I have not really used these speakers too much. To tell the truth my friend has them and I listen to them over at his crib. This is just a response to some of the reviews I read about this product. In any case if you are just making a coment please simply rate the speakers or whatever close to the average that is at the top of the page otherwise you skew the rating (don't rate as 1 or 5 stars if you're just making a comment). First off to the comment that they handle 120wpc. Watts aren't really that important. They just tell you if they are adequate for your amplifier or receiver. Don't be brainwashed like those people who repeat wattage. Most speakers (esp in this price range) will sound like crap if you really try to push the upper limit of the watts anyways. I think that it is ridiculous that Bose doesn't rate the sensitivity of their speakers and I'm not sure if they rate the freq range. Also to the guy who talks about stereo sound with the list 1. if you listen to stereo with a sub yata yata yata. If you have bookshelf speakers esp not very expensive ones they can sound great with the proper sub. Most bookshelfs that aren't very expensive (under 500) and some that are a little more expensive have really bad bass response. Setting the crossover on the sub correctly and finding speakers that can reach a decent lower mid level so you don't have that gap inbetween the upper limit of the sub and lower limit of the bookshelfs can make a world of difference. |

Strength:
so cheap for the quality you are getting.
Weakness:
not much range, no real direct/reflect, not very clear high tones, a little boomy at times i love these speakers. they were the first real pair of speakers i have had and they have done a great job. i am in the process of upgrading to the 901's, but i will miss my 2 pairs of bose 201's. great price but the direct/reflect doesn't do much. to get a sound more like a 901, turn one pair backwards and the other forwards. turn down the pair facing forwards and live with them for the 1000 you just saved. |

Great sound I use them as rear channels on my Harman Kardon AVR55 good buy for the money! Lacks alot bass but what do you expect from a 5 1/4" driver these speakers make up for it in the detail area. |

Ok people, let me tell you one thing for those of you who constantly bash bose. Bose makes speakers for people who want to enjoy sound NOT PEOPLE who have 73inch custom made tv's and a maid to clean up their slobber. Sure they are not the best on the planet but my experience has been darn good. My 201's are definetly worth the cheap price. AND for those of you who rip on their bass, thats what a subwoofer is for. For the money the 201/301 is the right choice |

As a musician, I enjoy good sound and good tone is so very important. My living area is fairly small so I looked for speakers that have a good range and excellent tonal quality. For the price, I found the Bose 201's to be an excellent choice. I would suggest that a powered subwoofer be used in conjunction with these speakers, since deeper bass sounds do not come from these speakers. If you enjoy listening to Jazz, Classical, and Musicals/Operas, these speakers make an excellent choice. Take some time on how these speakers are set up in a room - it makes a world of difference. |

I bought the bose 201 series speaker for a couple of reasons. Cost and did not know any better. Bose speaker seem to be the first choice for people like me at the time that did not understand what a quality bookshelf speaker can do. These speakers are very power hungry, and you have to play them loud to get any response out the speaker. Mine our about 6 years old, they have held up well, sound ok until you hear them next to something better of the same size. I listened to B&W 601s, it is truely amazing what i was missing from my CDs. The 201 is truely a entry level speaker. My advice to someone looking for entry level speakers, pay a little more now, because it will be worth it in the long run. Speakers are the most important component in your system. |

The Bose 201's are an overall good speaker. The tweeters appear cheap, but they don't sound that way. Don't hold these to standards they aren't meant for. They're 200 bucks...... not 2000 bucks. I think my Infinity RS1's are made of better materials. Why do people always complain about these BOOKSHELF speakers lacking bass. I havn't heard much more bass from anything else for the same price. If you want lots of bass, by a sub. I own a Velodyne CT-100, it's an excellent subwoofer, and adds a lot to any sound system. |

Strength:
extremely cheap
Weakness:
sounds cheap Bose speakers are not good at producing anything, let alone a clean musical presentation. A lot of people claim, for the money, Bose speakers are very competent. These speakers are not competent when there are speakers like NHT Super Ones, Energy eXL 16s and other good speakers in the market for the same price! Similar Products Used: nothing "similar" |
