This is amazing to know that most people got these acoustic studio monitor 3311 the same way from two guys in a white van, I also got mines from a guy in a white van, this happened as I was walking to my car on the parking lot at Glendale community college and the approached me and offered me the two speakers for $300 and I first declined the offer due to the price and then he dropped the price for $180, the guy actually fallowed me all the way to second and San Pedro in down town la to the ATM machine to get the money, At one point as everyone else here I thought I had been ripped off but after reading these reviews I got a deal, all these happened back in 1998 and I the speakers still sound amazing,

I have no idea what year these were manufactured, but they're amazing. I'm running a 75watt per channel Denon Receiver (AVR 13-12) and its not enough to handle the low end! But the high and mid range's are impeccable.. I have a subwoofer I'm going to add soon, which will help, but it's not the same as a having 125+ Watt power source for these bass drivers.

And I got them for 30 bucks!!!! At the GOODWILL in Beaverton Oregon xD!!

I'm quite sure some Intel engineer, or Nike 'employee' dropped 'em off. One speaker had definitely been dropped, from some hight. The outside wood side enclosure had separated at the top seam due to the impact, and 2 of the 4 plastic pegs that hold on the 'cover' were broken off due to the fall. So I completly sealed it back up with caulking (no wood glue in my apt to be found), and the remaning two plastic pegs hold the black front cover just fine. :)

They sound perfect, just wish i had more watts for the bass, leaves me thinking about a new reciever... NEED MORE POWER!

In keeping with everyone else who has Acoustic Studio Monitors 3311, mine also came to me from the back of a van, seems that's the only way to own these. They've been the speaker for my big system for over 15yrs, other equipment has been swopped & changed but the 3311's remain the same, they are simply superb..

Ready for this? I got mime (Acoustic Studio Monitor Series 3311) from the back of a guy's pick-up truck in a parking lot off of Route 4 in Paramus New Jersey in... 1977!! No B-S! I think I gave the guy $40 - and I thought I was getting ripped off. But amortized over 35 years, it's not such a bad deal. I brought them out with me to Los Angeles in 1978 and they still sound crisp and clean. Definitely the best 'hot' merchandise I ever bought. Maybe my guy in the pick-up is the father of the guy's in the white van!! I only came across these reviews because I was trying to find out how much they are worth. These speakers have some history.

This is fantastic!... I can't believe it. So many people got their 3311's the same way I did, from a couple of guys in a white van on a petrol station forecourt, from memory, somewhere near High Wycombe, Bucks, way back in 97. The same scam, product overstock, here's the paperwork, washing these out cheap, bla, bla, bla. Think I paid around £100 quid for them. After all this time, I can honestly say, that was one of the best £100 quids I ever spent. Absolutely superb sound performance, quality bass, good mid and top end range and I'm sure, could quite happily compete alongside any of today's equivalent sized modern day speakers at 4 or 5 times the price. Very happy with them. I only have one regret. I didn't buy a second pair. Even if I had the extra cash back then, I didn't have the space at home or a big enough car to take them home with. Today, I wouldn't advise you buy anything like that from a white van unless you've researched it and know exactly what you are buying. Though, from the stories of other peoples experiences, I'm glad I was'nt the only one and that in most cases, the outcome was a good one.

I bought these in 1993 from 2 guys in a white van. It was an anniversary present and a good deal for the times. This pair has been my front L/R speakers since that day and have always had a Denon pushing them. I have never been disappointed with my purchase and they still rock today although I am beginning to lose one of them so I am looking to replace them. Still, over 20 years and they still sound great in my Theatre watching movies! I will be upgrading this time as I earn more money now but these have more than paid for themselves.

I am bemused by these speakers and the story behind them. I was a full time recording engineer and had recently moved into working in audio duplication and mastering when I was approached by two guys with a van who appeared at my office in England (way in the country) with some of these speakers. This has to be at least 15 years ago. Long story short I bought a pair, seemed good value if they were half decent. All these years later they are still my main home stereo pair of big speakers and they have always sounded great. I have never been able to find out who made/makes them or where they are made so it is all very odd - still I am happy. These speakers are really good in an average (non acoustically treated) room but you need some space, they are not small. I would thoroughly recommend them with a decent power amp, my 100 watt per channel Denon handles them really well (woah, don't need to turn it up too loud!)

Just came across these reviews while doing a search for more info on the pair of Acoustic Studio Monitor 3311 speakers that I have owned for about 18 years. I am absolutely blown away to read how many people got theirs from "2 guys in a white van at a gas station". Guess where I got mine? I'm sure it's all a huge coincidence - NOT!! But to think this has been going on for so long? Amazing.
I really love these speakers, and have been very pleased with the way they handle high volumes and serious bass frequencies. Have used it with a Sony amp/receiver STR-DE925 in cinema sound mode with no problems. I also like the fact that they aren't huge like my other speakers, and don't crowd the room.

Crazy...I've had these speakers for about 15 years or so and wondered if there were any reviews. Guess where I bought them? Couple of guys in a van approached me in Los Angeles. I must have paid about $200 or so. Anyway, they are still working and I'm happy with them. Just can't believe how many other stories there are.
