Strength:

Awsome clarity. Voices and language reproduced well.

Weakness:

None

This speaker is excellent. I thought I'd review it because I am using it with the JBL S412's and S-36's for the rear.

This center works very well with the S412's and I watched Mission Impossible on DVD tonight in 5.1 surround. WOW!

It is well made, and has great range. To those who wish it had more bass: NEWSFLASH you don't need gobs of bass out of a center - the internal crossover isn't built to reproduce the lows. Spend the $ on a subwoofer or the S412's.

Searched around for a center speaker to complete my 5.1 system. Looked at several other speakers in this price range, but the general good reviews on this speaker caught my eye. After using it for a while I have to agree. The midrange is very clear and strong, great presence. It will be difficult to find a better speaker in this price range, especially a 3-way speaker.

Strength:

Clear and loud. Excellent value.

Weakness:

None I can see.

I don't have JBL main and surround speakers, but the Boston Acoustics 3-way center channel that matches my main speakers sells for $600, which is ridiculous. I wanted a big 3-way center channel, and for $150, this JBL was a great buy. It has made a big improvement in my surround system. I had a smaller 2-way center channel before. The center channel is very important. In my opinion, you need a 3-way speaker to get the best sound.

Strength:

Clear midrange vocals and decent sensitivity, low price, Value for money

Weakness:

Lows are not covered, but a center speaker does not need it. Also slighly big size.

Great speaker and great price (167 delivered). With Yahaha HTR-5250, these speakers make movie watching a real theatre experience. Better set center to "small" so that bass will go to sub-woofer. Buy these and you will be satisfied with the tinkling sounds that is brought out by those DVDs

Strength:

Impressive sound and looks

Weakness:

The sound is very well balanced. The reason why I upgraded was to be rid of the "sweet spot" problem that plagued the HLS. It probably isn't the best center speaker out there, but I doubt you will find anything better in this price range.

Note: I placed my order for the S-center on 9-10-01. Four days later it was in my possession! Bestpriceaudiovideo.com is a legitimate company that I would recommend to anyone. If you don't believe me, check out bizrate.com or their seller ratings on ebay.

GOD BLESS THE UNITED STATES AND ITS ALLIES!

Strength:

Clarity. Build quaility. Sound is natural. Very beautifully constructed.

Weakness:

Was in the market for a cener channel speaker, but did not want to spend a lot of money. Came across the S Center at the local Best Buy and was impressed by its looks. This is a large center channel speaker. Once I listened to it I was sold. The sound is very natural. The dialog is well centered in the middle where it belongs and has excellent tonal qualities. This speaker is also beautiful to look at. Impress your friends by taking off the grill and you know what I mean. JBL should be commended for building a speaker that sounds as good as it looks. Bargains in home audio are hard to find these days, but the S Center is an incredible value. Test it against the competition. I think you will agree that you will not find a better center channnel for under $300, let alone under $200. This is one incredible speaker and I am totally satisfied with my purchase.

I have my middle speaker set to large since for me it sounds more natural to my ears. Let your ears do the testing when setting-up your S Center.

Bass

I purchased this speaker coz I wanted to upgrade from 5.1 to 6.1. I used my old JBL's as my surround back speakers and got the S-Center as my center speaker. Once I hooked them up I noticed the difference right away. The sound from the S-Center is more defined and and the high's and mid's from movie soundtracks are more clear.

The bass output of the S-Center is a little weak, so I set the speakers to small and jacked up the x-over to 200 so that the subwoofer (paradigm pdr-8) can take care of all the bass tones.

I would recommend this speaker to anyone who's looking for crisp, clear sound for movies and music.
