I hve listerned to many different setups of these speakers in both shows and dealer showroons. With
tubes and powerful transistor amps and allways I have
been disappointed. I am into electrostatics and have
the Accustat Spectra 11's, a similar hibred design.
These speakers, like my own are magical on vocals,
but sound worse the more instrumentation is involved.
Better to look at a used/new Martin-Logan speakers .

These little speakers are capable of magic, when set up properly. Changes of positioning of as little as an inch can make a HUGE difference in their sound. Owners of apogees will understand what I mean. I always use a tape measure and level to set these up properly and the effort was worth it - very detailed high end, revealing things that I had not heard on cd's and lp's previously. Soundstaging ability is also excellent if they are moved out from the wall and allowed to breathe. Mating of the woofer with the tweeter is good but not excellent. Bass response in my room is between 35-40Hz. Quality of the bass was ok but not excellent. I always use the low setting on the woofer (-1.5db) because of a slight tendency to get loose in the low end (no boominess, just not as tight as the Dynaudios). Despite the above criticisms, what really
sets these apart from most other speakers are their incredible and realistic midrange and top end. They can sound great at low volumes, all the detail remains. They even work very well with an Elite receiver and Maraantz CD, though they are brighter than with the Krell/Theta. They allow the user to experience the high end without having to spend a lot of money. A pair at this time can be picked up used for $500-700. Finding something comparable for $500 or so would be very difficult.
How do these compare to other speakers. Apogee Centaur - the minors are more coherent overall. The bass response of the centaurs is better. The same ribbon tweeter is used in both. Apogee Centaur Major - Majors have a bigger better tweeter. They are much more expensive and they sound that way. Martin Logan Aureus - I prefer the minors - bigger bass, more forward midrange. The M.L.'s are too laid back for me. M.L's have better quality bass, but are not nearly as dynamic as the minors. And, used they are twice the price. Acoustat 1+1 - Acoustats are more neutral overall, but are also more rolled off in the top end and bottom end. Metaphor - minors image much better. Metaphors are less analytical and more musical but are less detailed.
Dynaudio 1.3mkII - Its hard to beat the dyn's and the apogees can't. Dyn's bass is better, they are more coherent from top to bottom. The also cost 2.5x as much (even used). The top end on both is very good, just different (soft dome vs ribbon).
Assoc equipment: Krell, Theta, Elite, Acurus, Marantz, Tascam, Audioquest, Kimber.
For the price that these can be had for used, it would be hard to do any better. 4 stars overall bacause there are only a few 5's out there.

O resultado é muito, muito bom mesmo. Todos que ouvem admiram. Comparadas as B&W CDM-1SE soam muito mais naturais & equilibradas tonal & timbricamente.
