Strength:

Sleek Design and crisp sound.

Weakness:

Very poor response below 150Hz

First of all let me state that this center channel IS NOT for everyone. I wouldn't recommend it to anyone that isn't using Bose speakers for the front channels. This is because the VCS-10 is matched to perform with other Bose speakers.
All Bose speakers have a distinct bright sound that can only be matched by another Bose.

I have the AM5's for the fronts, and I previously used an Infinity CC-2 as my center. The CC-2 is a very good speaker; it sounded great all by itself, but when paired with the AM5's the surround sound effects just didn't sound right.

When I hooked up the VCS-10, the improvement to the overall performence was tremendous. The dialogue and effects really do sound like they're in your face. The entire system sounded much more spacious.

The poor bass response is more than compensated by AM5's bass module. I have to say in my system this speaker sounds great.

Strength:

It's fairly cheap.Slim.

Weakness:

It's fairly cheap. Sound.

The sound is muffled and not high quality. Or mid quality for that matter. Don't buy the name or listen to what someone else say's(except me). Go and listen very carefully to several brands before you shell out hard earned cash on anything. I find it hard to believe anyone who says they are an audiophile gives this product a 5. Buy something that has an actual tweeter. I spent $300 and got a great sounding B&W CC6 S2.

Strength:

Very good sound when used with other bose products

Weakness:

suffers from a lack of lower-mid range and bass

It is appoling that so many people post reviews on bose products but have never owned them. The sites admin should erase all the non-credible reviews that people post. Too many people post bad reviews on products that they havent even heard!!!

I like the bose center channel, its sound very good when used with other bose products. I think its a bit over-priced though, like many of bose's products. I've used paradigm and B&W and they obviously blow bose away but they also cost much more. If you own other bose equipment, then this center channel is for you.

I have the Bose VCS-30 package which includes the VCS-10 center and two surrounds which are similar to the Bose model 100. I use the package with my 1983 Bose 601 Series II main speakers of which I recently replaced the foam surrounds. The new package blend well with the 601's and the system as a whole sounds fantastic. I don't know what the deal is with some of the previous negative reviews but I have an idea. Some are actually disatisfied purchasers. But I believe many are just the lunatic fringe Audiophile Elite who have never actually bought, let alone listened to, this speaker. They just dislike the Bose name and get off writing negative reviews. Of course they are always quick to push their current favorite flavor of the month in the process.

Strength:

appearance, range of sound

Weakness:

lack bass

I read every review mainly because I'm about to buy another bose center. I must say that it is true that this speaker sounds fantastic when matched with other bose speakers. I have the above mentioned hook up in my bed room (also have a Yamaha 45 sub) and this systems rocks. this center may lack bass but when matched with a decent sub, what a producer of various ranges of sounds! I am more than pleased with this center, of course I had to tweek it some with my Technics receiver @2dbs and my fronts set on "large". I'm building another system for my family room and will match this center with pioneer fronts (3 way) and pioneer wall mount surrounds should be no problem. I will advise once it is complete.

I come from old school who drives a Cadillac (which has to handle like a barge), wears pants with patterns that are the norm on any American golf course. And I must wholeheartly disagree with most of the pundits below - Just look at this peice of visual art - you don't even need to run any signal through this puppy to know it will meet and deliver everything you were promised by the salesman in the store. Bose will always be part of the American dream - the Cadillac of speakers. 5 stars I think allround and no complaints.
BTW - I may later give a rating based on sound quality once I get my ears fixed by the over due surgery - I've suffered abombnable ringing in my head and virtual deafness since the shellings in Vietnam. It's products like Bose which give me a reason to live.

Strength:

Slim size.

Weakness:

Frequency response. This is basically 4 paper tweeters.

I feel the need to write a review. I had this center for a year and thought it was pretty good. I have started listening to other systems and find the Bose lacking. Yes, I have my $1000 receiver set to a small front. The problem is that when you set your receiver to small it only rolls off the frequencys below 80-100 HZ. This center is basically a tweeter as it has no mid-bass. It doesn't produce much sound below 200 HZ. This does leave a hole in your sound stage. My advice is to go to a high end store and listen to higher priced systems. Then you can start understanding what to listen for when you go shopping for something in your price range. I would also sugest buying from a company that sells high end $20000 speakers. Like B&W, Infinity, PSB etc. When they make a modestly priced speaker, they don't make a cheap speaker that will ruin their reputation. I recomend PSB Alphas or B&W 600 or 300 series, but there are other high end speaker companys that make decent speakers in the low priced range. Look for a speaker with drivers made of quality material. Not paper. I don't put down anyone who likes this speaker. I used to like it too until I started hearing the mid-bass I was missing from this center.

Strength:

none except that it is small

Weakness:

sounds like crap

After on two weeks of listening to this joke of a center channel speaker I sent it back. The highs were, wait there were no highs, the midrange was the only thing that was decent. I was dissapointed from the start with this speaker. I though I would give it a few days to break in, well I did and the sound got no better. I had to go out and buy a new center channel speaker. This speaker is a waste of money. Look else were if you want real speaker. becasue the Better sound through marketing motto, just does not cut it.

LOTS, Piece of Poop!

While working in a high-end stereo store I was fortunate enough to not only listen to, but to compare with equal everything the highest end Bose and the Klipsch. I thought I would wait a while before purchasing my own system so I could get a feel for the two. There was absolutely no waiting involved; I knew which was better right away. When the Bose representative left to go home early for the day (which was quite often) it was a free for all on his system. I would hook up the comparable speakers to the same receiver via speaker selector boxes, listen and just laugh. People would come in and I would do Klipsch/Bose comparisons for them . Needless to say 79 out of the 80 people that got to hear the difference walked out at night with Klipsch in hand. The one that didn’t had a Bose center, and a wife that told him not twice but three times that "the Bose would look better on top of the T.V." When she was gone he later nudged me and sure enough agreed the Klipsch sounded better. One further note, when I hooked the two center speakers up to compare (originally the Bose center speaker was not hooked up to the Bose system, now i know why) there laid the biggest difference in the sound quality. The best way to describe the two differences would be to imagine a 5-gallon bucket of water! Now imagine playing boths speakers side by side! Now imagine that Bose center speaker submerged in that 5-gallon bucket of water! That is the difference. And I was only comparing it to the Klipsch C-1 (one of the lowest end centers). Now I know why the Bose guy didn’t hook up his center, and also why he would never let me play my system when his was playing. P.S... one of the reviews after this is one of those jackasses that bought a Bose (Mark)...
