Following up on the earlier review, these speakers sound best when placed on solid stands , preferably over 30 inches high. These are
are highly revealing and I would recommend a good quality front end
and preferably a passive preamp along with a power amp to complete the system.
The speakers should be biwired and preferably with decent cables.
The speakers are highly recommended for small listening rooms but in larger rooms
and at realistic spls, dynamic compression sets in. The bass also becomes
muddy, due to the cabinet colorations.
They are a killer product at the price level

The B&W DM601 should be on any $400 shortlist. Generally, it delivers a verysmooth and clear highs; although the bass doesn't go very deep, it is tuneful
and clean. The most impression thing for me is the accuracy, musical and dynamic in the midband, it sounds natural and rich, but not overly warm. It is a truely all arounder, from rock to classical, for the money. The only little problem for
this speaker is that the midlow area sounds a little too rich. Otherwise, this is a truely strong speaker for the money. Finally, I found that the best speaker
cable for the DM601 is the Nordost Flatline Gold speaker cable($119/10ft pair).
Other than the Flatline Gold, also check out the Transparent Musichord speaker
cable($110/8ft pair). Also try to biwire to the speaker, it sounds much better
than singal wire.

These speakers are the finest that I have ever heard for $400, and would venture to say that they are better than many monitors at twice, or even three times the price. They are clean with a wonderful full midrange and an incredibly accurate tweeter. I believe that to hear their true nature, they MUST be bi-wired. I tried them both ways and I have to say that their performance improved 3 fold through bi-wiring. They lack a little in the bass, but that can all be solved with a sub-woofer. I have found that they sound the best with a solid pair of stands at least a meter from the ground and a meter from the wall. If you are looking for a pair of bookshelf monitors in this price range or up to $1500, I really suggest giving these gems a good listen.

I gotta admit that these speakers are a great value for the price (although they cost $600.- here). They have an excellent high and mid frecuency response but lack a bit of bass extension. They have a great image and superb frecuency separation, which makes it's sound clear and bright. The lower end response can be solved with a decent sub-woofer. In my opinion, they are better than other speakers more expensive (several KEF's, AR, JBL or Paradigm), but if I consider price/performance, i guess the DM 302 model wins.

I think buying a pair of these was one of the best decisions I have made in buying stuf for my apartment. The speakers are sharp, crystal clear and handles bass very good. Hook it up with good cables and you can enjoy sweet sounding music. It not very expensive also. At 400$ a pair they make an excellent but for people who would like to have a good sounding system at a budget price. Coupled with their award winning CC6 center channel it makes on awesome home theater.I woule definitely advise anybody to go and listen to the speakers b4 you buy any.

Strength:

Nice midrange, deep bass

Weakness:

Poor cabinet build, lacks detail

OK speaker overall. The NHT SuperOne blows the 601 away though. The SuperOne has superior in every aspect: bass, resolution, build quality, and neutrality.

I have just recently purchased the 601's and am very happy with them. The sound that comes from such small speakers is just simply amazing. It is really a pleasure to listen to music on it. As far as HT it does a decent job but add to it a good sub and center speaker, and you have yourself a good set up.
I can highly recommend these speakers to anyone that is searching in the $400 dollar range. I have auditioned Polk, PSB, Klipsch, Cerwin Vega, and many of the bottom line speakers such as Technics, JVC and the such. The last was the BW's and that was all it took. I was hooked and sold on them.

For the price, they are worth it.

I have my 601s for almost two years. They sound great in any music I listen, except in classical. For this price it is the best loudspeaker.I would advide to bi-wire with good cables.Maybe only they are not enough warm
for my taste, but everything else is just great.

I was shopping for a speaker to replace my Celestion SL-6s, and these baby's were it. Excellent imaging, the vocals are absolutely fabulous. I am currently pairing them with a Paradigm PS-1000 subwoofer.
They need good metal stands, and good electronics to sound their best.

The DM601's are without a doubt the best under $600/pr speaker available. While most people are mating this speaker with small intergrated amps, I
feel this is a great disservice to the speaker. They perform a great deal better with a dedicated power amp (I have yet to try bi-amping). They image great and sound superb with vocal music.
RECOMMENDED LISTENING: Bob Dylan,"Saved" (LP); Counting Crows, "Recovering The Satellites" (LP); Starcastle (Self-titled LP); Savatage, "The Voyage of Magellan (UK import CD); Saga, "Second Knight" (LP); Genesis,"Archives Vol.1" (CD); Soundtrack: "Conan The Barbarian" (LP).
Associated Equipment: Rega Planar 2 TT/Grado ZF3E+, Rotel RCD930AX CDP, Adcom GTP400 preamp/535 Mk II amp, MIT T2 intercon, Nordost Super Flatline Spkr cable.
