Strength:
Great speakers, heh heh heh heh heh HEH HEH HEH HA!!!!
Weakness:
The triple deaf test made me lose me eyebrows, but now I've got the best speakers in the world!!!! All the claims aboput the "double blind test" are a bunch of crap, I've devised a new system for bringing out the best in comparisons(especially bose),...heh heh heh. Its called the "Triple Deaf test"!!!!!!! He he... What yah gotta do is wrap 2 roles of duct tape around yer head, making sure to totally engulf yer ears..... then you blast the bose speakers and they'll sound incredible!!! Its especially effective if you have absolutely no idea what an excellent recording sounds like!!! If all you've ever heard are crappy shelf systems, than the triple deaf test is for yah sonny, heh heh heh heh....... |

Strength:
Excellent at doing what they are designed for. Great Stereo sound, it fills the room completly with sound, and sometimes feels live.
Weakness:
This speaker is meant to be played at louder volumes, to achieve the brilliant effect. Not the best choice in a 5.1 chanel set up (unless using the bose center channel) But bose's center sucks for loud theaters thus should be used with smaller front speakers) Excellent Stereo imaging, Bose has succeded in providing amazing stereo sound, its hard to tell if my center is on or where the sound is comming from. However it is cheap in construction (in one aspect) the front plastic tweeter grill can eazily be ripped off, and i would not be suprized if in another 5 years it started to rattle or interfere with vocals. |

It's jackasses like the last reviewer that ruin audioreview.com. People come here to try and learn something about what they might buy and don't get a fair review. Don't get down on Bose just because everyone else does. Let someone make an honest review. By the way I own no Bose equipment. |

Strength:
What can I say, there is NO better speaker for under $100,000. The dynamics and transient response rival only that of perhaps the Martin Logan statement. Did I mention? THE BEST SPEAKERS IN THE WORLD!!!
Weakness:
I measured the low freq. extension, it tapers off around 12Hz, I'd kind of like to see it go even deeper. I clocked the upper freq. dieing off at about 35kHz. These are REAL measurements!!! Trust me, the sergeant doesn't lie!!! Anywho, just leaps and bounds better than the dynaudio Contour 3.3s which they've replaced. I have many systems. I had chosen the higher models from B&W, dynaudio, and Dunlavy to provide me with different sonic signatures befitting of my mood at any given time. My bedroom is a place to relax... So I figured tube sound would be the way to go. After extensive listening, The best combination that provided both a laid back cool sound AND accuracy was the Dyanaudio Contour 3.3 paired with the Audio research VT200 amplifier. I also used the AR LS16 Tube Pre-amp and Mark Levinson No. 39 CD player. What a sound! Just like I'd predicted, laid back, yet stunningly accurate! I loved it, while it didn't have quite the low freq. depth of the Dunlavy SC-VIs I used to have, the lower octives where quite sufficient for my musical needs, very clean musical bass. Than one day I was over a friend's house for the 1st time. I went into his living room and to my astonishment sat a pair of Bose 701s! He had always told me about his "awesome system", but this was not quite what I'd been expecting... He had them hooked up to a pair of VTL TL-2.5 tube preamp and MB-750 amp... My first thought was "what a waste!" upwards of $20000 of equipment on a set of BOSE speakers!!! 350 watts per chan! But I kept a (somewhat) open mind. The first song he played through them was Pachelbels canon in D. AMAZING!!! So much more transparant than my dynaudios! And I could switch seats to anywhere in the room and *STEREO EVERYWHERE* would meet me there. It was like a dream come true! Then he (bob) decided to up the anti a little... He put in the newly remastered "Last of the Mohicans" soundtrack and spun tracks 1, 7, and 13... Again, amazing transparancy and *STEREO EVERYWHERE* really let me appreciate the subtle I nuances of the music. We measured the 701 freq. response from 12Hz-35kHz with a .1 Hz deviation. The 701s base was far cleaner than the dynaudios bass. Thats the best I've ever seen!!! don't know why on gods green earth I even bought those silly dynaudios?! At that moment I realized something... *IF YOU DON'T BUY SOMETHING WITH BOSE TECHNOLOGY YOUR NOT GETTING BOSE SOUND*. And now I certainly know what "Bose sound" is... The next day I gave the Dynaudios to my brother (sucker..) and bought Bose 701s from the bose site with my lofty credit card... I now have one of the finest systems in the entire world, *AND I OWE IT ALL TO BOSE, THANK YOU BOSE!!!*. Strength:
It depends on what amplifier you are using but I think it closely reproduces the natural sound you would look for at a concert. It has good highs and I find the bass response is low enough to appreciate the DVD's on the market with heavy action scenes.
Weakness:
The sensitivity of this set of speakers require more power to get the sounds out of them than my Cerwin Vega's. I listened to these speakers along side of other top line speakers and you can certainly find any number of speakers that will crank out the sound, but I prefered the more natural sound then the excessive bass and trebble of the other speakers. The 701's seemed to be just the pair that sounded like what you heard at the concert! Bose support is excellent too, and you will find this out when you compare them with other support groups from other manufacturers. Similar Products Used: Cerwin Vega |

Strength:
Clean Bass, Overall great sound quality, high SPL capabilities. Give them evrything you can and they ask for more.
Weakness:
None. I have had these speakers for 5 Years and have played every type of music and hundreds of DVDs through them. These speakers have seen countless hours of 100+db and still sound good as new. Low frequency responce is extraordinary, the mids are there, and the treble is more than acceptable. People try to disrespect the fact that Bose continues to use paper cones for their tweeters. The facts are that these drivers last longer and still offer satisfying sound. Similar Products Used: Nothing under $2000. |
