This speaker is superb by any standarts, and a gift for the money.By far the finest under $500- available right now. I use Dynaudio Contour 1.3 ($2400-)in my main system, and find surprisingly many similarities in both articulation
and dynamics.I know general consensus says there is a great choice theese days
in this catagory. I disagree, but this one cuts it.

Strength:

Transparent sound. Good soundstaging.

Weakness:

Need a good amplifier to drive.

Owned these pair of speaker since 1995 with a faithful Musical Fidelity A120. It sound detailed and warm with a good pair of speaker stand.
Have swicthed to a used Cyrus 1 recently in a bigger room. Suprisingly, the speaker perform better. With much clarity and better control on the low end. Love the treble as it much more distinctive than many other speaker on that price scale. The mid range sounded with more depth with vocals piece from Mary Black, Sarah Brightman etc. String instrument sounded more lively.

Strength:

bright sounding, nice imaging

Weakness:

weaker bass, veneer is not that nice,

Fabulous highs and spacious mids, but these really do not have much extension or presence in the low frequency. You might think that this would be acceptable for a mainly classical or jazz enthusiast, but it was with acoustic bass that I found it to be most apparently lacking. Don’t get me wrong, this would be a fabulous rig with the right sub. Nevertheless, while the attacks might not be so sharp with the Paradigm, and the mids not so resolved with the mirage, the greater $ of the AE doesn’t seem to buy much more presence.

Weakness:

The SUPER long Break-in time

When I first got these speakers, they sounded laid back and a tad dull, but extremely precise and accurate. At first I was a little disapointed, but after a whopping 80 hours or so of break-in time, the tiny speakers unleashed its power. I immediately heard the difference in clarity and sharpness. The bass is EXTREMELY accurate and fluid. In fact, I was so satisfied with the bass these babies were pumpin, I disconnected my sub! A definate keeper! Oh and I used these speakers with a Creek 4330mk2 amp and Cambridge Audio speaker cable.

Strength:

Great midrange, fantastic build quality, price.

Weakness:

Not as energetic as some initially, low-end is not as detailed as some, bass can sound a bit muffled sometimes.

I bought these speakers about six months ago after reading some rave reviews, mainly in the British hi-fi press.
I was truly stunned.
In my ageing set-up of EAD T1000 and DSP 1000 with Harman Kardon HK 1400 Line Amp, Atacama stands and Van den Hul cables they sound pretty much as good as I've heard sub-250 pound speakers sound.
The midrange is awesome, drawing one into the music effortlessly, while detail levels are more than acceptable for the money.
True, initially they are not the most thrilling speakers available, but they do make a very strong sonic case for themselves over extended listening, always sounding in control -- weighty and pure with a heavenly treble/mid performance.
Perched on a pair of solid, heavy stands the first thing you notice is the brilliantly open and pure mid/treble, while the bass is tight and controlled with most music.
The treble isn't as up-front as others, and it is never, ever harsh or fatiguing.
I've listened to them on the end of a NAD 319 in my listening room and was suitably impressed -- impressed enough to consider an upgrade to the 319 without having to worry about an immediate speaker upgrade.
On the downside, the bass can be a bit bloomy and under-defined with very heavy basslines, but on the whole they produce a fine performance when one takes into account what they cost.
If you're looking for an entry-level speaker that outclasses its opposition by a large margin with just about any music, look no further.
The AEGIS Ones really sound the part and they're phenomenally well-built to boot.
They're also more than good enough to do justice to more pricey electronics while you're on the upgrade path.
Buy with absolute confidence!

Strength:

Imaging, Built Quality, Overall sound

Weakness:

Hihgs rolloff, bit bloated bass

A nice little speakers, absolutely wonderful for your 2nd system. Price to performance ratio cannot be beaten by 90% of other products. The loose bass can be improved by a simple tweak - fill cut straws into the back port. This trick is worth doing. Currently used for FM radio listening from a Denon tuner..I'm amazed at the quality of sounds tranmitted, I dont think I need to buy CDs again. Very forgiving to non-hifi source i.e. portable CDPs, computer soundcards, TV . Best if you had 4 of them, two at front and two at rears, but you need two amps and a good subwoofer for the optimum setup. Excel both in music and HT. Highly Recommended.

Strength:

Balance, value and overall performance.

Weakness:

Litle too easy.
Litle too easy to the music.

Very good in the total performance. Balance is bit to the two-dimensional side to my taste. Centering is bit vague and imaging is not as sharp as I have heard, but all-in-all I hve been very happy with these. Even the AE109's gould compete with these. And one have to remember the cost of these litle performeres. Worthy for audition.

Aegis One costs 150 pounds in the UK and has a metal alloy cone driver and soft fabric dome tweeter. It is actually quite big and heavy for a stand mount and the look is slightly debatable in my opinion. It is driven by my Roksan Caspian Integrated amplifier with Arcam Alpha 7 CD player and I'm currently using SonicLink Silver Pink interconnect and Gale XL-315 speaker cable.
I tested the speaker with KEF Q15, Tannoy M1 and R1 and I like the Aegis One for its overall combination of good dynamic range, transparency and neutrality. To be honest (I don't like the M1s), the KEF has better midband voicing and balance, while the Tanony R1 is even, clean and transparent but both have their shortcomings and the bass lacks authority and slam. The Aegis One came top in my list overall with the right combination of sound qualities to suit the wide range music that I listen to. It wins with its ability to portray music with a sense of focus, presence and atmosphere. The bass packs a lot of punch and weight. It has a very safe sound that can be slightly dull at times but it also ensures that any complex music you put through it will come out right. I just love the way it plays music! Very musical and an excellent all round performer at any price.

To me, it is the best speakers below 200 pounds and a must hear. Full marks to AE and 5 star.

Strength:

Price, Quality of Build, AND THE SOUND!!

Weakness:

NONE

The reviews below tell a story and it's simple YOUR NOT GOING TO BEAT THIS SPEAKER FOR THE PRICE!! I had the chance from a dealer to demo the Paradigms mini and Aegis side by side, AEGIS HANDS DOWN WINNER!! Then just for fun I opened up both cabinats, the quality in construction was noticably different. The paradigms were done cheap next to the Aegis tricked out enclosures!! This is the "ONE"!
