I been using a pair of the NS-A636s along with a Yamaha YST-SW300 active subwoofer for about two months now in a pro-logic system with small JBLsurrounds. I've had a number of speaker sytems, both expensive and cheap, over the past three decades and so I do have something to compare this one to. The Yamaha system sounds great to me. I use it in a fairly large space of about 13 ft by 40 ft. It puts out a lot of clean, loud, gutsy, undistorted sound with movies. With music the sytem sounds pleasing and is easily suitable for long-term listening at high levels. |

I found a pair of these Yamahas just after they came out and yes, folks, they are not the finest speaker on the planet, but they are solid, a damn good deal (I think I got mine for $92) and work well in a small room. What I did with mine was stick them in the back of the room as surround speakers, a purpose for which they're well-suited and in which you don't notice the fairly high bass roll-off. True, the front channels are massive Cerwin-Vegas from the late 1970s, but hey, the small Yamahas make excellent surround speakers, much better than a lot of the crap out there being sold for that purpose. |

They have great clarity and treble responce. They don't have the low end, but a good sub-woofer can solve that quickly. A good speaker for the price. |

I was looking for a good pair of speakers with good midrange reproduction so that I could get rid of my static and dust filled equilizer. I had been using a pair of old Fisher 8" speakers that were reliable but predominately bassy and lacking in the midrange area. The Yamaha 636 speakers have all the midrange you can handle, smooth highs, and respectable bass! They are also clearly the best deal you can get for good quality and a good brand. Yes you could spend a hell of a lot more for something else but why? It's all about being realistic. |

I got a smaller NSA 527 for $75 a pair. This baby sounded very good compared to what we are reviewing here. For all you guys who gave 1 star for the NS A636, I think that speaker deserve it very much. I've made side by side comparison before buying the 527's and i can assure you that the difference in sound quality is tremendous. Long live the 527's!!!! |

I bought these to replace speakers that came an all in one system that my mom had. I think they are perfect for small rooms. The bass I found to be very respectable for certain pieces of music, it can be very punchy at times but sounds rather smooth when listening to classical music. I like them a lot. I paid $102.99 with tax for them at the Wiz. I like them so much I would like to buy another pair for surrounds as well as a Yamaha subwoffer and center channel. They probably work best in small to medium sized rooms. I love them. |

i bought a pair of these to use one as a center speaker with my fisher X-202-B. the first time i turned it on i noticed it sounded very BOOMY and muddy..i was using this with a pair of NS-A836's which also sounded very brittle and boomy.i cant wait to get rid of both pairs of these awful BOOMBOXESsome things i noticed were, NO packing inside the box , this is problibly why they sound so boomy, another thing was the crossover consisted of simply 2 capacitors to cut low frequencys from going to midrange and tweeter, another thing was the midranges are vented into the same sealed box as the woofers!!!!!!!!!!!!! this along with the woofers being extreamly cheap, make these speakers terrible |

I bought a pair of these with a desire for serious bass. This is about all they deliver. The hug cabinet lets me shake any wall in the house. But then I started listening to Dylan. These speakers are muddy as hell. Guitar chords mush together and snare drums are pretty harsh. Bright, muddy, with huge bass. If you listen to drum and bass techno or want to cheap speakers to fill a dorm they are a bargain. If you want serious clarity do what I'm doing. I'm getting a pare of B&W DM601's for about 400USDollars. I just listened to them in the store. Sounded better than my headphones(I have cheap head phones, but still an impressing accomplishment). Guess I reviewed two speakers. Well, I give the B&W's a 5 STAR RATING. |

I bought these speakers last year some time for $75. I have them in my bedroom. For the money, I can't complain. They work well with my Onkyo TX-8511 receiver and Technics SLPD-988 CD player. |

I bought a pair of these speakers to replace my disintegrating AR-2's (that's really old..). Price, the review in Consumers Report (and an old Stereo Review(?) ) and a quick listen in the store, convinced me. I think they are pretty good, especially if you set your bass and treble controls as per consumer reports. Bass +2, treble+5. this corrects the 'flat' sound of the speaker. |
