Weakness:

THE 10 MONTH WAIT TO RECIEVE THE SPEAKER AND THE VARIOUS FAIRY TALES WENDELL AT MAGNAPAN TOLD WHEN IT WOULD BE AVAILABLE.

I CAN'T COMPLAIN ABOUT THE PERFORMANCE OR SOUND. BUT, I SURE CAN COMPLAIN ABOUT HOW MAGNAPAN COMMITMENT TO LONG TIME CUSTOMERS HAS DROPPED. I HAVE OWNED MMG'S AND NOW HAVE 1.6 QR'S AS FRONT MAIN SPEAKERS AND 10.1 QR'S AS SURROUNDS. THE MGCC1 IS THE ONLY CENTER THAT WILL BLEND WITH MAGGIES AND GIVE A SEAMLESS SOUNDSTAGE AND THAT MAGGIE SOUND. ON APRIL 29, 2000 I PUT A DEPOSIT DOWN FOR A EARLY SUMMER PRODUCTION RUN OF THE MGCC1, I DID NOT RECIEVE MINE TILL THE BEGINNING OF MARCH. MONTHLY CALLS TO WENDELL AT MAGNAPAN GAVE A NEVER ENDING ARRAY OF EXCUSES. ONE EXCUSE WAS THEY COULD NOT FIND QUALIFIED PEOPLE TO HANDLE THE PRODUCTION LEVELS. I EVEN WAS OFFERED A JOB BUILDING SPEAKERS! I THINK THIS SITE NEEDS A RATING CATAGORY FOR CUSTOMER SERVICE OF THE MANUFACTURER. I WOULD GIVE WENDELL AND MAGNAPAN ONE STAR ON HOW THE WHOLE MGCC1 FIASCO WAS HANDLED. THE SPEAKER IS INCREDIBLE AND I'M STILL A MAGGIE LOVER, BUT THE WAIT SURE SUCKED!

Strength:

True to the human voice. Not fatigue inducing.

Weakness:

Can be too revealing in light of the quality of most recordings.

These are only initial, preliminary impressions after only having had the speaker for a week. It is well broken in because I bought it used. It is about a year old, in top condition.

It reproduces the human voice in a very realistic manner. It can tend towards too much presence for many recordings. I have never heard the female voice so well reproduced. It has almost no info below 160 hz. Can be a problem blending it with anything other than maggies. It can play very loud with out much power. Perhaps it sounds better with more power, I am giving it 100 watts at 4ohm.

I like the speaker and its' sound, though it can be annoying by being so very revealing of the sound as it was recorded. My opinion is that most recordings are not up to the reproduction ability of the Maggie center channel. But, for those recordings that are well recorded, it can be a magical moment when hearing (as they say "like for the first time" voices that you thought you were familiar with and love.

Strength:

Crystal clarity in spoken voice and mid/high repoduction.

Weakness:

Low end bass stops around 100 hz

After listening to several different center channel speakers I picked the Maggie's for the clarity and match to my other maggie's. I have a large room and the combination is wonderful in a theater environment.
