They actually came out in 1977. I got my pair from Tech-Hifi (12 west 45th st) on Sept. 22, 1978 for $356, still have the receipt! Carried them home to Bay Ridge on the RR train with help from my brother. Nothing like schlepping 35lb. speakers on the NYC subway! I had the surrounds done in the late 90's and they still impress if not annoy the neighbors.
Just wanted to give you some quotes on the Ohm L's. High Fidelity Magazine wrote in April 1978...."Power handling and freedom from distortion are first class....the speaker produces a peak SPL of 113 db from a peak power of just under 686 watts.......the overall sound is solid, yet transparent and detailed, deep bass is tight and well controlled with a sense of ease...to relatively high listening levels......transients are sharp and crisp.......stereo imaging is excellent- to the point where the sound seems almost totally detached from the speakers....OHM appears to have another winner"... I have lots of reviews of the L's and would enjoy sending more. Remember, you can take the kid outta Brooklyn but you can't take Brooklyn outta the kid!?

The OHM Model L is truly a GREAT bookshelf speaker. Don't just take my word for it Here are a few of the many quotes from reputable sources. 1978 High Fidelity Magazine: "Stereo imaging is excellent to the point where the sound seems almost detached from the speakers. Ohm has another winner" 1977 Stereo Review Magazine: The OHM L is a highly accurate reproducer of music... the upper mid-range and high frequencies are absolutely perfect.. meets the critical standards usually applied to much larger and considerably more expensive speakers. 1977 FM guide: "The OHM L's sound is remarkable" 1977 Buyers Guide to Hifi: Highly recommended... the immediate reaction is one of surprise at the openess.. voices are utterly natural with no sense of strain and sound stage is, well shockingly good"
If can find a pair of these smallish bookshelves with original drivers grab them. They are getting harder and harder to find as the many were scrapped due to surround foam rot and failed tweeters(common issue) These were $500 speakers back in 1976 and worth every penny. The woofer is a engineering work of art and very unique in its design. Bass is excellent and at the very most a 1/3 octave lighter than some of the big boys such as the AR3A. Crossover is basic, but OHM designed a wonderful quazi-3rd Order Butterworth with no on-board inductors. Hard to believe that a vintage speaker as good as this is not discussed and reviewed more often. They wipe the floor with much more popular vintage units such as Advent, AR, Dynaco, EPI, KEF, Celestion and are a true contender up against moderns in the $2000-$4000 range These gems are as good as or better my B&W 603's and rival my $4000 Focal's in many aspects.

This is a vintage speaker set built originally in the 1970's. The company is still around and the are refubishing older models with newer drives and cabinet set up's. They do still build a series of speaker called the Walsh line up.
The first thing you notice when checking out these speakers is the weight, They are heavy! My guess is 25lbs each. Then when you hook this things up you notice a soundstage beyond belief ! The separation and presence of these little jems. I have listened to many fine speakers and i would personally prefer these to many more modern speakers. I have personally oned a pair of 2 way technics floorstanding speakrs with 10" woofer "my first set up at 14 years old". Then went to a pair of Paradigm 9semkII the model with silk dome tweeter and 2 8" midbass drivers. I currently own an Adcom gfa-545 amplifier, Adcom gtp-350 passive/analog preamplifier and a Toshiba sd-2109 universal player for my source.
I used these speakers on many different applications playing every cd i owned comparing them to the floorstanding paradigm 9semkII set up that i have had for 10 years now. I found in ever area except one the Ohms out perform the paradigms. I love the sound of the paper cone midrange it reproduces every instrument so precisely leaving little more to be desired. I have to say the pair i currently own is fully upgraded and has an aftermarket tweeter mate by HI VI, bought from a high end mail order company. The original tweeter was replaced prior to my owning of the speakers but i can say i hear the same pair before the tweeter was installed and the metal dome high tweeter made all the difference as ohm's upgraded tweeter is also a paper cone and has a very flat sound. The paradigms do have more of a floor shaking quality but they also have 2 times the surface area for low end and they do not have that much more umph then the ohms! All the upgraded drivers a liquid cooled and well designed to handle modern digital reproduction music. At $595.00 refurbished you can not go wrong these are amazing speakers. I have listened to many fine componets and these would be more comparable to a paradigm reference monitor or a B&W.
In conclusion if you can get you hands on a pair of these speakers for any purpose as main 2 chanel audio or home theater you will be getting a great sound that will last a long time. It is very rare that you find a company that still works with compontes older than 5 years but these were built in the 1970's and they still are today, Right here in America! Some times on e-bay you may run across ohm acoustics line up and i highly recomment reading into them there are some that not only have withstood the test of time but left a major mark in the present with audio reproduction!
