Strength:

Great reproduction, incredibly smooth and accurate. Seemless silk tweeter.

Weakness:

None found yet.

I just purchases my C/L/R 1000 two months ago, used, to join with my DefTech BP 6's. (Would you believe I got it for $150, not even six months old! It is mint.) It replaced a dated PSB Centre. The difference was noticable immediately. My Harmon Kardom AVR 85 brings these awesome speakers to life. I am looking for BP 10's and a PF1500TL to compliment this system. Once purchased, my system will be complete. I will have to look no further, Def Tech are the best.

i purchased this speaker today.i previously owned a polk 250 center channel speaker.i noticed everything that went through it would over shadow my bp 30s.while i was up purchasing dts cds today my dealer suggested i listen to it.that was an easy sale.like another reviewer said match it with difinitives.now instead of having a blaring center channel i have a wall of intermingled sound with your focus gently brought to the center channel.i played some dts cds and what a difference between that and the polk.now i know why.the designer of difinitive speakers used to design polks ,no longer, now he has his own company.it is called difinitive technology .

I own 3 Definitive Technology C/L/R 1000's, (you guessed it... for my center, left, and right channels). They are powered by 3 Marantz MA 500's THX amps connected by 3 8-foot equal length MITerminator 5's. The sound I get from this setup is absolutely stunning!! The treble is crystal clear without sounding too bright and the mid bass definition is very clean. As for low bass extension, I wouldn't know since I use a Sony SDP-EP9 ES Dolby Digital surround processor with the crossovers set for all 3 front channels at 80 Hz. All the bass is handled by my Difinitive PF1800 sub. With this setup, the dynamic range of the C/L/R 1000 is astounding. When I have friends over, they say "why can't you get this kind of sound from our local movie theater"?!!

I have owned the CLR 1000 center channel for six months and the "newness thrill" has still not worn off. Each time I think I have heard all that this speaker can reproduce, it suprises me again. I think for the price it is exceptional. I don't want to say that it is the best center channel out there because I really did not listen to any others (besides other Definitve centers). I had purchased Definitve Techs BP-30 previously, after critical review of several high quality speakers, so the center channel brand was not an issue, just which one of DT to choose.
I will say that I feel that the CLR 1000 is the best quality/price center in definitves line. I listened to the C1 jr., the C1 and the CLR 1000 on my first go around and felt that there really was no comparison in the sound quality, the 1000 was far superior. I then listened to the higher dollar CLR 2002 and the CLR 2000. The CLR 2000 sounded identical to the 1000 and the 2000 sounded only very slightly better, definitely not worth the $250 difference between the 2000 and the 1000. If costmetics are a concern, then maybe your would prefer the 2002 or the 2000, but that was not a major concern of mine. Or if you own either the BP2002 or BP2000 then getting the matching center channel is an issue. To me, however, the CLR 1000 was the best.

I have owned a CLR 1000 since 1994. At the time I purchased it, it was the best center channel speaker available bar none. There are some others now which can give it some competition, but only for a good deal more money. I am still quite pleased. My only question regarding this speaker is why Def Tech rates its response so aggressively. The speaker has a better bass response than just about any other comparable product, but in my experience, the lower end rating of 25hz is wishful thinking. The true lower limit I have been able to test out is around 40hz.

Strength:

accurate sound reproduction

This was purchased on ebay to match the BP10 speakers that I own. This has the silk dome tweeter that matches my older BP10's. I was surprised about the difference these speakers make while watching movies. I highly recommend this speaker to anyone interested

My wife would be perfectly happy with the sound of a table top fm radio. The night I began using my C/L/R, she made the comment "that speaker under the TV sure makes a difference". I was stunned that it sounded good enough to make her notice it! This is one peice of my equipment that I forget is there because it sounds that good and natural. A very good center speaker regardless of price, but be sure you have other DT speakers to go with it.

Strength:

Good bass for a non-powered center. Good clean dialogue. Nice binding posts

Weakness:

Very large. Doesn't have the laquer finish like other def.techs

I bought the CLR1000B to match my other def.techs:
BP10's
BP2X's
BP1X's
PF18TL
I matches the others very well. The dialogue is very good and really makes my HT shine. It has a surprising amount of bass for a non powered center speaker. It is very large and you do need a large surface area to set the speaker on. For most projection tv's that shouldn't be a problem, but if you have a 35" or smaller set you will need to shelf mount it. It does have gold binding posts for banana plugs which are a plus. At full retail you may be able to buy a better speaker nowadays. I purchased an open box unit and paid less than half retail with full warranty so I'm quite happy with my purchase(but i'll rate it based on retail). I recommend this speaker and all the Definitives I own.
