Strength:

Great sounding bookshelf speaker. I feel I got great value for the money

Weakness:

Small "sweet spot" Bass response depends a lot on room saze and shape

This is the first set of speakers I have owned and I feel that for the money I got a great deal. I don't have the room for large floor standers, but these speakers sound just as good. The treble and midrange sound great, even better when bi-wired.(at least I think so) The bass response is goot for the size of the speakers but where the sitting position is and the size of the room make a big difference. When I first got these I had them on end tables but I now have them on stands but I did not hear that much of a difference. These speakers can get rather loud with minimal distortion that I can hear. Also they look cool. Overall I feel that of all my componants these were the best value for the money. The Infinity reference 3's are my brothers and are much older than the B&Ws. They sound good as well but they are three way speakers and a little bigger.

Ok, first thing: I hate home theater. I DO, though, have a DVD player, but prefer stereo to that S.U.X Dubbly Surround-your-head in reverb crap.
I've had the 602's for a little over a year now, and have wanted to up-grade, but decided that these things give so much darn bang for yer buck, that it's just better to up-grade the interconnects. So, that's what I did...an amazing difference! I went for Nordost Black Knight cables, one pair running from my Acrus 80 wat Amp to my B&K Pre, the other pair running from my Cambridge Audio CD6 to the pre. Kimber wire running from the amp to the speaks.

Ok...musically...the interconnects really helped out in spacial dynamics, air and image...These speakers are capable of producing AMAZING cymbal, bell, and guitar sounds, provided you have the right cables...the low frequencys have become tighter and MUCH more defined. I'm a listener of all kinds of music, but for definition, check out Radiohead's OK Computer...with crap interconncets you're just going to hear bass thumping, but with a decent pair, the 602s are capable of producing much more defined and articulate plucking.

On drum n' bass...PRAY your neighbors aren't home.

These speakers rock...If you have them, and they just aren't getting the job done, I can't stress enought how important the interconnects are. If you're thinking about getting these speakers: don't even think, just buy. There's a ton of upgrade potential here...they'll rock out and produce some pretty impressively realistic sounds.

On the "home theater" tip. I have no Idea. I only have 2 ears, not 5.1. Run your DVD player in stereo and crank it up...these speakers can handle pretty decent volume on any film sequence depicting the wholsale destruction of New York city...Once again...pitty the neighbors.

the only speakers I'd even consider next to these are the Medowlark Kestral's...but that's a completely different monster.

I've owned a pair of 602's for a couple of years and they suit me perfectly. I listen mainly to classical and acoustic jazz--rock more rarely. I don't have them hooked up to a sub-woofer, and the bass is really good down to about the bottom of a cello's range, after that less so. I have them on a pair of tilt-up stands, which is probably not sonically ideal but is for me important from the marital point of view (my wife wants the speakers as visually unobtrusive as possible). You can call these bookshelf speakers, but you certainly shouldn't mount them on one. Given an option, get them well out from the wall.
When I auditioned speakers in the price range, these were clearly the pick for me. Reading the reviews here, I would audition NHT 1.5's and Epos very carefully if I had the chance and was in the market for new speakers. Which I'm not.

Strength:

Clear crisp top end, well defined punch at the bottom, booming mid range sound

Weakness:

none. Not the big thundering bass of the bigger models but there is enough to keep most audiophiles chirping

These speakers are deluxe. The sound is crisp and clear, no distortion no matter vhow much I crank up the Harmon Kardon amp (120w). The sound gave my wife goosebumps on the first day that I brought them home. By far the best value speaker that money can buy. Forget the little Bose cubes, these speakers are for the big boys.... leave the toys at toy store!

Strength:

PHENOMINAL BASS, CLEAR and crisp treble, no distortion

Weakness:

Very bad for people with weak hearts

Wow. I live just down the road from the home of B&W, in Worthing, UK. I had the opportunity to listen to several different speakers in their studio including the 601's and the 603's on a £3000. CD player no less! Well, the 602's were the best sounding of the lot, and BY A LOT. The impact the bass has on you is winding, but it doesn't dominate the rest of the sound. I had a kenwood subwoofer before I bought my 602's, and once I had them I couldn't even tell when the sub was turned on or not. The 602's may seem smallish, but the sound is HUGE. In fact, I made the glass loose above my bedroom door by playing a bit too loud. Make sure you have a very good amp. I had a Pioneer receiver flashy light thingy with them at first, but when I upgraded to a control amp & power amp from Cambridge Audio (original stuff), it opened up a whole new acoustic dimension. I also invested in very good speaker wire from Qudos, and bi-wired them, and I got good interconnects. The result was OUTSTANDING. The 602's deserve the best, give them the best and they'll give you the best. Further to that, the price is unbelievable, and in fact irrelevant. I would have paid whatever they asked for them, but they only asked £360 or so. By the way, make sure you position them well... on a very solid base/stand is best, and away from walls etc.

On top of that, they look incredible, although I think the second series of the 602's that are out now have a cheapy looking tweeter, but believe me, they sound just as good. I recommend them with all my being!

If you want to cause structural damage to your house, play Madonna "Skin" from her Ray of light album. (but take cover first!)

I really don't think you can do any better for your money when it come to the B&W 602's. I did carefull comparitive shopping and found these speakers to have the most natural and clear open sound af anything in this price range. You can't go wrong with B&W.
