Strength:
Very neutral. Terrific drivers. Finally, a speaker that costs as much to buy as it does to build (relief for the DIY-guilt). The pulp woofer is fast. The dual concentric diaphragm tweeter is silk engineering at its best, but its complex impedance vs freq profile makes it a very difficult driver to design crossovers for. Bi-wire makes a very noticeable improvement. Terrific imaging that really lets you tune the rest of your system.
Weakness:
Never been a big fan of vented designs, but at least the D430 has its nicely tapered port on the back. Keep them away from corners, and you have a very clean lower midrange. For over a year, had them connected to a minimalistic class-A set-up: a modded Pioneer DV-45A, a resistive attenuator, and a modded Adcom 555-II (old school Velodyne Foundation Series 15" bringing up the rear).
