Strength:

Musicality reproduction quality overall package (amp & speaker) impression factor

Weakness:

none absolutely none

I was prompted to write this by the mixed reviews that these have received. Let's be honest here. Bi Riley-Linkwitz preamp filters, along with 4 (stereo setup - two speakers) 149 watt power amps. How much is that going to cost? Along with great speaker components and fantastic design - almost a rarity. I agree that in terms of the elusive spectre of true audiophile they are probably a little lacking. In terms of a packaged product they are hardly likely to be bettered. Let's not mention bass from such a small cabinet (cylinder in fact). If you want bass get a sub - as is the case for most speakers. What fantastic purity of sound. Listen to some really pure music tones. I recommend Improvisation by Morelenbaum/Sakamoto, close your eyes and let the sound stage and depth carry you away. All in all still a major contribution to music reproduction - major equipment manufacturers are still busily trying to catch up - and failing.

Strength:

Design, mid- high end range reproduced in excellent quality, built in amplifiers

Weakness:

Poor low range performance. Don''t try to force deep bass out of these speakers by increasing bass level - it ruins their overall performance.

I replaced my old JBL L 100''s with the Beolab 8000''s as I wanted the beautiful design, the built in amplifiers and the B&O system integration. For a long time I was very disapointed with the sound quality. The speakers had a poor performance in the low end range and they were disharmonic when playing even at moderate levels. But there is a solution ! Turn down the bass level and add a hi-fi subwoofer. The B&O sub is off course an obvious but expensive choice (added to the system it filters frequencies below 100Hz away from the 8000''s, easing the amplifiers and woofers job) In my case, my dealer suggested Audio Pro B 2.27 as an alternative (400$ compared to the B&O 1.900$) and everything changed ! The sub produces excellent bass and the 8000''s performance in mid- and high range frequencies became really a listening pleasure ! Escpecially acoustic instruments and voices are reproduced in very high quality. You do pay a higher price for the design and the brand as you always do with B&O, but add a hi-fi sub and you have an excellent speakersystem with a sound quality that easily matches most other speakers I have listened to - and it looks a great deal better

Strength:

Small size, design, high quality

Weakness:

Price, Bass can be lacking

Primarily for reasons of space limitation and the need for minimalist design, I purchased these speakers approximately one year ago. Bang and Olufsen has an excellent reputation for high quality components, and I can attest for this, as I have owned many of their products over the last 15 years which have performed marvelously. These speakers, on the whole, do not disappoint. Firstly, they have a unique design, in that they are self-amplified, unlike the vast majority of speakers on the market. An unusual feature of B&O''s more recent stereo systems is that they do not contain speaker amplifiers; the amplifiers are contained within the speaker itself. The specifics of the advantages of this I must admit that I do not understand, but it probably allows for more advance cutting edge design. The strengths of these speakers are in the high and mid range; in particular vocal music sounds tremendous. If anything is lacking, it''s in the low range. I you like to listen to drum and bass all the time, these are probably not the speakers to get; I would suggest the Penta model. These are pricey speakers, and you probably could get speakers of a similar acoustic quality for significantly less money. As is always the case with B&O, you pay a premium for interesting design and the high quality of the components.

After being a B&W fan for years, I redesigned my interior and found out that the black boxes from B&W looked terrible in their new surroundings. So the search for new speakers began. I started looking and listening everywhere to find a great looking and sounding speaker. After several visits to audio stores I discovered the B&O brand. The store itself looked amazing, and the products even better. I had heard from a audio friend that B&O products were way too expensive and that the quality wasn''t that good. Well history has proven that he was wrong. Because he listened to them at my place and bought them himself last year. After listening to all the B&O speakers I decided to buy the Beolab 8000. A speaker with two built-in amplifiers. The sound stage is perfect for a such a small and slim speaker. High and medium range are extremely good, bass is good for those who don''t play house and techno. For the real heavy boom box lovers, I recommend an extra subwoofer. But for my types of music: pop, jazz, classical, the bass is just perfect. The design is unique, it looks like a silver pencil, standing up. The stuff comes from a small country village in Denmark where they seem to have very good designers, because all their products have a unique look. I have never seen other brands like it. The speakers are hooked up to the Beosound 9000 cd changer and if needed, they fill the room with 120 watts per speaker. Even at high levels the sound stays perfect. No sqeeking highs or booming lows. If you don''t mind spending $3000 on quality and design, go for these beauties. Ofcourse, you can get even better speakers for the money but they won''t look as cool as these!

Strength:

Unique slim design, crisp and clear sound quality, technical innovations.

Weakness:

High price.

For those who seek a different type of speaker, based on revolutionary new technical concepts and state of the art design, go to a B&O dealer and take your time to listen to these organ pipes. Certainly the amount of money that B&O asks for these speakers is rather high, but it took the Danish company over 8 years to develop the new techniques that made it possible to built-in two high quality amplifiers into each loudspeaker. So you are actually not only purchasing two loudspeakers, but four amplifiers as well. The performance of this loudspeaker is amazing, especially when you take the size of the unit into consideration. The sound is crisp and clear and there is no distortion at high sound levels. For me, the bass is strong enough, but if you want "club bass power", you can add the 850 watt Beolab 2 subwoofer to these loudspeakers. The Beolab 8000 can easily compete with much larger and often a lot less attractive looking loudspeaker units. The surface is made out of polished aluminum, which reflects the color of your interior. This feature, combined with the timeless design, makes it very easy to blend the Beolab 8000 into every interior type and style. The loudspeaker was designed by David Lewis, an award winning Danish designer and are also part of the permanent collection at the New York Museum of Modern Arts.So you''ll be buying art as well. I''ll admit to the fact that the purchase will financially drain you, but you''ll have a lot of pure listening and design enjoyment for the years to come.

Looks - Artistic, stylish and damn fine looking.

Weakness:

Sound quality, if you can call it that

After spending hours listening to the Klipsch and Energy speakers, I decided to pop into the B&O shop to take a listen to their "highly acclaimed" sound systems.

At first glance, they appeared simply amazing. When the cover door on the OuverTure opened up as I waved my hands in front of it, I stood in awe... WOW! I couldn't wait to take a listen to it.

Thats when the fun stopped. When the all-too-familiar Hotel California started playing through these speakers, not only was I disappointed, I was horrified. It sounded REALLY REALLY BAD.

The high-end was severely lacking. The horn-loaded Klipsch speakers had a breathtaking high-end which was both immersive and accurate sounding (maybe slightly bright).

Then the midrange seemed muddy. It was lacking detail and after a while, music became painful to listen to.

Then the bass.... OK what bass? The salesman told me that these could go down to 19Hz (which is bulls**t). It sounded to me like it hit around 60-70Hz and thats it. He tried to convice me that it was the CDs fault (yes all 5 that I tried) which did not have deep bass recorded onto the music tracks. Its amazing that the Cambridge speakers I've got on my computer are able to reproduce deep bass which is apparently not there. Then he tried to increase the bass eq setting, but all this did was to create a louder 70Hz thump during the drum beats. Whats even worst, this made the mids sound even worst. I suppose trying to reproduce 50Hz to about 6KHz using 2x 4" drivers isn't exactly the world's brightest idea.

The Klipsch, Energy and Boston speakers easily out-performed the B&O when it comes to sound quality. The worst thing is that the B&O cost helluva lot more. At $400 they would be nice, but not at $2000.

B&O are simply toys for rich people. I feel sorry for the people who fall for B&O's clever marketing (hey people pay $400 for a flat metal disc and a pole.. otherwise known as the floor stand for the BeoSound 9000.

Zero stars for value (damn no zero). 1 star for overall rating (they do look good).

Strength:

design,self contained amps,flat response,

Weakness:

no easy task to use with equipment other than B&O,

these speakers have a nice broad soundstage, very transparent, and have a very flat frequency response, midrange and highs very pleasant, low end drops off sharply at about 45hz with no distortion but bass is clean and tight.Bang&Olufsen is not usually associated with audiophile speakers, but have done their homework here not only do you get one the finest looking speakers ever but a great sounding one as well.Audition them with B&Os better stuff that way youll be sure to get a good demo. The price of 3000.00 a pair seems a little steep at first but remember if you were to purchase a high quality amp or two to set up a biamp configuration close to whats inside the 8000s it becomes a pretty good value.

Strength:

very clear and neutral sound, pure art of design, relatively small size...etc

Weakness:

bass could be stronger(if you don't have sub)

I don't know why people say that its sound is faking. By comparing 8000 to the other high-end stuff, I just noticed that the sound of 8000 is really clear and neutral. bad thing is - With some pops or techno, sometimes I feel sort of unharmonic...especailly when it compared to B&W. and bass. if you really like bass, then need sub. But, if you are not, then try to turn bass down as possible(deep base from 8000 is no good. It doesn't quite match to the sound). 8000 will make a lot better sound.

Well, try others like classic. I think this is really way to go. plz try and listen carefully at your home.

And visual...I'd never believed that when I listen to the music, visual doesn't matter at all...until I met this one. u know what I'm saying if you have one.
