Having spent most of my savings for a house, some furniture and home electronics, my budget for speakers was really tight. It took me three weeks of research to make the final decision. I found these speaks from www.jandr.com. They are priced $129 for each. After bargaining with one of the salesmen, I got a pair them for $231.98 plus the shipping fee. What a deal comparing with $200 or more for each on some other on-line shopping stores! They are in cherry finish. The craftsmanship of the exterior is very nice. I mean they look better than most of the speakers at the similar prices.
So far I have tried these speakers with my Sony STR-DB930 AV receiver for two weeks. Although they are not the very best speaks I’ve ever experienced, yet their performance is amazingly good, especially for the price I’ve paid. The sound from these speakers is clear and smooth. I can identify every single instrument when I listen to the music. My best experience was playing Kenny G’s Breathless, Elaine Paige’s Memory from Cats and the motion picture Matrix. The tweeters are shining and pure. The midrange gives a quite rich sound. I can feel the depth of the woofers, however, they are not as impressive to me as the tweeters and the midranges. Maybe that because my subwoofer overshadows their performance. They give a decent performance while playing symphonic music like Beethoven’s symphonies and concertos. They also present a great acoustic reality when playing home theater. I’ll give these speakers a big A plus!

The bottom line: These speakers definitely deserve to be on the top of your shopping list, if you want real good ones with exceptional value.

Strength:

Bang for the Buck. Nice round bass. Plenty of highs without being tinny and decent mids. Look good.

Weakness:

Disscontinued Item.

First I want to say thanks to all here for the Info about these speakers and Sears. I will be buying my whole system there, thanks to you all, and saving over 500.00. This is Very important since my lady has limited us to a 1000.00 budget for the HT set-up.

I went to two different Sears stores looking for the 318's or the 328's. The second store I tried had only the Display pair of 318's and gave me an additional 10% off.
(regular Sears Price is $94.97.)
I A/B'd them with the Sony 315's and there was no question. For the money these are Unbeatable.

These speakers really do impress me. I spent 6 years as a recording engineer and grew very used to listening to Urei studio monitors as well as Yamaha NS10's and various JBL's. Even with a low powered cheap-ass Aiwa system these get nice round Bass response and a lot more of it than my Infinity bookshelf speakers or even my ancient "FISHY"(no laughing please) towers with big 15" woofs. Not as flat as studio monitors but very pleasing to my ear.
These are the nicest home speaks I have heard for under 600.00. For under 100.00 each I can't imagine anything better.

Go now and buy a pair. If you can find em that is. Even it you don't need speakers. It's a great bargin.
Now I can squeeze a better Sub into my budget. Happy Happy JOY JOY!!

While Serious adiophiles may scoff, for working joes these are getting 5 out of 5 from me.

Low price ,Pretty flat response.

I got these at Jand r about ayear ago for 200 a pair. They sound great for the price. To my ears they sound best with the eq bypassed on my sony 333es.They helped out a lot in mixing my bands cd.I would mix on tannoy studio monitors and burn a cd of what I did that day. Then I would take it home and listen on the ars. They really did'nt sound much different that the tannoys. Not as much high end detail, but for the price...
The horn tweeters have an in the ear qaulity that takes getting used to.But the wide dispertion lets you stand in front of one and still hear the other clearly. The guy who said they would'nt handle volume must have been loading them down with bass.I've had mine at ridiculous volume and not a hint of strain.I use an advent sub 550 to accent the lowest lows.
Overral these are a great value if your budget is limited.I will eventually upgrade to something like b&w when I have the cash. But these rock for right now.

Well, scoff if you must, but i got these bad boys at Sears.
I have never bought a thing there in my life and often made fun of them for stocking junk like products from "Jensen".

I have been reading the reviews on the 318 for about 6 months, and was intrigued by the hi ratings. So i gave thema shot, i went down with a print out of this review page and showed the salesman the deal another reviewer got and i got the same deal.

The only problem was the idiot at the store didn't have both hooked up and had no clue how to remedy the problem and wouldn't let me do it for him. SOOOO i decided to just take them home and give them a shot and give them a true audition.

MY REVIEW
(on scale of 1-5)
Enclosure: The enclosure appears to be 3/4" particle board, pretty tightly assembled and has a fairly dead sound to it when you give it a good tap on the side, i give it about a 3.5 to 4.

Drivers: Seem durrable...
Tweeter: sounds great not to sharp not to dull, very clear and crisp. i give it a 4.5
Mid-range: Alittle lacking for my tastes, drowned out by bass to some extent 2.5
8" driver: Low and precise, doesn't rumble off when it shouldn't, bass is quite accurate and loud. 4

(FYI: speakers are held in place by several allenwrench screws, nice touch i thought)

wire connectors: gold post connectors, pretty good quality 4

appearance : 4, look more expensive than they really are.

I listen to a wide variety of music, rock, jazz, classical and some rap (at parties only) and i will say this, This is a very versitile speaker, it hasn't quit on me yet for any music, and they keep sounding better the more they get broken in.
I listened to Infinities 30 minutes before i purchased these AR's. They featured 8"powered subs, and they blew these AR's away, but they were also 3 times the cost of 180 i paid for the pair of AR's. The polks i listend to were more $ than the infinities and i thought they sounded worse than them, so i'd have to say i'm not a fan of Polk.

So obviously these speakers are a great deal, i'd buy them again in an instant, i recomend you do the same, hell you get a 30 day satisfaction gaurantee at sears, so you mightas well audition em for fun!

Def. the best bargain speaker money can buy!

These speakers are on discount at sears for 99 each. This has got to be the best speaker ever for 200 a pair. My neighbor is a real audiophile (he has merlin speakers, which cost thousands), he came over and was impressed. He liked the way they picked up all the instrumentals, and the clarity. I bought a Kenwood 316 amp at service merchandise for 40% off (they are discontinuing audio). It was 130 bucks. For less than 400 dollars delivered, including monster cable, I have a system that sounds like a thousand bucks. If you can find a pair, get them now. You will be duly impressed.

Weakness:

I was in a market for some higher end, yet inexpensive, speakers for a while. After reading the reviews for the AVR-318PS speakers and that Sears was practically giving them away, I picked up a pair. Wow! What a difference from my old junky speakers. It feels like you are listening to live music. Crank up the volume and the pictures on the walls shake.

Overall I am extremely happy with the purchase and would recommend these speakers to anyone who does not want to spend a fortune and get some awesome speakers.
