Strength:

That B & W sound. The all critical midrange sweetest midrange drivers in the business

Weakness:

Its not as airy as a $2500 pr. Damn the bad luck

TO BE ABLE TO HAVE THAT B & W SOUND IN YOUR OWN HOME,FOR LESS THAN $600.00
IS AN ABSOLUTE STEAL.
B & W MANUFACTURES THEIR OWN DRIVERS.
THESE DRIVERS / BUILD QUALITY
ARE THE REASON B & W IS PROBABLY
THE MOST SUCCESFUL SPEAKER MANUFACTURER
IN THE WORLD.
THESE SPEAKERS DESERVE THE VERY BEST ELECTRONICS YOU CAN AFFORD.
WITH A RECIEVER THEY WILL SOUND GREAT.
WITH A SEPARATES BASED SYSTEM THEY WILL
SOUND ABSOLUTLY AMAZING.I WENT FROM SHERWOOD RECIEVER TO A LEXICON DC1 PRE/PRO
JUST ADDED AN ANTHEM 5 CH. AMP. AMAZING!
IF THESE ARE IN YOUR PRICE RANGE,BUY THEM!
THANK YOU B & W !!!!!!!!!

Strength:

MIDS, HIGHS, ACCURACY, PRICE, SIZE, SOUND!!!!!!!!!

Weakness:

BASS, SMALLISH SOUND STAGE

I HEARD THESE AT A HIGH END SHOP THAT MY BROTHER JUST BOUGHT A PAIR OF P6'S FROM.THEY ORIGINALLY HAD A PAIR OF PSB STRATUS GOLDS HOOKED UP TO A THETA AMP.AS I WAITED FOR HELP, I LISTENED TO THESE FOR A WHILE (WOW WHAT A SOUND-GREAT BASS-FULL SOUND).THEY WERE A LITTLE OUT OF MY RANGE SO I CHECKED OUT WHAT THEY HAD IN THE $1000 PRICE POINT.THE OWNER THEN PROCEEDED TO STEER ME TOWARDS THE 600 SERIES (HE FELT THAT THEY SOUNDED BETTER FOR THAT PRICE POINT).AFTER BRIEFLY LISTENING TO ALL THE 600'S,I WAS STARTING TO LEAN TOWARDS THE 603'S(MAINLY BECAUSE I LIKED TOWERS OVER BOOKSHELFS).AS I WAS CONTEMPLATING WHAT TO DO WITH THE OWNER,I INFORMED HIM THAT I ALREADY HAD AN EXTERNAL SUBWOOFER.HE THEN IMMEDIETLY HAD ME LISTEN TO THE PSB'S AGAIN TO PROGRAM IN MY MIND TO WHAT GOOD SOUND SOUNDED LIKE, THEN IMMEDIATLY HE HOOKED UP A PAIR OF 602'S(WITHOUT A SUB).HE HAD ME SOLD RIGHT THEN AND THERE.I DIDN'T WANT THE LEAVE THE ROOM,I COULDN'T GET ENOUGH.THE OWNER THEN LET ME LISTEN TO THE 603'S-TO ME THEY DIDN'T SOUND AS ACCURATE BECAUSE OF THE PASSIVE DRIVER AND LARGER BOX (THE OWNER TOTALLY AGREED-ITS NICE TO KNOW THAT HE JUST DIDN'T WANT TO SELL THE MORE EXPENSIVE MODEL 603, AND LISTENED TO MY SITUATION AND SET UP).

I DON'T UNDERSTAND WHY PEOPLE CONTINUE TO "RIP" ON THESE SPEAKERS,BUT AFTER READING OTHER REVIEWS FROM IDIOTS OF SOME OF MY FAVORITE AUDIO EQUIPTMENT,I REALIZE THAT YOU DON'T HAVE TO HAVE A BRAIN TO USE A COMPUTER AND RIP ON EVERYTHING OUT THERE-BECAUSE YOU OWN JUNK.

REMEMBER GARBAGE IN (KENWOOD,PIONEER,SONY,ETC RECIEVERS AND ELECTRONICS)=========GARBAGE OUT!!!!!!!

ALSO I DID A SOUND COMPARISON WITH MY FATHERS EQUIPTMENT (MCINTOSH AMPS,YAMAHA PROCESSOR,PIONEER ELITE LD,PIONEER DVD,ETC) WE COMPARED HIS VANDERSTEEN MODEL 1'S WITH THE 602'S.

THIS IS WHAT WE FOUND;WE LISTENED TO A VARIETY OF CD'S AND CONCERT DVD'S.WHAT WE REALIZED IS THAT BOTH SPEAKERS SOUNDED GREAT BUT COULDN'T REALLY CONCLUDE WHICH ONES SOUNDED "BETTER".EACH SPEAKER HAD ITS STRENGTHS,AND DIFFERENT MUSIC SOUNDED SLIGHTLY BETTER ON DIFFERENT SPEAKERS.603S=BETTER MIDS AND (POSSIBLY) HIGHS.MODEL 1'S=BETTER BASS,SLIGHTLY SMOOTHER,AND BIGGER SOUND STAGE.NEEDLESS TO SAY,602'S ARE SUCH A GOOD PRICE THAT MY DAD HAD TO GET A PAIR FOR HIS "OTHER SYSTEM" AND KEEPS THINKING THAT MAYBE HE SHOULD PUT THEM IN HIS "MAIN SYSTEM".

I GIVE THEM 4 STARS BECAUSE I KNOW THAT THERE ARE BETTER SPEAKERS OUT THERE(FOR A LOT MORE MONEY) BUT 5 STARS FOR THE PERFORMANCE/PRICE.

MY EQUIPT;
YAMAHA RX-793 (USED AS A PRE/PRO ONLY-NO AMPLIFICATION)
NAD 214 AMP TO MAINS (603)
ROTEL 976 AMP BRIDGED TO 150W/CHANNEL(3) TO 601 SURROUNDS AND CC3 CENTER
YAMAHA CD-2
TOSHIBA 5107 DVD
AUDIO QUEST AND MIT CABLES AND WIRE
AUDIO PRO SUBWOOFER

I HAVEN'T TRIED TO BI-WIRE THEM YET, THAT IS MY NEXT STEP OR EVEN BI-AMP THEM (I HEARD THAT IF I DO ONE OF THESE, IT WILL IMPROVE THE SOUND EVEN MORE)

P.S.I FIGURED OUT WHY SOME PEOPLE DON'T LIKE THE SOUND OF THESE-THEY ARE THE TYPE WHO GO TO THE BIG BOX STORE AND LISTEN TO THE SPEAKERS THERE-AND IF YOU LOOK AT ONE OF THE RECIEVERS THAT THEIR SPEAKERS ARE HOOKED UP TO-THE BASS IS TURNED UP WITH THE "BASS EXTENSION" BUTTON ON, AND THE TREBLE TURNED UP.SO THEY HEAR THESE SPEAKERS AT A HIGH END SHOP WITH A HIGH END AMP AND IT SOUNDS LIKE IT HAS NO BASS OR HIGHS.THATS BECAUSE THEY HAVE A FLAT FREQ RESPONSE LIKE GOOD SPEAKERS ARE SUPPOSED TO.

CONTRARY TO POPULAR BELIEF-GOOD SOUND IS NOT THE LOWERED CIVIC DRIVING DOWN THE STREET WITH 4 12" WOOFERS BOOMING- LOOKING (AND SOUNDING)LIKE A DORK.

Strength:

Tonal balance, soundstaging

Weakness:

Dynamics, Low End Extension

Having lived with these speakers for three years, I consider myself relatively familiar with them. I can not say I love these speakers, but I am satisfied with them. I have begun auditioning for a somewhat more ambitious system, and so have had a chance to compare these to many speakers recently.
For under $1000, these are still my favorite speakers, of course that may be only because I am familiar with them, but I don't think so. Other comparably priced speakers can go lower, or image a little better, but always at the expense of the all around sound. Overall, these speakers provided me with the best prolonged listening experience under $1000

Paradigm Studio 20, Energy(something), Vandersteen 1s, Dynaudio 40.

Strength:

GOOD LOWS BEST HIGHS do you need more ???

Weakness:

you must be kidding me

This is not a speaker, this is a Digital Monitor !!!!
Before I bought this B&W's I did a lot of research for
my dream system. Thanks to this site you can make a honest
decision.

Because I'm still a student I couldn't afford a the best.
So what can you do? Well I bought a SONY-STR930 reciever
and a SONY-725DVD drive. That was resonably easy. Then how do choose your speakers ??? I found out that if your looking for a good set of speaker in 500$ price range that the choses are overwhelming. Because I'm a QUALITY FREAK I wanted the best set of speakers for my sonyset without overcompensating the speaker.

I've had to make a decision between the 603's but the 602 won. Why ??? Because I find the 603's to big. I live in a small appartment 15x15ft the 603 just won't fit in. Also here in Holland the 603's are twice as expensive. My only concern was: Can the 602's produce enough bass to make my coffeecup bounch ? WELL IT CAN Still I want to complete my system with a sub. Maybe the ASW-500/1000/2000. Maybee someone can help me with this decision ???

For conventional cd-playing the 602's rule. The sound is so complete that all my doubts just disappeared.
For DOLBY-DIGITAL it's very good But like I wrote earlier for that hardcore bass you still need a sub.

OVERALL, I think this is the best speaker for everyone who likes good quality sound. It's build very precise especialy the KEVLAR woofer. This looks really classy.

If you still have doubts stop looking because the 602's got it all. THEY WILL MAKE YOUR ROOM GO BOOM

It is interesting to compare the 302 with the 602. The 602 have a lot more sound, you hear much more than you get from the 302 especially in the bass department BUT the quality of the sound is noticeably inferior. Mid range muddle and grain ! If you listen to rock it won't bother you too much, if you listen to chamber music, get the 302 (3 star)and save some money. Better yet spend a bit more and get the Paradigm Studio 20 (4 star). Note the mid range nastiness of the 602 can be reduced to some extent by a good amp, but I think the money is better spent on better speakers

Great speakers for who's looking for natural and realistic midband. Mid-woofer in kevlar is the best driver you can achieve in this price range; tweeter not so good in the high-range, there are better metal domes. Bass is linear, not boomy and deep. This speaker is superb for classic and jazz music, pop-rock listeners need more involving tonal balance.A super safe buy from B&W.
