Strength:

Got MINE at a great price!! Good tonal balance Reliable under sensible applications

Weakness:

Too sensitive to impractical music applications or crap systems (see above)...or is that really a weakness?!

You know, I wasn't going to write anything until I saw the negative reviews on this speaker. I purchased them from an Army buddy in Germany back in '88, when he decided to move on to the Bose Acoustimass series. I paid $200 for a pair of LIMITED EDITION Bose 6.2's (black w/grey grille)!! Although I already had a pair of B&W DM330i digital monitors, I was intrigued by the quality of sound. They have been with me ever since, and actually now serve as my center channel in my home theater!! To sum it up, these are not speakers for HARD ROCK (that's what KLIPSCH's or 901's are for) or HIP HOP (that's what Cerwin-Vega's are for), nor are they speakers that should be connected to crap systems (Technics, Sony, Pioneer, Fisher, Kenwood, JVC...you get the idea). They can produce clean music as needed, and have good tonal balance. I listen to a variety of music (mostly deep house, jazz and R&B), and never had a complaint. Additionally, they have performed well in their duties as the focal channel in home theater - they handle a gun battle in movies like HEAT or SWORDFISH like a champ!! OK - my system? I bought my 6.2s fourteen years ago when I was stationed in Germany. Imagine my surprise when I discovered that I had been listening to crap all those years! My relationship with these speakers outlasted my first marriage, will probably outlast my second one, and has seen my daughter from birth to junior high (she provided some custom art work on the cabinets back when she was three...all the more reason to hang on to them). Do they sound good? To me they do. Am I an audio hack? Probably...I am in the process of upgrading my system. I'm looking at a Nakamichi AV-8 Receiver (to replace an old Sansui integrated system...told you I was a hack), and you can bet the 6.2s will be an integral part of the new system.

Strength:

None

Weakness:

Basically a Bose 302 speaker in teakwood finish and high tech design

I purchased these back in late 80's when I was in the Military, and very naive in speakers. I believed the ads for bose and fell into the trap. After comparing with my friend's 301's, they are essentially the same cheap speaker. I now use the 6.2's for my computer speakers, but feel I paid way too much for the quality of build and sound.

I bought these speakers in my disillusioned early high school days. Now, six years later, I have finally upgraded to a pair of digital phase AP2's, used for $450. I finally had a chance to do an AB comparison between the Bose's and real speakers. It was really eye opening. The Bose has no upper treble (ie cymbals, etc). This is probably due to the large (3") tweeters. The bass was muddy and completely without definitino. A bass guitar, string bass, drum, it all sounded the same; just a muddled boom. Imaging was poor, and the speakers weren't transparent at all. Listening to Miles Davis's "Kind of Blue", I heard things I never heard before, like the sticks scratching the surface of the drums. The vocal range was poor. With the Digital Phase, Dinae Krall seemed like she was in the room with me. The Bose had no midrange presence whatsoever. My roommate has the 301's, and they have all the same problems as the 6.2's. For all the owners of Bose speakers out there, I can only hope that you realise your errors before it's too late. I gave them 2 stars because they can play quite loud, for their size, at the mid bass (50 hz) area, and some people dig that. Not I, though.
My system:
***** CD player (we won't talk about that here, but I just bought a an older Stan Warren modified unit)
Adcom GTP-400 pre (boring and lifeless...I remove it and drive the amp directly when I can)
Adcom gfa 545 II (boring and lifeless)
Digital Phase AP2 speakers
Transparent audio the link interconnects
MIT terminator speaker cables

I'm submitting this review to counter the poor review given by "A disturbed citizen." Either disturbed continued to buy every Bose product even after he decided they were crap or he's rating something that he doesn't really own. I'd advise him to stop posting falsified, biased reviews and to break out that dictionary he talked about and learn how to spell retarded, diturbed, revelation, and addict.

Thanks
Daniel

Strength:

Bose will warranty these or recone them if needed

Weakness:

High Distortion with any bass material, Cellos and bass guitars sound horrible.... cymbals sound like "pissh pissh pisshhh" instead of the "tsz tsz" that they should, the tv speaker 3 inch paper "tweeter" has a lot to do with this though. Wished Bose would use a silk dome or even a titanium dome tweeter instead.

Even though I put 1995 in the model date, I really purchased these in 1988. I have since put these speakers out in the hot tub/breakfast nook area for background music. I would not recommend these for serious listening, but they are worth something. After seeing what I could have purchased for the same or even less money, I was disappointed in Bose for pricing these higher than what they should cost. I blame myself though, for falling into the "Bose sounds better than any speaker at any price" marketing trap. If you purchased these new, I feel sorry but if you can get them used for about 50 bucks a set they are worth it, but dont' expect world beaters.

Switched to PSB 600i's and the difference is incredible, paid the same for the set as the Bose
