Tannoy Fusion 1 Bookshelf Speakers

Tannoy Fusion 1 Bookshelf Speakers

    Strength:

Smooth Sound Extremely detailed Great price Well made

    Weakness:

Need a little more bass and treble

The Fusion 1 is a compact bookshelf speaker and as such provides exceptional performance for: - its size - approx 6(W) x 8(D) x 12(H) inches - its Price $275CDN The crossover @2.9kHz is a little different from the Fusion 4's @2.7kHz. I found the mid frequencies on this speaker stood out more than the Fusion 4's - maybe due to the crossover? Because of this, the high freq's are still there but very much in the background (too bad) - this is about the only fault I could find The low frequencies are very good for a 5 inch driver and could probably be enhanced by placing the speaker in a corner I use this model as the effects speakers in my surround system, but recently moved them to my stereo to perform a fair evaluation. What I found was a very nice speaker capable fo producing some very nice music Like the rest of the Fusion line these speakers are very fast and as such, the sound produced may not be what you are used to hearing - i.e. lots of detail that most other speakers lack Albums/Artists reviewed: Sarah Maclachlan - was right there in my living room - fabulaous Nellie Furtado - alas the ultra-low frequencies were left at home, but sounded very good all the same Paul Simon - Graceland - the bass, although detailed, sounded a little boxey - lacked the deepness of Fusion 4's Seal - awesome - even without the deep bass Special EFX - very clean and smooth reproduction of all instruments Accoustic Alchemy - very nice acoustic guitar reproduction The Commitments - This album has a huge sound with crisp drums tight bass, bags of horns and great singers - sounded awesome If you are constrained by either Budget or space then I would recommend these speakers without reservation Otherwise I would suggest going to the Fusion 2, 3 or 4 (all fabulous) They do make a great surround effects speaker for the Fusion line because they are "accoustically matched" and the bass is augmented nicely by the sub-woofer Overall - these are very detailed, quite well balanced speaker for the reproduction of "Music" Do not buy them if you want to listen to rock/pop/Big orchestral - they could leave you wanting bass and some treble As with all of the Fusion line these speakers need to burn in and in all fairness, even though they have been perfornming as the effects speakers on my surround sound system for a few weeks now, I think that if I played them as the main speaker, there performance would improve even more. Use good cable to drive these speakers and they'll provide lots of detail - I use Van den Hul, but QED looks like a fair and less expensive match also Great product - great value
