These are excellent speakers for the price! Imaging, power, and frequency response (35Hz-20Khz) are great. The most impressive is the midranges and tweeters ability to deliver a very natural sound, not "tinny" or "dull" just right. I listen to everything from old school jazz to modern techno. I've never heard a hi-hat or cymbal sound more real on any other speaker below $1500 a pair. I got mine for $490/pair at www.shop4.com (they tack on $35 bucks for shipping, but that still brings them in at $300 less then Crutchfields selling price!). As for appearence, they're sleek black and beautiful. I listened to Paradigms, PSB Bronze, and the Infinity reference series. For under $1000 a pair nothing will touch these speakers in my opinion, they're so natural sounding. I use a Yamaha R-V902 reciever that has DSP effects on it. My old JBL J900s sounded alright with the effects on, but the 310HOs create such a difference between having the effects on or off. They provide so much space in the parts on their own that the reverb effects aren't ever needed. I mostly use the 310HOs for music but also bought the AR C25HO for a center channel and their Edge speakers for surrounds and have a excellent home theater outfit at $900 for everything including shipping. My next is a powered sub(I havn't heard great things about AR's subs, so I'm looking at PSB and Energy. Anyone with info on these units feel free to e-mail any opinions.) Let me close by saying that Audio Review is amazing for providing so much info at one site, THANK YOU!!
Happy listening, Karl

The AR310HO speakers reproduce music so natural that one would need to pay two to three times their retail price to get a small increase in sound quality. That difference would be in the very bottom end of the audio spectrum. A great product for the money. *****

I bought this speakers based on the reviews I read here.I never heard them before.Although my local doesn't have the 310's.
this Speaker were connected to DENON 5700 and DVD 3109,ES CD CDP CX90.
dish Net.I can't wait to get my CS25 and my Rear bookshelfs.
I would difinetly recommend this speakers.
By the way I bought them from sound city, for $479.I ordered on Thursday they came in on Tues.Great Company and great service.

I bought these speakers about a year ago and at first I was a bit weary about my purchase. The midrange seemed unnaturally strong which seemed to ruin the music. But now, I feel its combination of a strong midrange, precise treble and authoritive bass is the best I've ever heard! Its imaging is great with a very expansive soundstage and its forwardness characteristic is much better than the distant and far away imaging of many other speakers I've heard. The midrange quality seems to work extremely with solo music with excellent definition of each voice. As a student, I still am running the old vintage zip-cord and factory interconnects and I will soon swap them for quality cable like XLO or Kimber. And then, these speakers will be better than I could imagine! I will later replace my old AR surrounds and Sonique center with AR's C25 speaker... I CAN'T WAIT!
Overall I rate 5 stars for quality construction and sound quality and 4 for price because I payed a hefty $AU1800 ($US1000) for these speakers. And for those stupid idiots who give the 310 and 312HO a bad comment... get a life and stop listening to Bose and get real speakers!

I eliminated Klipsch, and a multitude of other brands except for Boston A. I think the Boston's were better, but the AR's were less expensive. I am completely happy with my system (Yamaha 2095) and cannot possibly add anything of value to the other happy AR owners comments except this: The 310's come with a black fabric covered plastic sound baffle on the front of the speakers. Having owned two white colored longhaired cats (who like to rub themselves on just about everything in the house) for some ten years now, I can report to you all that it is a pure joy to clean these fabric covers! You see, the baffle holds the fabric nice and taut, allowing me to use the round bristle attachment on my vacuum cleaner to suck the cat fur off of the fabric without distorting it. I could not use the vacuum with the other brands I owned because it would strech the fabric and cause it hang loosly...Although this may not be a factor in most peoples decision to purchase AR over some other brand, it is a factor nontheless.....

I do enjoy these speakers. For the price they are excellent and well worth an audition. You may also want to check out Paradigm for comparison reasons.

I bought AR 310 HO a month ago from shop4.com for $400plus and I'm using it with AR CS25HO ,AR the edge surround and Harmann AVR55 receiver. After warming this speaker for 2 days, this is the most natural sound speaker I have ever heard. And with tara lab prism 2+2 biwire speaker cable($3per ft.from soundscapeav.com) ,this speaker produces very clear and sweet sound. I do recommend you guys to try biwire connection cos's it really improve the sound quality. One of my friend is using KEF coda7 for surround speakers and i found that comparing it with my the edge surround speaker ,this Coda7 is really worth to buy(coda7 is $158/pair , The edge is $145/pair)

Just got these speakers last week... They look FANTASTIC, but sound like crap. The midranges and highs sound ridiculously dull. I compare them next to a pair of Overture II and boy what a difference!!!!!!!!!!! Yes, Overture II cost a lot more, but you can get a very similar, less-costly setup with the RS-5 and a good sub. These ARs are definitely going back!

When I decided to dedicate my Carver ALIII's to a music only system,(Audible Illusions Modulus preamp, Ps audio ultra link d/a,Harmon Kardon tube/carver solid state bi amp combo), I knew I would have a very difficult time replacing them in my home theater system. I auditioned several different speaker systems including some really hoorid systems from Cerwin Vega and DCM, to some very nice systems from Definitive and B&W. Infact the B&W's just about had me sold until I auditioned the AR310's. To say the least these speakers are incredible. They image well and are remarkably efficient. Whats more their transparency make them equally effective for both music and cinema use. If you are in the market for a pair of highly efficient, nuetral and musical speakers, you should audition all the other competitors first! Then allow the AR's to blow all images created by the others out of your mind with their excellence. I love mine!
