Strength:
yes, very nice sound quality for a portable player
Weakness:
absolutely unacceptably weak button unit. real weak point, made me lose my confidence in this brand. pity. also very bad customer service in this case. I''m sorry, but this player sucks big time. After 5 months of very careful use all the functions got totally mixed (''play'' -button changed the track, ''play mode'' worked as ''stop'' etc.) Soon the sound started to fade out for a few moments.. Finally, after few weeks, only a very gentle touch on the lid of the player and the whole thing was cut off. I sent the player to Sony service in the UK, got very rude customer service, it took a long time but they ''fixed'' it eventually. I got the player back but only after one week the same problem appeared again. At this time I was moving to another country and didn''t want to leave the player in the UK service. Afterwards I was just too fed up with the whole thing, so I just sent them a letter and told they might want to have a look at their service staff''s ''professionality''. I also decided never to buy a Sony again. |

Strength:
Sleek looks. AVLS and resume controls. Very good sound quality. (Am using Grado SR-125) headphones. Very useful remote.
Weakness:
I just recently repaired this unit. Like some of the reviewers who complained of loose lid that causes a missing battery indicator. The real cause is the ribbon cable from the lid switch unit to the PCB at the base of the unit. After much use, the ribbon cable cracks (at the hinge) and the contacts are broken. Spare parts are available from Sony at about $60. Although this unit is about 3 years old. It''s looks are better than those currently in the market. I have the E-700 model (Asian Market) which was bought in Hong Kong. The audio quality is a bit bright and I prefer to use bass boost to increase the lower frequencies. It also has a groove mode which has even more bass but sound quality becomes muddy. Though the size of this unit is perfect to carry around. ESP2 is more than sufficent for use in the car. Backlighted remote is very nice and controls all the functions. Similar Products Used: Other Sony Discman. |

This portable cd player was unbelievable. The new ESP2 Steadysound System was incredible. I couldn't get it to skip! The sound was incredible, very clear and crisp. It has a slim design, less than 1/2 inch thick. A beautiful piece of equipment. |

The design of the Discman is unparallel. But the music output is disappointing for listeners would likes music reproduction that is 'warm' and with more 'depth'. The music tend to be too sharp and the bass (in two modes) tends to swallow other intruments in the music. If you are looking for a cool discman, this is the one to get. If you are looking for a discman with good sound reproduction -- this is not the one to get. |

I have the D-E705 and the sound is amzing! Also the ESP2 is so much better than any other shock pertections that I've tried. Yet, the only problem is that the lid on mine is loose and now I have to press down on the lid to see the battery life, kinda blows. But anyhow the sound and shock pertection is good so it makes up for the loose lid. If you are looking for a good very slim portable CD player get the D-E705. |

This is an excellent deal. The sound is great, it's loaded with features, and is available at excellent prices. You can't ask for more. It has an MD link optical digital out. If you want a really nice portable CD, give it a serious look, soon, as it appears Sony is replacing it, and they're being closed out. Grab a D-E705 and a pair of Grado SR60 headphones, and you are set. Awesome! |

Strength:

Weakness:
none This player has plenty of good features and the sound is OK. The esp works very well and it doesn't chew up batteries like some others. Got it for $100 but it was originally $170 or more. For the price I paid it's about what you would expect but it's not worth $170 or more. Similar Products Used: panasonic |

The d-e705 is very cool looking and the music quality is great. The ONLY reason why I purchased this discman was because it has an optical output for recording MD's. Although it was a bit expensive ($165), it's performance did not fall short of my expectations. The only problem I have with this discman is the fricken lid--the left side does not shut all the way due to the clip. It is not obvious but being that I'm anal it pisses me off. |

I bought this sucker for a mere $100 on sale at BestBuy, and I'm pretty satisfied with it's style and performance. I noticed in this forum that others have spent much more for the unit, so I'm appreciating the thing even more. It can belt-out tunes rather well on my Grado SR60s, although it can treble can sound a little harsh at times. |
