Strength:

attractive, smooth, efficient, affordable.

Weakness:

placement is crucial. don''t put them on a bookshelf! invest in some stands, and they''ll blow you away for what little you shell out for them.

I don''t understand why there''s so much criticism of this speaker. I used it for 2 years and got much more than I expected.

Strength:

the highs were crisp

Weakness:

there wasn't much bass

at first I thought they had great sound but later I wanted more bass. So I would recomend you also get a sub woofer with them. I like the size because my room is small. But now I probably would have gotten better speakers.

Got these when I first bought my reciever and DVD player. They were decent, they got the job done, but that was about it. They were my mains, but are now delegated to my rears until I can afford to replace them entirely. Don't Believe what salesmen at Future Shop tell you, they suck.

Strength:

sounds just as good or better then speakers in it's price range

Weakness:

build quality appears to be poorer than models manufactured 2-3 years ago

Just the other day I was able to compare this speaker to others in it's price range at a Fry's store. The Bose room was no different looking than the other listening rooms. In the other rooms were some Cerwin Vega, KLH, JBL, and a few others. Now I am talking price range, not size, when I compared speakers and the Bose sounded just as good and in some cases better than the others. The Cerwin Vega's were the worst, than KLH. The Bose and JBL' were pretty close. I was not able to compare all these speakers in the same rooms, you have to walk from one room to another, but there was practically noone else around and the salesman left me free to play around. It's time to stop bashing Bose. Every
speaker manufacturer has a model or two that may seem overpriced and are disliked by some. Why pick on Bose? Sure, the AM series of speakers are not the greatest and to some may seem overpriced, but I suspect that people are paying for the convienence of small cubes and a bass module because they have no room for conventional speakers (maybe even small bookshelf speakers). Bose makes inexpensive bookshelf speakers that sound decent. They are not for audiophiles and I don't think Bose meant them to be. Why don't all you Bose bashers start picking on another speaker manufacturer?

midrange

everything but the midrange

Prayer: Oh please, dear God, don't condemn some people to think these speakers are a good deal. You and I know every speaker manufacturer has better small speakers than this and most are lower in price. Before trying to do reflecting sound, one must first master the basics. Please help them!

Don't email me if you disagree- I speak the truth. It's not my fault if you bought these!

Ok, enough is enough. The tweeters may look cheap, the frequency response may suck, and the design may be as old as dirt, but who cares?!? It just makes the sweet sound these speaker reproduce that much more impressive! Other speakers may perform better in specific music genres, but the 201's smooth, rich sound and good imaging makes them an all around great performer. To cap it all off, they only cost $200 bucks! I'm not saying there aren't better speakers on the market, but the 201s certainly don't "suck" as many of the reviews below state. To anyone looking to buy speakers, use your ears..and only your ears, to choose what speaker is right for you. After all, that's what matters isn't it??

Strength:

size, power handling, looks

Weakness:

mids are slightly overpowering for my likings

These speakers sounded ok as ,main speakkers origionally. The only problem I have with them is the mids are a little loud for my taste. These have since been moved to serve as surround speakers on my yamaha dts system and serve this purpose very well. I have driven these speakers hard at times and they have held up very well. II recommend these if you want some inexpensive surrounds but not for main speakers. They also dont handle high base levels but not many bookshelf speakers do.

Strength:

Small size, big sound, wide stage

Weakness:

Low end

Ok, these are small speakers. You want huge sound, shell out for a set of 901's or Energy. Personally, I'm using them for my home theatre surrounds, so I'm not looking for them to rattle my ribs. If you want that, get a sub. I use Bose all around (center, front, and surrounds) primarily for the way at which it doesn't affect where you sit (too badly anyways).

When tuned with a sub (get yourself a noise generator, analyser, and SPL meter), you get a great arrangement for movies. Personally, I'm going to purchase a second set of speakers in the future for music only, but you really can't beat the price and general performance for a home theatre setup. If you want to be pickey, you can harp on the fact that they look prettier than they sound, but try and find another set of bookshelfs that perform as well in that price range and you'll be hard-pressed.

As with most bose products, you either like 'em or hate 'em.

These are great speakers! If you want something clear and sounds good buy these. They are clear, good value, durable and a great size. I recomend them more for people looking to listen to music than home theater but they work well with a sub to compliment them.

Everyone looking for pure bass shouldn't look at these so don't think they are bad because they didn't vibrate some bass heads chair seat. All these people complain, but it doesn't sound like they listened them before they bought them, that's not Bose fault. Bose is spelled " Bose" not "Bass". If you want good speakers buy Bose, if you want pure bass look at something else!
