Strength:

Good looks, long battery life, included NiMH batteries

Weakness:

MAD SKIPPING!

I think I made a mistake when I bought this. The unit I bought omitted the headphones (which are permanently attached to the remote). I got it for $150 CDN, not bad.

However, this unit skips fairly frequently. Without ESP2 enabled, gentle walking will cause it to skip repeatedly. With ESP2 on, skipping is greatly reduced, but not totally eliminated. What's fascinating is that Sony says this has 16 MB (Megabits?) of memory, but doesn't state the the amount of audio time is stored within the buffer.

The rechargeable NiMH batteries are great, giving 13 hrs of life, alkaline batteries go up to 23 hrs.

The Mega Bass is useful since it does increase bass without destroying other sound ranges. The Groove Sound mode is horrible. Way too much bass, and the mid-range is altered.

I would recommend that you NOT buy this unit since it costs $200 CDN regular, and the new round Sony units are coming out soon with better shock protection and longer battery life. If you can't wait, go for a Panasonic model, the $130 SX270, the thin SX510, or the radio tuner SX469 $229. (All Canadian Prices)

Strength:

Excellent remote, accessories (NI-MH batteries are sweet)and the case which kept the unit from getting damaged

Weakness:

as reviewers said before MAD SKIPPING, my personal opinion ESP2 sucked big time, you alsways had to hold it from skipping!!

Well pretty said it all, still a disappointing product for sony but it still fulfills the daily needs, just don't start doing any big movement then it'll be just fine.

panasonic sl-510 much better for skipping but sucky remote
sone EJ-915 MUCH better but needs to improve on battery life at that price level.
Sony EJ-611 excellent for the price

Strength:

handsomely slim design, remote, sound, battery life

Weakness:

none

I've used it for about 6 months now and I'm totally satisfied with the performance. Mine's in soothing, classy blue. Love it.

Remote both functions and looks great. Backglow's a plus.

Sounds perfect. At least my ears can't tell if there're any impurities. I also bought a pair of Sony MDR-160 headphones and the bass (in Groove, especially) is comfortably powerful. For music with extra heavy bass, tho' (such as R&B), Groove mode would distort the sound. Set it one level back and you'll be enjoying like no others.

I've tested it with jerks and there's no skipping whatsoever. If I have to complain about anything, there was a slight glitch once when I was just sitting there, but that was it (I doubt it was my CD 'cos I take perfect care of all my property).

It's definitely worth the money. A five star product.

Strength:

Very slim and compact

Weakness:

Skips too much for what it promises and what you pay it

I had it for one year and after the fist week I noticed its continueos skipping and sizzling while gently walking. Sent it twice at the store and one at sony headquarters:they looked at it and sent it back with no difference askink me 10$ though it was in warranty. This gear is certainly not projected around a person but around several standard antishock tests that can't simulate complexity of human body movements. It surly doesn't keep the promise of "no skip while walking" but the price is up to the hype. Digital exit for recording, nice remote control with built in light and very good sound overall(when not skipping).
Better off with a traditional 40 sec that at least delivers what it is promising. I will never buy sony audio equipment till I die.
