Casual Listener
Strength:
Ultra smooth mids and highs -compare to Infinity.
Weakness:
Pricey. I auditioned these right next to the ENERGY e:XL (rated at $700). Also Auditioned Infinity Entra towers at $800. My goal: to find the purest sound at high and mid range levels. To tackle this, the sales man used a THX-Ultra Denon to demanstrate with a Denon DVD-player. Result: first fired off the Engery e:XL tower ($700) at 1/3 of the Denon''s volume dial. Remember, the mid range and high''s are the GOAL. 1) The Energy''s mid-range will get harsh at this particular level on the DENON listening to MEET JOE BLACK soundtrack CD. 2) Fired off the Boston VR-950''s. Mid and tweeter stayed CENTERed and focused. Absolutely relaxed with not harshness of mids (as found on Energy e:XL tower). 3) Fired off the Infinity ENTRA. Mid and tweeter also stayed butterly smooth. SO it will be YOUR goal to choose between the INFINITY ENTRA and this BOSTON VR-959 tower -as both are same price range. LET your ears guide you, not the ideas of the reviews. Similar Products Used: Energy, Infinity, POlk, Klipsh (for the in-your-face sound dude only). |

Strength:
Extremely flat, tight bass, clear mids, and musically uncolored, fantastic sound reproduction
Weakness:
None at all Best speakers for the money, anywhere - period. Earlier reports seem to suggest that the Boston''s are lacking in bass, cheap construction etc. I think the problem is not with the speakers but with the listener''s ears and/or the audio source or perhaps both. These loudspeakers, while not delivering boomy bass as others may prefer, deliver outstanding sound, rich solid deep bass for their size and price. I have owned Polk''s and while they are mediocre at best, they don''t even begin to compare to the Boston''s for overall sound reproduction. In fact they''re not even in the same league. if you''re looking for a circuit city speaker, buy the Polks. (I know, I bought a pair last year and returned them after a couple weeks of home trial - sorry) But if you are looking for a high end loudspeaker with excellant resonse, tight bass that you can feel in your chest (given a quality high end source), flat midrange and crisp clear highs, shell out the 600 bucks and get the Boston 950s. You won''t be sorry. Similar Products Used: POLK, JBL, AR, JAMO, BOSE |

great speakers. I have them paired with the VR12 center and dipolar surounds from Boston. Need sub as bass is missing slightly from the 950's. response is super! |

Strength:
Full range response, efficiency
Weakness:
None noted These are tremendous speakers. I use them as the mains in a 5.1 Home Theater set-up. Highs are crisp and easy on the ears, even at loud volumn. Bass is accurate and full. I do use a BA VR-500 Subwoofer as well for that extra punch. I can't recommend these highly enough. Similar Products Used: Boston Acoustic VR-940 |

Strength:
Excellent highs!!! Crisp with a capital "C"!!!
Weakness:
Weak low bass end I actually selected these as the result of a "blind A-B test". I asked the salesmen to take me into the $1000/pair speaker room. I figured I didn't want to judge the speaker on what I saw, but rather what I heard, the way it should be!!! My priority for sound quality: an extended, super-crisp high end with a smooth midrange. I selected these out of 6 different pairs for their superb high end combined with a smooth midrange. I used to own a pair of Klipsch Forte II's, & at the time I thought they were the ultimate in high frequency extension but after comparing the two I realized it only APPEARED that way because Klipsch speakers I've found have too much midrange. Wouldn't part with these for the world, escpecially after I found out they were rated #1 for sonic accuracy in Consumer Reports!!! A little shy on the low bass end, but I 'll maybe upgrade to the 970's someday!!!! Similar Products Used: JBL Towers, Klipsch Forte II, Polk Audios |

Strength:
Sound soooooo clear for home theater setup or any type of audio music with less bass.
Weakness:
needed some more bass for my bass music The BEST of the BEST.. If you are into a home theater speakers system and classical music lover or any music with less bass. I'll say this is the speaker you would want to give it a try before you buy any other speaker. I had test the Boston VR950 VS Polk Audio RT600i, Energy eXL series, KLH and Klips (forgot the model Number) for soooo many times with the price I paid for about $700. BOSTON kick ass of all.. Polk Audio, KLH and Klips too much bass and not that clarity and Energy its good but the price way too high compare to Boston. Never the less I knew from the beginning Boston didn't give out lots of bass like the other' but HEY the key point is clarity to your ears and there is an option of buying a SUB-Woofer to add on so. BOSTON in my Number 1 choice Similar Products Used: polk audio SUB, Sony GX800ES receiver, Boston VR10 center Channel and 2 Boston rear. Sony DVPS560D DVD |

Strength:
Wide range of capabilities via music of all kinds and movies.
Weakness:
No extra ordinary when it comes to just music. It is on the high end, but is more of an all around speaker vs a specific speaker. Very good, but would look longer before purchasing. Satisfied with speakers, but would like better movie sound and better music sound. Not sure though wether there is a better all around speaker that can do both movies and music. |

Strength:
Can play very loud
Weakness:
midrange These little guys are great! They can rock the house down when powered properly. They can seem a bit nasal at low volumes and the bass doesn't appear until it's loud.
