Strength:

tight controlled bass, nice balance overall

Weakness:

none for price

These speakers are a steal for anyone that wants great sound
for a minimal price. The differnce from out of the box sound to 50 hours of break in is dramatic. These speakers went from forward and bright to warm and laid back. At 66 lbs. apiece, they are solid. with the right stuff, they make music.

Strength:

Excellent overall sound, outstanding deal for the money

Weakness:

Lack of leveling feet

I am surprised by the strident anti-Audes reviews which are listed here below by others. Granted, tastes vary from person to person, but these speakers are an excellent buy for the money and are worth a listen by anyone who has a limited budget. I bought mine via the internet (sold new in the box by an audio retailer over eBay) for less than $400.00 the pair, including shipping to my door.

The Audes 035's are 48" tall 3-way tower bass reflex speakers, with a pair of 8" woofers. They have a nice silver-gray finish, which is a pleasant change from today's all-so-common black box syndrome. Bi-amp capabilities. Workmanship is excellent. Yes, they are made in Estonia, but I don't see that as a significant issue, either for or against these speakers. Photos, specs, and details can be found at the Audes website, www.audesusa.com.

I have had them for several weeks now, and can verify that they sound quite good. Strong bass down to below 40 Hz. (I am also running a separate subwoofer, but initially auditioned them full range without the sub), and a well balanced sound in the midrange and treble region.

These speakers sound better with a bit of power behind them. I am using a Carver amp with over 100 watts per channel, and these speakers can take this much wattage without a care.

As with any speaker, location within the room is critical, so expect to spend some time fiddling with them in your listening room. These speakers come with spike floor cones, but they do not have any leveling capability. And, these speakers are so tall that, if your floor is just a bit out of level, the result is a pronounced 'leaning' look to the towers. I will be replacing mine with a set of threaded adjustable leveling spikes so to compensate.

Overall, as with any speaker, it's down to a careful audition to determine if they are a match for you and your tastes. I'd urge anyone who can listen to these to do so, as they're a tremendous value.
