good power, flexible highs, can be placed just about anywhere.
Weakness:
very limited {none} ive had about 5 months of use,and the productivity is astounding.I couldent be more satisfied with the results. #1 te 5inch woofers go a long way with plenty of bass and constant boom #2 mid-range are as sweet as can be with rumbles of far away objects and voices come out smooth, clean, and crisp sound #3 the sound effects are repulsive there sick im amazed at what these speakers are capable of truly the best bookshelf speaker in the market Similar Products Used: cerwin vega, pinnicle, and pioneer elite "but none this good" |

Price/performace
Weakness:
none at this price Already posted a review of these amazingly good speakers (for the price). I did notice what the previous reviwer ahs noticed and that is the bass may sound a little boomy at times. This is easily solved by stuffing the speakers with AcoustaStuff or fiber fill ( it DOES NOT have any fill at all). You do need to run it for a while to make the tweeter settle down a bit. Strength:
Decent sound for next to nothing price.
Weakness:
A bit boomy in the bass, long break in time. I''''m running these speakers off of the ''''B'''' speaker output from the integrated amp in my living room to my bedroom. I have a good system in my bedroom already but don''''t have a turntable or CD-R/W capable CD player in there (nor do I want to add them to that system). I wasn''''t expecting much for $80 a pair, and at first, nearly returned them. They sounded very shrill in the treble region and had boomy bass but since I had 30 days to return them I thought I ought to run ''''em in for a while. It took a few weeks but they do sound much smoother now. The bass is still on the boomy side but they sound good enough for the casual listening I do while getting ready for work, reading, and...um, other activities :-). These are decent speakers but by no means great speakers. My friends'''' Paradigm Atoms and Energy eXLs are much better but also cost more than twice as much. The only other bookshelf speakers I have are older Infinity RS2000.3s and are not a fair comparison at all as they are much bigger and listed for $440 a pair (though I only paid $150/pair). But for $80 these Polks are decent enough. Similar Products Used: Infinity RS2000.3, Energy eXL somethings(?), Paradigm Atoms |

Clear highs, quality construction {biongding posts, not clips}, price
Weakness:
not a lot of bass, but i expected that for the price, these are some of the best speakers I have ever listened to. I was very suprised to see the binding posts instead of speaker clips, and was very impressed with the build quality. Usually in this price range, one doesnt see rubber surrounds on the woofers, but polk came through. i have these hooked up to an old Aiwa shelf system {you know the POS im talking about, duel cassette/3 Cd changer, maybe 15 watts X 2} and they sound great- totally blow the stock ones away. However, in the next couple of weeks i am planning on purchasing a new reciever {sony 845 ....any input email me} and i will be using the R10s for my rear surrounds. I would definelty reccomend these spekers for mains in a small shelf system....and i have a feeling ill be able to recommend them for rears in a HT system. With this price nothing I can say I just hooked up these to my system,I'm useing them as rear speakers and they sound great.I have a pioneer 409 digital surround reciever 100 watt each channel.Polk CS 400i center&wharphadale sapphire87 main and Polk R10 rear speakers. For me this combination is great.Watching DVD's on this system is just unreal, sound is amaizing.I don't think you can go wrong with these speakers. They are good solid build products. Good sound at a great price
Weakness:
At this price? Are you kidding? I got these for $69 for the pair at Good Guys. They work great as surround speakers. I'm using these until I can get the Polk RT25i's (about $200 more). The quality 5 way binding posts are a real plus. They come with cool little soft rubber feet that do a good job of dampening the vibration and keep the bottoms from getting scuffed up. They don't have the Tri-laminate tweeter as the rest of my speakers do (Polk RT800i's and Polk CS245i) but at this price you can't expet the best. It's not too big of a deal for now since the rear speakers receive the least use of all in an HT system. All things considered, they fit into my system pretty nicely. There's no way you could rate these anything less than a definate 5 for value. Compared to all the other dogs you can get at this price, these Polks are definitely the pick of the litter. |

Strength:
Clear midrange, good treble extension, tight bass response
Weakness:
Deep bass (c'mon, it's just a bookshelf speaker), black pebble finish is really cheesey Got these on sale for 40 bucks each, half the MSRP. For the price, these things rule. The first thing I noticed when I used them was the clarity in the midrange with voices. It sounded clear and open, no muddiness at all. The treble is good as well, the silk dome tweeter does really well in the high frequencies without sounding harsh or sharp and gives the sound an almost airy quality. Some may think it's a tad on the bright side, but after it's broken in, the midbass and bass increases and evens things out or they can fiddle with placement more. The bass it can play is nice and tight, not boomy like a lot of speakers are made to be to impress uninformed customers. The only thing this speaker lacks is deep bass response, but it's really hard for a speaker this small to reproduce stuff like that loudly and cleanly. Paired with a good subwoofer or used for surround applications, this shouldn't be a problem. Build quality is good for the price, it's 1/2" MDF covered in micro pebble texured vinyl, very solid and pretty dead. Hook up is through 5 way binding posts with plastic nuts, kinda surprising since speaker of this price range still use spring clips. The drivers are very similar to the stuff used in Polk's RT series, but seem a tad lower in quality (excess beads of glue oozing from the surround on the woofers). For the price, these things deserve 5 stars for it's great performance/cost ratio and excellent customer support. Overall, I give it a 4 because the slightly lower driver build quality and kinda cheap hardware and finish. Similar Products Used: AR 215 PS |
