Strength:
Imaging and soundstage depth.
Weakness:
None I read the same review in Home Theater magazine. The reviewers for this periodical are usually quite critical, so their glowing account of this speaker system was enough for me. I have not been disappointed. I'm by no means an expert listener when it comes to the niceties of audio equipment, but I don't think you have to be an 'expert' to know when you've gotten bang for your buck. Speaking of bang, the base drum in Holst's Military Suites shakes the whole building (the last California earthquake was nothing in comparison). Yet, the soft instrumental passages had the proverbial 'bloom' that marks an accurate and colorless speaker system. Listening with this system was like hearing my CDs for the first time. There was a drum track on a Lightfoot album that used to drive me up the wall (I'd usually skip the track)--until I heard it with this new system. The snare drum sounded like a real snare drum (rather than a pistol shot), making perfect sense. Everyone should have a speaker system like this, if for no other reason to hear what the music is really supposed to sound like. |

A little light on the midrange. Would have preferred 6" to 4" on these. Excellent sounding speakers that get better the more you use them. After about two months, I believe they are finally broken in. This Saturday was the first time I had to say that these are kickass speakers. Similar Products Used: Dahlquist, AR, Klipsch |

Strength:
Great sound out of the box, have read about the famous break in period, but have not found this to be true for me. I am not an expert, but have a good ear. Have found them to be good with home theater and CD-ROMS
Weakness:
not at this time Small is size, big in sound. I will not provide the tech stuff here because I don't really know what all of it really means. I write this review as a home theater new owner. Boxes arrived, opened and hooked them up to my new Onkyo 787 and the sound was amazing. If you are looking for a no fuss, easy buy, without all the anxiety of wondering if you are purchasing the right thing, this is it. I hooked the speakers to audioquest CV-4 cable for the front L,R, and Center. The surrounds are hooked up with 12guage Liberty cable, and the sub to a mid-range single cable. Strength:
Truly seamless sound. Very clear dialogue from the center channel. Excellent documentation. The difference between the Atlantic Technology 170 and my previous Bose system is like day and night. I bought this system sight unseen based on reviews and worried a lot until I installed it. With DVD movies it is spectacular. With satellite and VCR movies it's not quite up to the DVDs but that's the source material. Although music is quite good with rich, very clean seamless sound and clear non-boomy bass, the system excels with DVDs. Similar Products Used: Bose AM Series |

Crisp Clear Sound. Center Channel exhibits excellent dialogue clarity!
Weakness:
no weaknesses. Maybe the sub may be a little too powerful. But I may just be paranoid about getting kick out of my apt complex and attracting too much attention. All I can say is that this system just too awesome. The speakers have been complimented on looking great and sounding excellent. This is my first home theater set and I am happy to say that I am very pleased. This system is a great bargain on my tight budget since I still have to pay for school. I got this system a piece at a time and all I need now is to get the surround speaker stands. I would highly recommend this system for anyone on a budget and who lives in an apartment or small house. BASS!!!!size, power, ummm....just a cool setup
Weakness:
a PAIN to hang on the wall, I will suggest using brackets I have been reading, doing research, auditioning systems for about three months before I settled with this setup, I rememebred the first time I heard the Polk RM6500 setup, then of course I listened to the Bose AM15(what a piece of junk)...I have also listened to the Energy take 5(pretty good), the Definitve setup(forgot the modle name but almost the winner)...the Jamo(hmmm...) setup...I was very impress with the polk and the definitive until I heard the system 170!!!! the bass is ten times better, the mids, the high, the lows, and the dipole surround, DAMN!!! Give these bad boys a test drive you won't be disappointed!!! Similar Products Used: Polk audio, Bose(HAHAHA), JBL |

Strength:
Tight and Controlled Sound. Excellent Sound Staging.
Weakness:
Now..........After Breaking In of Speakers............NONE!! Now these speakers will sound good when you first buy them but after extensive use you will definetly pause and say..."that's it, that's the sound I've been looking for." The AT 710's sound much more enveloping when broken in. It's kinda hard to explain and the difference is not night and day but you can definetly tell you got a top-notch system after putting it through it's paces. I read a review here on this site about the AT170 being "dark boxy" and I kinda heard a hint of that in my system at first (maybe not to the extent of others)but nothing major enough for me to have mentioned it. But all systems are a little different so it was probably much more pronounced in their system. But the flaws in my system are all ironed out now. No more of the "boxy" sound and now the sound is actually "unboxed". So I will definetly give this system the top rating once again. I would of given a higher score if I could because the system is now better the second time around. Since my vote won't skew the result of this review (since everybody here gives it a five) I think it's ok for me to give two votes. So if you are in the market for a budget home theater set, give this one a try:) Similar Products Used: M&K System 750 and 150 |

Strength:
Awesome sound, regardless of price, for both movies and music, warranty, build quality
Weakness:
Little mild on the highs, but not really a weakness I've been listening to this system for a month or so now and have to say I am truly amazed every day. I'm not an audiophile, but I do know good quality audio when I hear it. Movies are truly wonderful, with great sound on dialogue, while the sub takes over for the rough stuff. Make sure you keep the center channel about a foot or so level with the front channels (better transitional sound). For music they might not be as crystal clear as the Boston vrm 50's but offer wonderful imaging and depth. The sub fills in beautifully with the rest of the system, no overlap whatsoever. I have to say that the guys at soundcity gave me great advice and a killer deal. Check them out. Here's my system, wouldn't fit into an audiophile's garage, but works great for those on a bit of a budget: Similar Products Used: Klipsch kg40's, energy, boston acoustics |
