    Weakness:

died after one day, poor XP web support

Disappointing x-mas present for my son. An error message indicated to upgrade the PlayStation2 software to ver 2.5. Unfortunately the documented web site didn’t have it for Windows-XP. I eventually found it at another website (but not under XP) and it worked great for a day. Unfortunately it stopped recognizing music files and no longer plays. The Creative web support and FAQs are lacking.

    Strength:

This is my first MP3 player so I can only compare it to CD's. It's very compact. It doesn't skip. The software that came with it is user friendly. Sound quality is very good. Batteries aren't eaten alive.

    Weakness:

I wish it held more songs. The ability to upgrade with smart media cards nearly does away with this weakness but even 160 megs seems limmited. This could be a self inflicted problem.

Overall, I love it. I have the NOMAD IIc It's perfect for snowboarding when I clear a 30 ft gap, land on my face and the song doesn't skip an inch. This is the only reason I wanted one. I use the Labtec GO-230 ear phones with the ear-hooks. The sound is great, its more then loud enough and the phones don't dismount when I'm landing on said face. I have yet to try it when free riding my mountain bike but I expect the same results. The player is easy to use and navigate, as is the software. The price is right. I received it as a christmas gift but I've priced them at several sites and it beats many of the competitor products. My only wish is that it held more songs. I recommend it to anyone who asks about it.

    Strength:

Tons of memory (256MB), built in tuner, recording capabilities. Excellent design and compatibility with Macintoshes. User replaceable NiMH batteries. Extra expansion capability with SSFDC cards. Long battery life.

    Weakness:

Lousy headphones. Needs to be cheaper: but compared to initial release price of $799, I can't complain.

Excellent device. Buttons difficult to operate when inside slip case, but that is to be expected. I got good at guessing the locations of the buttons when in the sleeve and can operate the device with almost 100% accuracy. I really like the LCD display and backlight. This device has replaced my portable MD player for portable music. Sony's ATRAC 4 on MiniDisc is still superior to the mp3 format at 128bits, so I still use the MD on my system at home. The supplied headphones stink.

A Christmas present for my wife - Bah Humbug!

New in factory-sealed box. Worked fine for one hour -- just long enough to set the Clock and FM radio stations, while loading the software from CDs. Suddenly died -- the backlight just flickers. Telephone Tech Support suggested a few maneuvers that failed.

Creative certainly isn't anxious to accept the unit for repair or replacement. They're passing the buck to the Seller, and implying that they may not honor the Warranty because I didn't purchase directly from an Authorized Dealer.

Note: Price included two (2) 64MB Flash Memory Cards.

    Strength:

easy to rip songs to,compact, records radio,USB connect, nice docking unit

    Weakness:

    generic headphones,useless carrying case,cheap construction

Well I bought this unit for my wife for Christmas because I have a Nomad that she bought for me a couple of years ago and it's been a real reliable unit except now I'm having trouble downloading any songs to it because it uses the parallel port...anyway It seems like the build quality has gone down hill...cheapy buttons,no cover over the media card slot and no coil springs in the battery compartment(I had to put a spring in there because one of the clips broke already!!!). The headphone's are the one piece folding kind with a straight plug(I like the angled plugs better). The buttons on the side are hard to feel in your pocket. Overall this unit seems a little pricey since the build quality compared to my old one has gone way down.

    Strength:

Great sound, light weight, compact, USB connection, voice recording, FM radio

    Weakness:

    No built in MB

Simply a nice mp3 player. Got it from Buy.com for $157 (this includes shipping charge) and came with a removable 64 MB flash memory card, wrap around headphones, a clip-on wired remote and a USB connector cable. Really convenient for working out, running, etc. since it's skip free and compact. Has FM radio, but the reception is a little sketchy. I guess you should also be careful about sweating all over it since it's not water resistant!!! Overall, great deal.

    Strength:

Good sound when you replace the headphones lot's of storage.

    Weakness:

    The worst design and headphones

I bought this MP3 player for abour 250.00, doing research I was looking for base storage 32mb and future growth. In these catagories I must admit it's a nice unit.

That's where it ends though. Now the MGII has the worst design, no belt clip, buttons right where you would hold it. Your at the gym running next thing you hit the erase button. Who the hell puts an erase button right next to the forward and reverse? For a company who owns Cambridge Soundworks one would think that that they would throw in a decent set of headphones. The ones you get are so bad I swear they cost around a dollar.

I can't express my dissapointment for the money. Creative Labs need to go back to the drawing board.

    Strength:

Great Sound, FM Radio, Built in 64MB internal memory, small, sleek, magnesium casing, respectable company.

    Weakness:

Headphones that come with are crap, software is just OK, no wired remote, will burn a hole in your pocket.

This is more than likely the best MP3 player out on the market. It has 64MB built in memory, and the sound reception from the MP3 files is very good. The quality is good when you use better headphones, the headphones that come with it are truly crap. I use a pair of Sony MDR-CD580's, and the headphones do make quite a difference. Think of it this way, you have a great amplifier, hooked up with a nice preamplifier, but you have crappy speakers. Same issue for the MG. When I first bought this my docking station didn't seem to work, so I contacted Creative Labs, and to my dismay I found out I only have a 90 day warranty on this thing. Asides from that they don't have an extended warranty plan. Well after a little while my docking station seemed to work, and now it's working fine, I guess it was the batteries or something, I don't know. Well anyways, I highly recommend this player to anyone who wants good high quality sound, along with a cool, good looking player. I actually like the button placement, I have still not deleted the file, and don't believe the people who say that you just hit erase and the file gets deleted that's wrong, a confirmation screen comes up, asking you if you still want to delete the file, the leather case could've been better, but I'm used to it by now, that's because I have the buttons memorized. You really need to have em' memorized in order to use the player in the case anyways. They should've included streety style phones, and a wired remote, other than that this is a great player. The player shipping and the phones ran me $320.25. $15.25 for shipping, player retailed at the store for $300, negotiated down to $245, headphones retailed for $80 at the store, brought them down to $60, hehehe not so bad of a deal eh? Yeah I thought so... any questions comments e mail me at JCBoY56@aol.com

    Weakness:

Remote is cranky to say the least. Bad case design.

This is a great sounding portable player - user friendly software and quick ripping of CDs. FM works a treat too. Supplied ear phones are not great - get the Sony's top of the line for some serious bass and surround.

But if you are thinking of using it for the gym, this is not for you. I went back to the shop to change my remote control 3 times wondering each time why it just stopped working as soon as I start working out in the gym. The clip with the remote is not easy to use to attach the remote. When clipped on to your T-shirt the remote inevitably comes into contact with moist clothing. It doesn't take much (or long) before the MP3 player's volume goes up and down and then does not respond to any of the remote's buttons! You have to yank out the battery to stop the player. Sometimes it simply refuses to turn on. Period. I now wrap clingfilm onto the remote to stop moisture from getting near it - seems to have solved the problem but I have to run with the remote tucked inside my t-shirt as there is no easy way of attaching the remote to stop it from swinging. Not cool.... The case that comes with the player has no opening to get to the control buttons - hello?
