Dynaudio Contour 1.3 SE Bookshelf Speakers

Dynaudio Contour 1.3 SE Bookshelf Speakers

DESCRIPTION

The Contour 1.3 SE utilizes specifically engineered and produced drivers. The front plates of the drivers and the rear mounted terminal plate are coated with special titanium-metallic lacquer paint. The woofer is a newly constructed design, utilizing a specially developed, high-impulse voice coil and powerful hybrid (neodymium/ferrite) magnet system. The goal was to achieve incredibly fast and precise bass reproduction, with intense transient behavior. The design creates a well-controlled linear movement of the voice coil, and provides outstanding dynamics and low bass extension, while also reducing distortion. The special tweeter design is incorporating a new, intensely powerful magnet system and advanced chamber tuning.

Strength:

Superb rendering of vocals; wide, deep soundstage with excellent imaging; bass is tight and fast and also quite deep for a bookshelf speaker.

Weakness:

With cheaper amplification, these speakers can sound harsh and forward. There is no trace of harshness, however, when driven with the Plinius 8150 integrated amp, for example.

These are exceptionally good speakers. They produce the most natural sounding vocals of any speaker that I have heard. The highs are very detailed and quite smooth with
the right amplification. The bass is excellent for a small speaker.

The 1.3SEs can be found for significantly less than their list price. My rating of 5 stars for value is for the price that I paid for them. For full retail price, maybe only 3.5 stars for value.

Strength:

Very high detail level.Exellent allround speaker. Can play very loud for it's size.

Weakness:

Really needs the best of equipment.

A great speaker! Used to own a pair of VR-4, but I can honestly say that I don´t miss them that much. The 1.3se got almost everything that I wish for, at least above 100HZ.
The top is smoother, yet more detailed than the VR-4s.
I was most suprised over the 1.3s ability to play loud, because they really can!
The only problem is that you have to combine them with really good equipment to make them sing.
Buy a high-end subwoofer, and you got a fullrange high-end system, that can handle any kind of music. And all that in half the size of an VR-4.
