Strength:
Spacious sound.
Weakness:
Huge holes in the frequence response. What is left is muddy due to improper speaker sizes. The claim: These speakers sound like huge audio systems in a tiny cube. The reality: It is physically impossible! First of all, I bought these because I fell into Bose Marketing. I used them for 2 years before getting new speakers. So I know these first hand. First let me start off with some facts. This is actual test data from Sound and Vision Magizene: Frequency responses: Acoustimass Module: 46Hz to 202Hz at ±2.3 dB Cubes: 280 Hz to 13.3k Hz at ±10.5 dB Lets start with the Acoustimass Module. It is supposed to be able to be put anywhere because bass is non directional. Frequencies below 80hz are non-directional. The Acoustimass Module has to cover frequencies up to 200hz. The result is very directional bass. Then there is a big hole between 202hz and 280hz. That is sound that can never be heard. Unfortunatly this is where the baritone and tenor usually is. So much for listening to Placido Domingo. Then the cubes finally pick up. But due to their design they stop at 13.3khz, well below the 20khz of normal speakers. This is all due to their design. A 2.5" speaker is too big for a tweeter, but too small for a midrange. A 5.5" speaker is to small to be a subwoofer. So what are you left with? Not much. Then people talk about the speakers being made from paper. I won''t even get into this because I don''t think it is much of an issue when you can''t even hear half of what it is supposed to be producing. Then the price comes back into play. They cost about 4 times what they are worth. I have since upgraded to Paradigm speakers and finally see what I was missing. I spent $1200 and got so much more. Sales people were great, not pushy and very willing to answer any question I had without making me feel like I didn''t know what I was talking about. QUALITY, CLARITY, GUARRANTEE
Weakness:
Price at mass merchandisers Just bought the Acoustimass 10 series II before X-mas, driving them off a Denon 1602, and the sound quality is excellent. I was confused by all of the bashing by the "audiophiles" and thought I was missing something. The reality is that I don''t care what someone else enjoys bashing just to hear themselves bash. My response; get a life and let people buy what sounds best to them. For my needs, the Acoustimass 10''s gave me the best combination of Quality, clarity, style, and yes EASE of installation. Strength:
Size, Reflecting Sound, Powered Bass Module, Looks
Weakness:
I read that the bass module has trouble playing frequencies below 50hz. (this means that other subwoofers that can get below 50 to about 30, sound better for movies. This is a very good system if you know what your buying. the fact that this system, as with all of teh Bose line, reflects, separates it from all other speaker manufacturers. I have heard 400 watt speakers that are much louder but sacrifice clarity. Stay with the AM15 and away from teh AM10. the AM10 Bass module is TERRIBLE. I mean it has NO BASS. NONE. Teh AM15 sounds 2 to 3 times louder and deeper when it is blasting full strength. These speakers are also great because of the matched sound from the identical cubes. the system gets 5 stars because it fulfills my needs as well as many other "smart" buyers. Once again, know your musical needs before you buy this system or any other system. Bose may not be for everybody, Similar Products Used: AM10 |

Strength:
Small size and sound.
Weakness:
All the speaker wires run into and out of the bass unit. A separate powered bass unit would be preferred. A home audio system is as good as its other components and the size of the room. I have mated the Bose AM10 Series II speakers ($760 on-line) with a Onkyo TX-DS 575 receiver ($400 on-line). This affordable combination produces excellent bass and treble response in a room approximately 14' X 15'. I am quite pleased with my Bose speakers and the other components. |
