The transparent sound quality of these speakers is remarkable. Everything from Jazz to Jewel sounds so clean and clear. I have to agree with the fellow that said that he thought John Coltrane was living in one of his. Yes, the deep bass is just a little lacking, but the overall clarity makes this well worth it as a sacrifice. By the way, I also bought a set of small matched stands which arrived about a month after the speakers. I didn't expect to be able to tell a huge difference, but it tightened up the bass quite well. I definitely recommend the stands. |

Strength:
High Build Quality, Beautiful clean treble, open midrange, decent price (before it was discontinued)
Weakness:
Discontinued Well I wish I bought a pair of these when I had the chance as I've heard them for numerous hours at two stereo shops when they were being sold. Comparing them to my old B&W 201s and the Paradigms I owned for years, I can say the 804 Matrix is one hell of a speaker for the money. Its too bad the new Nautilus series has almost double the price of the 804. I have also heard the Matrix 805s and can say the sound is very similar in the midrange treble. The 804s have a super clean treble, almost forward to being almost bright., but not harshly so. The midrange has the best openness I've heard and the 3D depth to the speakers yet. I have yet to audition the new Nautilus series. The bass isn't quite as pronounced as my Paradigms were, but still tight and not boomy. If you can find these speakers used BUY THEM! Strength:
Clear Midrange and highs. Bass is tight
Weakness:
NONE I have owned these speakers since 1995. They are the best piece of stereo equipment I have ever owned. I was using a Nak TA 4A with them and that seemed to be enough power. Then I bought the Sunfire Cinema Grand which has 200 W/Channel (Twice the NAK)and what a difference! Can't wait to get the Sunfire Theatre Grand pre amp. |
