Strength:
ALL - power handling ability, match to other BA speakers, range, clarity, GREAT imaging
Weakness:
Tippy, sub gain control I've been looking for these for 2 years now. I got lucky and purchased these for $148 a piece "open box" from Tweeter. Fortunately, in addition to the 5 year BA warranty, I bought the 10 year Tweeter extended guarantee. Good thing, because when I got them home I found one sub with a hole in it, and both with bad amps. Off to BA they went to get sonic tested and brand spanking new speakers and amps installed! A hassle, but not bad for under $300 a pair eh? Anyway, these things plain ROCK. Unbelievable range, and the bass is tremendous. I'm now thinking about replacing my Sony STRDE915 in order to take advantage of these speakers. Even at high volumes they are very clean and the bass tight. When matched to a VR12 center channel they are simply unbelievable. I used the "Video Essentials" DVD to adjust the sub and center levels for the new setup, and left-to-right panning is just seamless. I have a pair of KEF Coda 7 for surrounds, and they stick out like a sore thumb. Time to replace with some VRS Pros as I couldn't be happier with the BA Lynfield VR series. If you find them, buy them up, you won't regret it. |

Strength:
Clean clear sound, Built in sub, Small footprint. Very nice sound stage.
Weakness:
Makes you hear poor recordings as they were recorded, But the better the source the more they shine :-) Given my budget for audio, I picked the pair up on close out @ Sound Advice (in florida only) for $600.00 + VR-14 center for $225.00 & am very pleased with the sound for both Music & HT 35/60. I am hearing more details from my CD's & DVD movies than I used to. I have also disconnected my powered sub, these speakers deliver plenty of bass in my 12 x 14 room. Can not wait to replace my Muddy sounding `ol SONY DD ready reciver/decoder with the new Outlaw 1050/750 combo. Sould bring out even more detail from these speakers. At this price, value is +5. These were the "lower end" speakers where I bought them, So I did not try to compare them side by side with speakers costing 2k to 5K ea. But the sound for me is a +5 so far! An awesome pair of speakers. The tweeter is incredibly good at high frequency. The midbass is also very good. The 100 watts powered sub built in are tight and deep bass. YOu guys gotta listen to it to be believed. I replaced all my garbage Cambridge Soundworks speakers with all Boston Acoustic. |

Strength:
Unbelievable sound across the entire range of frequency as well as volume.
Weakness:
Red LED (why can't manufacturers come up with a more subdued light source) and Sub woofer controls in the back. Their is no adjective strong enough to describe how incredible these speakers are. The $2000 that I paid got me a set of VR970 Lynnfields, One VR-12 center, and a pair of VRS-pro's for the surrounds. Hooked up to my Dennon system (Reciever and CD) connected with MONSTER, this combination cannot be beat. I agree with one of the other reviews in saying that "it's like listening to my music over again". You hear more of the music, with such a dynamic range it's like the music is right there in your living room. These speakers make all music sound great from Symphony to Metallica to Britney Spears to my favorites; Rush, Collective Soul, Boston. These speakers play my beloved Jazz better than most twice their collective price. They look Great and sound AMAZING. I recently upgraded my home theatre system to the Lynnfield System from Boston Acoustics. The setup is a pair of VR-970 mains, CR-12 center and VRS Pro surrounds. This review is focused on the VR-970 mains as both an audio and a home theatre speaker. |

I just set these speakers up yesterday and i have to say so far they sound great. I do however have a small decision to make. I just purchased a 150 watt powered sub a week and a half ago, these speakers do have a powered sub in them. the salesman at the store told me to keep the sub for 5.1 sound. but i'm not sure if i really need it. these speakers produce great imaging, with vocals that seem to almost go right through you. the highs are incredible, not too tinny but realistic and clear. A WORD OF CAUTION, BE CAREFUL WHEN SETTING THESE SPEAKERS UP ON CARPET, YOU CAN'T SEE THE FLOOR UNDERNEATH THEM TO DETERMINE IF THE FLOOR IS ACTUALLY LEVEL. I MADE THE MISTAKE OF TAKING BOTH OUT OF THE BOX AT THE SAME TIME, ONE WAS STANDING UP-RIGHT WHILE I WAS SITTING INDIAN STYLE ON THE FLOOR PUTTING THE LEG ON THE OTHER SPEAKER. THE SPEAKER STANDING TIPPED OVER AND FORTUNATELY, LANDED RIGHT ON MY KNEE (OUCH!) NO DAMAGE, TO THE SPEAKER ANYWAY, BUT MY KNEE IS KILLING ME. I PLAN TO TRY TO CONTACT BA TO SEE IF THEY SELL ANY ADDITIONAL SUPPORTS AS I HAVE A CAT WHO LOVES TO BE UP ON HIGH PLACES. Overall these speakers sound unbieliveable. I also purchased the VR12, what a monster. I have read that this speaker is a powere hog, but i have had no indications that my amp can't push it averall, the sound of the center is much more realistic than other brands. |

Strength:
IFOUND THAT THE BOSTON 970'S STRONGEST POINTS WERE THE WARM ROOM FILLING SOUND. I FEEL LIKE THE MIDS AND HIGHS WERE JUST THE RIGHT COMBINATION, AND THE SOUNDSTAGE IS ONE OF THE MOST IMPRESSIVE THAT I HAVE LISTENED TO.
Weakness:
THERE REALLY WASNT ANY QUALITY, OR SOUND WEAKNESSES, BUT FOR ME THE BLACK SHINY LOOK THAT THE TOP PIECE HAS JUST DOESNT DO IT FOR THE NON RETRO DECOR. I THINK THAT THE BOTTOM LINE FOR ME IS THAT THE B.A VR-970S ARE AN OUTSTANDING BUY. IM VERY HAPPY WITH THE DICISION THAT I MADE. THE COMPETION WAS STIFF, BUT IN THE END, THE OBVIOUS IS THIS PAIR OF BAD BOYS. YOU WONT BE DISAPPOINTED. |

Strength:
nice mid ranges and the subs produce strong clean not boomy bass
Weakness:
had a hum in the right sub the sub will not turn off because of this hum I picked these speakers about two months ago at a local audio dealer for only $900. I couldn’t believe how these speakers sound. I love the sleek looks of these and the clean sound. The subs go down to 25Hz of deep clean bass. It even has a 12" passive radiator. I also purchased the vr10 with the 970s and I am very pleased with it. I have been more than satisfied with every thing that I have bought of Boston acoustics. I got a great deal on a wonderful pair of speakers. I would highly recommend these speakers for any one that is interested in a great pair of floor standing speakers. I just want to clarify the comments I made at previous post. I said " I replaced all my garbage Cambridge Soundworks speaker with Boston acoustic". Actually I really like the CenterStage(center speaker) and the surround 5.1(rear) of Cambridge soundworks. They are excellent. The only reason I replaced the CenterStage with the Boston Acoustic VR-12 because I didn't like the tower front speakers of CSworks line so since I bought the VR-970, I had to buy the VR-12 to obtain timbre-match. I still keep the Cambridge Soundworks Surround 5.1. They are unbievable surround pair. What I mean garbage is the Front tower pair of CSWorks. They don't sound good and they cost a lot. |
