life was 3 hours, and that's with the new Energizer E2 batteries!! The player also takes about one minute to read a CD before it plays (which also wastes battery power). Another thing I hated about the CD player was the fact that you couldn't disable ESP when you listened to CD's in MP3 format, which really drained battery power when sitting at home in bed. Another really disappointing thing about the cd player was the terrible sound quality. The so-called DBB enhancer adds only a fraction of the bass and treble that I normally liked. Because of that, It took me twice as long to burn the CD's because I had to re-sample all of the songs to the level of bass and treble that I liked (in a way that when added to DBB, it would sound like a Sony). I also had to add about 25% volume to all of the songs because the music would be too soft to hear while on the bus or something like that. The sound quality was a real shock because most of Philips's products have great sound quality. I don't know what they did wrong on this one. Nevertheless, I decided to take apart the player after about a year and salvage some of it's parts for use in making other, more useful, electronic devices. The bottom line is that you should NOT get the EXP201. It's a waste of money.
