I recently buy a pair of B&W's 602 with a Yamaha RX-990 and a Yamaha CDC-755. I also auditioned other speakers like Infinity's Reference Series, Paradigm's Monitor 5 and Studio 20. Of all these speakers the Infinitys were the worst sounding. The paradigm Monitor 5 were good speakers, with great sound and good imaging, and the Studio 20 sounded very clear. But, compared with the B&W's they sounded, how I say, less rich. The B&W's were more clear with the midrange frequencies than the Studio 20 and far better than the others. I only notice that the bass is a little tight, but match them with a good subwoofer and you will have a great system. If you are looking for a VERY GOOD speaker, for the price ($550) there is no rival.

I recently purchased a pair of DM 602 speakers and I highly recommend them. Although I was initially interested in floor-standing speakers, budget and space were important factors in my decision. These speakers have a great presence in my apartment. They image musical highs and midrange sounds incredibly well for any genre of music. Bass response and low frequency sounds could be more clear and accurate (especially when listening to classical music), but this is a trade-off expected from a smaller speaker. I enjoy listening to alternative, R&B, and classical music. For those interested in home theatre, I believe the DM 602's make great fronts.
I currently have my speakers biwired with Audioquest type IV speaker wire to a Harmon-Kardon AVR 25mkII receiver, and I am interested in replacing my old JVC CD player with a Marantz or H-K changer. If you buy these speakers, I suggest biwiring them to your amplifier; it really does make a difference!

I am extremely satisfied with my purchase, and I recommend these 2-way speakers for anyone seeking great sounding speakers for a reasonable price.

I own a pair of B&W's with a H/K reciever (going out the door ASAP) H/K CD changer (Adding a DA converter ASAP). Wireworld Cable (AWESOME) Tara Labs Speaker wire (No Comment). Anyways, these speakers are no good without heavy stands, or do like me, put them on nightstands and put about 60 lbs of weights in them. They have awesome midrange, but the aluminum tweeter make them a little harsh at times...maybe match them with a tube amp or DA converter?

I have been trying to like the 602's for a number week's but I just can't find myself warming to them. These are a fine speaker for the money with adequately clear high's (not the greatest extension) and a good musical midrange. I find the bass to be thick and wooly, with somewhat poor definition. This could be caused by some cabinet resonance. I can see how people would like them in this price range, the soft, laid-back sound would work well with equipment in the same range; Rotel, NAD, etc. They also tend to get a little harsh when driven hard. Good 24" stands are recommended. Even with bi-wiring and good stands placed well out into the listening room, I could not get the speakers to open up or improve the balance. Soundstaging is also weak, and poorly defined. These speakers are just OK for music, and probably good in a home theater set-up (I have heard them in a Home theater set-up and they did sound pretty good). For me, I'll spend the extra money and go for the CDM1 which has a tighter more tuneful bass, liquid mid's and smooth top end extension.

I have been in the market for new speakers for my home for a while, and since I was getting 1300.00 from the state of alaska this year(alaska permanent funddividend) I thought the time was ripe to start auditioning speakers. Keep in mind that 1300 to 1500 hundred was my budget limit to spend. So what i really
was after was the most bang for my bucks. Also remember that everyone has their own opinion about what they like or dislike.

At first I was disappointed in the speaker selection available in town (only two stores in town carry hi end products) other than the department stores.
The speakers that I checked out were the Paradigm Reference Series,
Definitive Technology BP Series, Snell(nice but too expensive), Klipsch(floor standing type), NHT Super Ones ,Boston Acoustics Micro 90, Bose AM5,7,10 and of
course the B&W 600 series. All the speakers were auditioned with and without the use of a subwoofer(M&K and Velodyne).
I spent anywhere from 10 to 30 to 60 or more minutes listening to all of the brands listed above over the course of about a month. At first i listened to the
floor standing or tower speakers, then worked my way down to the smaller speakers. After a while it became clear to me that the best setup (for my purposes)was a subwoofer and a pair of smaller or bookshelf speakers. Very soon it became obvious that i would be buying either the Paradigm Studio 20,s or the B&W 602's with a subwoofer. Both speakers sound excellent, but the 602's just seemed a notch or two above the Studio 20,s. Without going into imaging, staging , transparancy and all that, suffice it to say that the 602's sounded better than the Studio 20's with or without a sub. At 550.00 list price their also 150.00 cheaper than the Paradigms. Which means that I can spend more on a subwoofer!
Anyway anyone looking for a great sounding inexspensive speaker should have to look no further than the B&W 602's..... but hey thats my opinion!(but I'm not the only one to think so!)

Strength:

Stunning bass, highs

Weakness:

At $450/pair - none

Using the DM602s as my front channel
speakers. Driven by an Onkyo 535 receiver.

These speakers sound better than the Klipsch
4.5s and reproduce better bass! And I had the
B&Ws sitting on the floor!

I honestly cannot believe that these speakers
can fill a room of approx 800/sq feet with so
much bass.

Mids are ok and highs are exceptional.

Under $1000, you will be hard pressed to find
a better speaker.

Strength:

Great range of sound, great value

Weakness:

can't think of any

I bought thesse to replace a pair of BOSE bookshelfs that got stolen and I am almost happy that I got robbed. These speakers sound amazing with almost every type of music. I listen to everything and I have yet to find music that doesn't sound good. I would definatly recommend matching a sub with them because it just makes the sound that much better. Movies are great too. The sound is crisp and lifelike, the way it has to be. For the price, I have yet to find anything better.

I have listened to these speakers at a local store and I want to purchase them. But in Canada the prices are too high.
I would like to know where could I buy them online at a discount. I have been looking but can't find any sites. Please email me if you know of any.
Thank You

Strength:

This transducer has the ability to clealy reproduce critical midrange frequencies

Weakness:

When pushed excessively, the sound becomes fatiguing so ease off the volume

I received these wonderful speakers two years ago on Christmas Day here in the states. Right out of the box, the sound was typical B&W - namely sweet, clean and richly defined. I do believe that to obtain the best sound bi-wiring is needed to obtain as well as an ample break in time. I listen to contemporary jazz quite often and Brian Culbertson's CD "Somethin 'bout love" brings out the best in these speakers in my humble opinion. Then again listening to Carlos Santana's Supernatural brings out the old foot tapp'in. To sum, just slip a favorite CD,Tape,or LP in, sit back and let the B&W 602 monitors take you for a ride. B&W really lives up to their motto "Listen and you will see". The alphas are less revealing and emotionally unenvolving for me but their tweeter is a little less critical and more forgiving on bad recordings than the B&W.

For a matching subwoofer, I would recommend doing a comparison between the ASW 1000 or 2000 and the Velodyne HGS 10 or 12. You may like the Velodynes better. The velodyne's have wonderful pitch definition and their bass extension is legendary. Plunging to 20 hertz and below at over 100 decibels. I highly recommend them. If you have any disposable income compare the Velodyne HGS-18, the MK-MX5000,and the B&W ASW-4000!
